Speed Touch requires special driver to do AAL5 encapsulation and to download SpeedTouch firmware. However, until Alcatel releases specifications and firmware under some usable licence, writing such driver is impossible. There are promises, that after completeing Linux driver (http://kapu.name.daemon.xs4all.be:8080/Projects/), these will made avalible. Since the 3200S is listed as supported, it follows that there must be support for it, right? Actually, the DPT cards aren't "real" I2O cards at all. They just use the I2O interface as a transport for their own I/O protocol. The 'asr' driver supports these cards (and is maintained directly by Adaptec). -- ... every activity meets with opposition, everyone who acts has his rivals and unfortunately opponents also. I'm trying to get the onboard ethernet working. Evidently the SiS630E chipset includes a variant of the SiS 900 network hardware. The kernel recognizes the network device thusly: sis0: port 0xd400-0xd4ff mem 0xeb800000-0xeb800fff irq 10 at device 1.1 on pci0 sis0: Ethernet address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 So, the driver loads, but the MAC address isn't set correctly. On the SiS site they have an updated ('beta') version of the Linux SiS 900 driver that's supposed to handle the SiS630E chipset. Comparing the updated driver with the original Linux driver and the new FreeBSD driver, I discovered that there is a change in the way the ethernet address is stored between the old SiS 900 NIC and the newer SiS630 series chipsets. On the SiS 900 the MAC address was stored in the EEPROM. On the SiS630 the MAC address is stored in the "APC CMOS RAM", whatever that is. Evidently the trick to getting the MAC address is to set some flag in the SiS PCI/ISA bridge, then do some mysterious jigger-ing with inb and outb. I don't know much about kernel hacking, you understand. So my questions are: 1) What is the FreeBSD equivalent of the Linux pci_find_device() function? -- ie get a pci device address from the vendor and product IDs 2) Is use of inb and outb basically the same as in Linux? 3) What the heck is the Linux code doing? Also there seem to be some other 630E specific code sections in the Linux driver, to handle "bugs on default value of PHY registers" and the "630E equalizer workaroung rule". Are these important, I wonder? The updated 630E Linux driver is available for download on this page: http://www.sis.com.tw/support/download/linux.htm#linuxlan Oliver To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Wed Nov 22 1:18:41 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from ipamzlx.physik.uni-mainz.de (ipamzlx.Physik.Uni-Mainz.DE [134.93.180.54]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E1AB237B479; Wed, 22 Nov 2000 01:18:34 -0800 (PST) Received: from ipamzlx.Physik.Uni-Mainz.DE (ipamzlx.Physik.Uni-Mainz.DE [134.93.180.54]) by ipamzlx.physik.uni-mainz.de (8.11.1/8.11.0) with ESMTP id eAM9KMc08315; Wed, 22 Nov 2000 10:20:22 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from ohartman@ipamzlx.physik.uni-mainz.de) Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 10:20:22 +0100 (CET) From: "O. Thanks for this; to the best of my knowledge the only chip issue with the EXR 2000 (actually, affecting their entire current range) was a thermal tolerance issue with the Qlogic isp12160, which was meant to have been resolved around March or so. Now that I know what you're referring to, I can go research it some more. > Well, this is for Germany, maybe not for the U.S.! > > Hope this is enough to make a "whole story" :-)) Yup, helps a lot. > Well, my thoughts are now: when the statement of "redesigns" are > facts, how will FreeBSD come along with this or is there a so > called unified access model? Maybe a silly question of someone > who knows nothing about writing driver facilities ... but simply a > thought. Mylex have been pretty consistent across their range; the current products are the first to fundamentally break the access model, and they've documented it quite well, so I had no real trouble with the driver. That is, their controllers up to and including the EXR1100 use the same basic protocol that they were using 10 years ago. The recent change should help them move to unify firmware between their embedded and SCSI RAID products. -- ... every activity meets with opposition, everyone who acts has his rivals and unfortunately opponents also. SCSI changers are generally supported. I don't know if they mechanism supports the standard, but I've used these on