Replying to my own post is probably justified when I've been talking rubbish :) I just set the runtime to use rmiregistry and everything works. So it's defintely a cockup in my Lookup/discovery/multicast setup. Which is annoying, but I was more keen to play with JavaSpaces than Jini so I'd class that a 'fix'. Thanks for the tips. -- Why is the alphabet in that order? Is it because of that song? It was improved a lot some time ago and now HotSpot starts, but doesn't work for too long. I believe you can even use it as long as you don't do *something* with threads. Anyway, for now the only thing you can do is edit jvm.cfg and switch to -classic. > I seem to be having no end of problems getting the Linux JDK 1.3.0 working > with Tomcat. This is my opinion, of course. > > Not necessarily, since an assembly program could be used by the Linux > folks if they wished to create a Alpha binary. > > Any work the *BSD group did towards an Alpha port would not go to waste, > IMO. In addition, we could release source code patches and instructions which would allow people to get a JDK going on FreeBSD/alpha. Not as good as a binary release, but still very useful IMO. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Mobile: 0419 868 494 Information Technology Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Thu Apr 26 11:50:39 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from meow.osd.bsdi.com (meow.osd.bsdi.com [204.216.28.88]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 75B5A37B43C; Thu, 26 Apr 2001 11:50:35 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jhb@FreeBSD.org) Received: from laptop.baldwin.cx (john@jhb-laptop.osd.bsdi.com [204.216.28.241]) by meow.osd.bsdi.com (8.11.2/8.11.2) with ESMTP id f3QInvG50065; Thu, 26 Apr 2001 11:49:57 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jhb@FreeBSD.org) Message-ID: X-Mailer: XFMail 1.4.0 on FreeBSD X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <20010426153822.A22802@misty.eyesbeyond.com> Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 11:49:15 -0700 (PDT) From: John Baldwin To: Greg Lewis Subject: Re: java for FreeBSD/alpha Cc: java@FreeBSD.org, nate@FreeBSD.org, Uncle George , Maxim Sobolev , Nate Williams Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On 26-Apr-01 Greg Lewis wrote: > On Tue, Apr 17, 2001 at 09:26:57AM -0600, Nate Williams wrote: >> > > whats going on with the alpha port of the Sun/JDK stuff ? >> > > is there a port/effort? >> >> There is hardware in place to do the port, but so far no one has stepped >> up to the plate to do it. > > Biggest problem at the moment is the pieces of assembler that need > writing. Does anyone even know where there is some documentation on > alpha assembler? The Alpha Architecture Reference Manual is some help, but there is also a calling standard referened in /sys/alpha/include/asm.h, and that header is helpful to read as well. You might want to bug people on the alpha list to find those who already have alpha asm skill as well. I have some, but there are others on that list who have much more. -- John Baldwin -- http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ PGP Key: http://www.baldwin.cx/~john/pgpkey.asc "Power Users Use the Power to Serve!" - http://www.FreeBSD.org/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Fri Apr 27 14:35:19 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from gnuppy.monkey.org (cx739861-a.dt1.sdca.home.com [24.5.164.61]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AC5D637B42C for ; Fri, 27 Apr 2001 14:35:17 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from billh@gnuppy.monkey.org) Received: from billh by gnuppy.monkey.org with local (Exim 3.22 #1 (Debian)) id 14tFtT-00012S-00; Fri, 27 Apr 2001 14:35:15 -0700 To: java@freebsd.org Subject: JavaONE anybody ?
