Well, here in Patras Greece, things are more or less like this: In the Univerity, you can find `jobs' that are mostly related to Solaris, HP/UX and AIX, as most departments hardly ever have a taste for Linux or one of the BSDs'. But jobs in educational departments are not well paying, and proffesional consulting is still a kraft rarely used. The web hosting companies are using mostly Linux, although some do consider switching over to BSD; FreeBSD being the BSD of choise, in those cases. A few others have based their content serving infrastructure on Windows (usually the NT, or 2000 breed of them, running IIS/MS-SQL), some of these switching to Linux with Apache/MySQL soon after. The workstations in most IT shops are Windows -- mostly Windows 98, with 95 still alive in some places, or (although much less often) Windows NT (the workstation edition). Greece is, unfortunately, still a place where Windows dominates the workstation market. On the other hand, I know of a lot of companies that are using some free Unix on their servers, even some telecomm companies that extensively use Linux or Solaris for their testing and development boxes. FreeBSD is still a niche market here, but it's ever growing. -giorgos To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-jobs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-jobs Wed Jul 11 15:18:34 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-jobs@freebsd.org Received: from lorax.neutraldomain.org (lorax.neutraldomain.org [64.81.248.141]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A956037B405 for ; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 15:18:26 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from icognito@neutraldomain.org) Received: by lorax.neutraldomain.org (Postfix, from userid 1001) id C4E09CE8B; Wed, 11 Jul 2001 15:21:03 -0700 (PDT) Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 15:21:03 -0700 From: Gabriel Rocha To: jobs@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Looking for an Unix Admin or Security position Message-ID: <20010711152103.B73543@neutraldomain.org> Mail-Followup-To: jobs@FreeBSD.ORG Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5i Sender: owner-freebsd-jobs@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi, I am looking for either a Unix Admin or Security position. Michael, Here in the SF Bay area, the market is pretty terrible. I am looking for a job, and I have several friends in system=20 adminstration and network administration who have been looking for quite a while without finding anything. There are very few places still hiring compared to last year or the year before.=20 Contract work is basically nonexistent, as far as I can tell. But, if any of you reading this are hiring, well, read on! =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Experienced FreeBSD systems administrator seeks full or part-time employment in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, US. I am available for permanent or contract work of any duration. I am currently a W-2 contract employee, so you will not have to deal with any taxes, provide any benefits, or deal with massive amounts of government paperwork, unless you want to. Depending upon the nature of the work, I am open to telecommuting and/or will travel to your workplace in the Bay Area. San Francisco and East Bay locations are preferred, as I live in Berkeley. I am skilled in procurement, construction, configuration and management of high-density rackmount Internet platforms, and have experience working with broadband ISPs, dot-coms, financial companies, and more. I have built the entire technology infrastructure for a small financial service provider, and have worked as part of a team to keep a rapidly expanding production network under control. I enjoy working solo, as part of a group, or as leader of a small team. My r=E9sum=E9 is available in both HTML and ASCII from my website: http://www.zer0.org/~gsutter/resume/ http://www.zer0.org/~gsutter/resume/resume.txt Please contact me if interested.