systems without changer support. You can do this by putting it in a mode where it goes to the next tape on offline. I believe amanda can use them this way in gravity changer mode. On solaris there's a -o option to ufsdump which will cause the tape to advance after the dump by sending an offline. -- Brooks -- Any statement of the form "X is the one, true Y" is FALSE. I try to boot from my floppy A drive, but it takes a long time (about 4 minutes) before it REALLY start boot from the A drive. and then fdisk takes a long while to load into the memory for the first time. Even thought I have run and partitioned my 30G IBM into the C: drive, when I reboot my pc, it also repeat the problem, and the partition and C: drive disapear. Consequently, I can't get my Hard drive partition. I could hear the initial reading A drive when it try to boot from it, but after reading for a while, it goes silent for about 4 minutes before it really start booting. The board is a EPOX motherboard (DP-BX7+), and there is IBM 30G HD , a pc133 128M RAM, a pc100 128 RAM, I WILL scsi card, a LAN card, Nvida TNT2 graphic card on board. During boot, it recognised my IBM HD as a 30G hard drive. I set the boot sequence as A,C, SCSI. So it is trying to boot from my A floppy drive first, because I want to re-partition my IBM 30G HD. The floppy disk is a bootable DOS disk which is formatted from another Window 98 operating system. Your helps is greatly apprecated. Sam. Is this an external device? I'm not sure what you mean by the SCSI bus configuration. If you are talking about the way the devices are connected to the bus then the tape device is the only SCSI device. It is external and it is terminated. The internal connectors on the SCSI card are not connected to anything, but I don't think that the need to be terminated. If you are talking about the kernel configuration then I began by including the following lines: device ahc #Adaptec 2940 device scbus #base SCSI code device sa #SCSI tapes When that didn't work I added the following lines: device da #SCSI direct access (disks) device cd #SCSI CD-ROMs device pass #CAM passthrough driver The only other line that may have an effect is: device ch #SCSI media changers I will try adding this when I get the chance to reboot the machine. I read something about the CHANGER_MIN_BUSY_SECONDS and CHANGER_MAX_BUSY_SECONDS options which said that they should be set to 100 and 500 for tapes (default = 2 and 10). I changed the values using sysctl but it didn't have any effect. Are there any other kernel options that I should look at? I have been playing with this problem for two days and haven't gotten anywhere. Please help. I'd love to be able to format floppies on my LS-120 drive. Looking at the code, it seems like it'd be a pretty simple addition (command 0x4, just like on a SCSI drive), but I wanted to throw the idea out and find out if there were any gotchas to this. -lee -- +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Lee Cremeans -- Manassas, VA, USA (WakkyMouse on WTnet) | | lcremeans@erols.com | http://wakky.dyndns.org/~lee | To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Sat Nov 25 9:16:43 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from hotmail.com (f214.pav1.hotmail.com [64.4.31.214]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E922B37B4C5 for ; Sat, 25 Nov 2000 09:16:41 -0800 (PST) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Sat, 25 Nov 2000 09:16:41 -0800 Received: from 65.24.144.148 by pv1fd.pav1.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Sat, 25 Nov 2000 17:16:41 GMT X-Originating-IP: [65.24.144.148] From: "James E. I am have two laptops that are the same Toshiba 4025CDT's one with FreeBSD 5.0 the other with FreeBSD 4.0 neither one picks up this card. The card shows up in visual config mode(on boot up) as irq 11(unassigned, which I assign). I compiled a Kernel to match this setting and I get "ed0: device not configured" on boot up. How can I get this card to work? Are there any drivers for this card? _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. Thats because the 3c575 doesn't have anything to do with the 'ed' driver. > How can I get this card to work? Are there any drivers for this card? Since this is a cardbus card you'll need to look at -CURRENT, which has something like cardbus support. I suspect that the 'xl' driver may support this card in -CURRENT as well. If it doesn't you may have to figure out what bits to add to allow the driver to work with it. -- | Matthew N.
