You actually need devel/gettext-old. The last time I saw this error messages, less than a week ago, I deinstalled gettext-1.11..., and installed from devel/gettext-old , that allows me to continue building jdk13. After installing jdk13, you can go back and deinstall gettext-old, and install the latest gettext again. Thats what I did. Hotspot is not available at this time, but if you'll search the mailing list for a status report by Bill Huey, you'll see that it's not too far off either. I do all my development with linux-jdk1.3.1 and while it's not burning rubber it is performing adequately. Any bad performance problems we have stem from us writing bad SQL. The various JITs seem to work with JDK 1.3.1p6. Please experiment which one gives you the most performance increase for your particular application. Each JIT has its strenghts and weaknesses. If you have any problems running a JIT with 1.3.1p6 please post your findings on this list and I'm sure people will jump in to help you out. Not that I'm an expert, but I run a lot of webapplications on Enhydra and uses Director (something like mod_webapp), and if I serve my static content (*.gif, *.jpg and so on) through Director (mod_webapp) performance is super slow. You should probably serve that content via Apache directly, if you don't do that already. -- Med venlig hilsen/Best regards, Sĝren Neigaard mailto:neigaard@e-box.dk To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Mon Apr 15 13:36: 7 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from intranet.x-itec.net (pD904911D.dip.t-dialin.net [217.4.145.29]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CF6B437B400; Mon, 15 Apr 2002 13:36:03 -0700 (PDT) Received: from winserver ([192.168.0.1] helo=master) by intranet.x-itec.net with esmtp (Exim 4.01) id 16xCEN-0000Wu-00; Mon, 15 Apr 2002 21:33:39 +0200 Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 22:35:49 +0200 From: =?ISO-8859-1?B?Qm9yaXMgS/ZzdGVy?= X-Mailer: The Bat! The behaviour of your port will not change. The behaviour of some other ports will change, though. More specifically: The ports that define USE_JAVA but do not use ${JAVAC} will not depend on Jikes anymore, even if bsd.java.mk previously determined that Jikes should be used if a Java compiler was necessary. The problem is that bsd.java.mk currently sets Jikes as a dependency for any port that has USE_JAVA defined and Jikes installed on their system... Hope this is clear. If it's not, then it's my fault. If it's not, then it's my fault. I'm tired ||-) Don't worry. It's my fault: "He who asks the right question, gets the right answer." I was wondering: 1) I use javac in one port which is a fact 2) I do not need any special functionality from jikes Therefore, I need javac installed but rather not depend on jikes... even if it is installed. If it is not installed, I do not want it to be installed. Shouldn't we have both NEED_JAVAC and NEED_JIKES? .ifdef(NEED_JIKES) NEED_JAVAC=yes JAVAC=jikes .endif Unless, I am mistaking my defining NEED_JAVAC does not imply in my wanting jikes but rather javac. I have no issues with preferring either of Jikes or the selected-JDK's javac; net/spread was tested with both. spread does not need a java compiler at runtime; it's just a build-dependency. If this is mainly to set a runtime dependency, then net/spread won't need it. n.b. There is already a workaround required to support Jikes; that is, to find rt.jar, I have to use CLASSPATH=${JAVA_CLASSES} ${JAVAC} as the invocation, unless you've fixed this :) Cheers Joshua To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Tue Apr 16 16:36: 6 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from jupiter.linuxengine.net (jupiter.linuxengine.net [209.61.188.254]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 143EA37B404 for ; Tue, 16 Apr 2002 16:36:02 -0700 (PDT) Received: from jupiterweb.commercevault.com (jupiterweb.commercevault.com [209.61.179.16] (may be forged)) by jupiter.linuxengine.net (8.11.6/8.11.0) with ESMTP id g3GNZu302785; Tue, 16 Apr 2002 18:35:57 -0500 Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 18:35:56 -0500 (CDT) From: John Utz X-X-Sender: john@jupiter.linuxengine.net To: zoidberg Cc: Andrew Gerweck , Subject: RE: Test AJP 1.3 connector - Tomcat 4 - Apache 2 In-Reply-To: <1018998476.378.59.camel@BSD-buddha.my.router> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org assuming that you have the apache2 src on your harddrive, i'd be cd'ing into it and doing a ./configure --help | grep share and see what comes up. i am betting that ./configure --enable-shared would be appropriate here.... but i am just guessing..... There are some warnings from libtool complaining about it fails to build mod_webapp.so without lib/libwebapp.so (I have libwebapp.a instead). I use libtool 1.3.4. I have no problem in compiling mod_wabapp on my linux box. I don't know if it is libtool's problem on FreeBSD. Although it may sound symmetric, it is not. If a port sets NEED_JAVAC to YES it really means: "I need a Java compiler and I don't care if it's javac or anything else". If you set USE_JIKES to NO as well, then that means: "I do not want Jikes as the compiler." Hence NEED_JAVAC could be renamed to NEED_JAVA_COMPILER, but then we would have to rename JAVAC to JAVA_COMPILER as well. My suggestion would be to stick with my last proposal. The linux JRE cannot find the bootstrap classes which are not where they should b, thus your build bombing out. I'd suggest not to build this particular port in /usr/tmp (i guess you have a symlink /usr/ports -> /usr/tmp) ... -- UNIX *IS* user friendly.
