It appears that the country "TP" was removed from /usr/share/misc/iso3166 on 18 August. Well, if it's put that way, make release will die because the GENERIC kernel will not fit on a floppy image. I've yet to determine what I think we should cut from the GENERIC kernel to make it fit, except to say that the GENERIC kernel should go on some kind of calorie restricted diet (no more bytes for the kernel) to prepare for the big day. -- Cheers, Phone: 250-387-8437 Cy Schubert Fax: 250-387-5766 Team Leader, Sun/Alpha Team Email: Cy.Schubert@osg.gov.bc.ca Open Systems Group, CITS Ministry of Management Services Province of BC FreeBSD UNIX: cy@FreeBSD.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-qa" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-qa Thu Sep 5 20:30:19 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 18C0537B400; Thu, 5 Sep 2002 20:30:15 -0700 (PDT) Received: from InterJet.dellroad.org (adsl-63-194-81-26.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net [63.194.81.26]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7B00343E4A; Thu, 5 Sep 2002 20:30:14 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from archie@dellroad.org) Received: from arch20m.dellroad.org (arch20m.dellroad.org [10.1.1.20]) by InterJet.dellroad.org (8.9.1a/8.9.1) with ESMTP id UAA25697; Thu, 5 Sep 2002 20:26:32 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from archie@localhost) by arch20m.dellroad.org (8.11.6/8.11.6) id g863P2q12838; Thu, 5 Sep 2002 20:25:02 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from archie) From: Archie Cobbs Message-Id: <200209060325.g863P2q12838@arch20m.dellroad.org> Subject: Re: -STABLE Frozen for 4.7 In-Reply-To: <20020905175412.B40227@freebsdmall.com> "from Murray Stokely at Sep 5, 2002 05:54:13 pm" To: Murray Stokely Date: Thu, 5 Sep 2002 20:25:02 -0700 (PDT) Cc: stable@FreeBSD.ORG, qa@FreeBSD.ORG X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL88 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-qa@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG Murray Stokely writes: > We've prepared a small testing guide that highlights some of the > recent changes. FYI, I recently MFC'd some changes to libc_r (the pthreads library) which in theory should only make things better, but.. - Most applications don't use libc_r so if you use any that do please give them a try now.. - I'm curious if these changes fix the problems that the Apache group was having running the threaded version of Apache on FreebSD. Unfortunately my knowledge of these problems is vague and 2nd hand.. Is anyone closer to these problems who might be able to test it again? At this point, I'm pretty paranoid about changes to the ata(4) driver that aren't bugfixes. We got bit rather badly for 4.6, and I'd just as soon not inflict a similar experience on 4.7 users. Opinions among the REs were mixed when this issue came up a few weeks ago. (I'd be very happy to see atapicam in 4.7-STABLE, however.) Yes, Murray would normally be the right person to deal with this...unfortunately he's going to be unavailable for much of the 4.7 code-freeze. With a little luck he'll read this email and tell us if there's something that needs to be done. It's reasonable to expect the dhcp program to be killed when an interface is dettached. In fact, the pccard system is configured to kill the dhcp program upon dettach. When an ethernet device is dettached, pccardd runs pccard_ether as part of the stopping process. pccard_ether, when told to stop an interface, looks for /var/run/[dhclient|dhcpc].${interface}.pid and, if found, kills the corresponding process. The problem is that, when rc.network starts $dhcp_program to configure DHCP interfaces, it runs a single process for all interfaces and lets dhclient use the default pidfile of /var/run/dhclient.pid. This means that pccard_ether doesn't find the running dhclient process and shouldn't kill it because dhclient may be serving multiple interfaces. One fix is to make rc.network run one $dhcp_program per DHCP interface and specify the pidfile pccard_ether looks for. Included is a patch for rc.network. The patch is against 4.6.2-R, but should work with -stable. Please test it for me as I don't have anything with PCCard slots running FreeBSD. I'll submit the PR if needed. --------------5370841F485B65FC17952654 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; name="rc_network.diff" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="rc_network.diff" --- /usr/src/etc/rc.network Tue Jul 16 05:33:21 2002 +++ /etc/rc.network Sat Sep 7 17:33:35 2002 @@ -208,7 +208,9 @@ done if [ ! -z "${dhcp_interfaces}" ]; then - ${dhcp_program:-/sbin/dhclient} ${dhcp_flags} ${dhcp_interfaces} + for dhcp_interface in ${dhcp_interfaces}; do + ${dhcp_program:-/sbin/dhclient} ${dhcp_flags} -pf /var/run/dhclient.${dhcp_interface}.pid ${dhcp_interface} + done fi for ifn in ${network_interfaces}; do --------------5370841F485B65FC17952654-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-qa" in the body of the message
