(YES it is an ISA PnP card, I doublechecked !) I have read the handbooks, FAQ's, searched the BSD Usenet News searcher, searched current usenet postings, but I just cannot get a grip on the EXACT configuration I need to put in the kernel. I followed the instructions in Helmuth Michaelis's "Care and feeding of ISDN4BSD", so the ISDN part in my kernel configuration looks like this: device isic0 options DYNALINK pseudo-device "i4bq921" pseudo-device "i4bq931" pseudo-device "i4b" pseudo-device "i4btrc" 4 pseudo-device "i4bctl" pseudo-device "i4brbch" 4 pseudo-device "i4btel" 4 pseudo-device "i4bipr" 4 pseudo-device "i4bisppp" 4 options IPR_VJ options IPR_LOG=5 Now, I have noticed upon booting that the first message about ISDN that is listed is something like this: "Cards: Dynalink unknown, can't assign resources". After that, I DO get the messages confirming the attaching of i4b, i4bisppp, i4bctl etcetera,just like the manual says. I figured that the problem must be within the first two lines, so I have been trying various combinations of them, until now without result. But, as the system is an older Intel box, it takes ages to compile a kernel and try something new, so I hope that someone can point me to the right solution ! Do I need to use ISIC or IWIC ? And then what ? And must "DYNALINK" be supplied as an option, and if so, with or without quotes ? Please help me out here, I am driving myself crazy :-) Best Regards, Arvid Elstrodt arvid@elstrodt.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Mon May 27 3: 0:42 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from mailout03.sul.t-online.com (mailout03.sul.t-online.com [194.25.134.81]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F37A237B406 for ; Mon, 27 May 2002 03:00:34 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fwd04.sul.t-online.de by mailout03.sul.t-online.com with smtp id 17CHIm-0007LL-04; Mon, 27 May 2002 12:00:32 +0200 Received: from peedub.jennejohn.org (520017439985-0001@[217.235.124.247]) by fmrl04.sul.t-online.com with esmtp id 17CHIX-02uwBEC; Mon, 27 May 2002 12:00:17 +0200 Received: from peedub.jennejohn.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by peedub.jennejohn.org (8.12.3/8.11.6) with ESMTP id g4R9xoNw066535; Mon, 27 May 2002 11:59:51 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from garyj@peedub.jennejohn.org) Message-Id: <200205270959.g4R9xoNw066535@peedub.jennejohn.org> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.5 07/13/2001 with nmh-1.0.3 To: "Arvid Elstrodt" Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: FreeBSD 4.6 RC2, Dynalink IS64PH ISA PnP card: "Can't assign resources" ?? It will apparently be sold under the same model name. Maybe you have on of the new models ? What numbers do the chips on the card have ? In fact the card is quite "old": I bought it in 1995 / 1996 or so .... I opened the box again this morning (I actually have taken a day off from work to get this working !) to investigate the card, serials, and chipset. Here is what is on several stickers and directly on the card: DYNIS64PH+ DYNALINK IS64PH+ ISDN IS64PH P/N 910524126 TA200S100092475 714909000048 CE0499X The two biggest chips on the card are both from Siemens, and they read: SIEMENS PSB 21525 N HSCX TE V2.1 GERMANY 748 SIEMENS PSP 2186N V1.1 ISAC-S TE GERMANY 9750L I have read through LINT and found that I *should* use following two lines in the kernel config: options DYNALINK device iwic I have just tried this, but I get the same result: the card is not recognized :-( The manpages for isic give two more options (based on your suggestions): for FreeBSD: options ASUSCOM_IPAC device isic0 for NetBSD: options DYNALINK device isic* at isapnp? By the way, both entries for "options" were written between double quotes, but I have understood that the actual enry should be made without the quotes, correct ? I am going to try the above two options, we'll see .... I really hope someone can help me, atleast with the routing problem... greets Mark Bergman [M Bergman] -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG]Namens M Bergman Verzonden: woensdag 29 mei 2002 15:49 Aan: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Onderwerp: Howto connect to the internet. (I'm building a isdn router an need some help) Hi all, I'm building a isdnrouter so my internal network will have internetaccess. I've succesfully compiled my Dynalink into my kernel. But how to continue.. i've attachted 6 files[M Bergman] (the list won't take attatchments thats why i copy pasted them at the end of the message. and i'll put them online in a zip file ! http://test.digipoint.org/files/isdnconfig.zip /etc/ppp/ppp.conf /etc/rc.conf /etc/isdn/isdnd.rc dmesg output. isdn-up = the command i use to dial in by hand isdn-down = the command i use to disconnect by hand the situation i want to create: i've got a p120 FreeBSD box who connects to the internet when a computer on the pc tries to get a internet connection (dial on demand). when there is no data going out for 15 minutes i wan't the connection to be removed (Idle timeout). i also wanna have a command to dial in (so i can set cronjobs that dial in and get a cvsup) The problem i've got now: i can dialin (only by hand), that means the line is busy when i pick up another phone. i can't ping, nor ip adresses nor dnsnames. the ip you find in ppp.conf is a dnsserver of my isp, i don't have a static ip.. can you guys help me 1. getting my routing ok so i can really use the internet 2. set my config files the right wat for "dial on demand" and "idle timeout" Thanks already for looking at my files. Onderwerp: Howto connect to the = internet.=20 (I'm building a isdn router an need some = help)

Hi all,

I'm=20 building a isdnrouter so my internal network will have=20 internetaccess.

I've=20 succesfully compiled my Dynalink into my kernel.

But how to continue.. i've attachted 6 = files[M Bergman]  (the list won't take = attatchments=20 thats why i copy pasted them at the end of the message. and i'll = put them=20 online in a zip file !
http://test.digipoint.org/files/isdnconfig.zip

/etc/ppp/ppp.conf
/etc/rc.conf
/etc/isdn/isdnd.rc
dmesg=20 output.

isdn-up =3D the command i use to dial in = by=20 hand
isdn-down =3D the command i use to disconnect = by=20 hand

the=20 situation i want to create:
i've=20 got a p120 FreeBSD box who connects to the internet when a computer on = the pc=20 tries to get a internet connection (dial on demand). =
when=20 there is no data going out for 15 minutes i wan't the connection to be = removed=20 (Idle timeout).
i also=20 wanna have a command to dial in (so i can set cronjobs that dial in and = get a=20 cvsup)

The=20 problem i've got now:
i can=20 dialin (only by hand), that means the line is busy when i pick up = another=20 phone.
i=20 can't ping, nor ip adresses nor dnsnames.

the ip=20 you find in ppp.conf is a dnsserver of my isp, i don't have a = static=20 ip..

can=20 you guys help me

1.=20 getting my routing ok so i can really use the = internet
2. set=20 my config files the right wat for  "dial on demand"  and "idle = timeout"

Thanks already for looking at my = files.
