For more information, see the websites at: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CAN-2002-1323 http://groups.google.com/groups?threadm=rt-17744-39131.3.96370682846239%40bugs6.perl.org [NOTE] ports/lang/perl5 (perl 5.6.1) and ports/lang/perl5.8 (perl 5.8.0) are not affected, since they have files/patch-Safe.pm in the ports. ports/japanese/perl5 (perl 5.005_03 plus Japanese patch) are affected just as 4.x base system's one, so I'll send another PR. >How-To-Repeat: Try the exploit code at Google Groups archive. >Fix: Apply ports/lang/perl5/patch-Safe.pm to base system's perl. It applies to perl 5.005_03 with no problem. ports/lang/perl5.8/patch-Safe.pm does not apply to perl 5.005_03, since it is an upgrade from Safe.pm 2.07 to 2.09 while perl 5.005_03 has Safe.pm 2.06. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Sep 28 07:40:16 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9E75116A4B3 for ; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 07:40:16 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D45AD43FDF for ; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 07:40:15 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h8SEeFFY079945 for ; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 07:40:15 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id h8SEeFK6079944; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 07:40:15 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats) Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 07:40:15 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200309281440.h8SEeFK6079944@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org From: IIJIMA Hiromitsu Subject: Re: bin/57315: Safe.pm security hole in 4.x base system's perl X-BeenThere: freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: IIJIMA Hiromitsu List-Id: Bug reports List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 14:40:16 -0000 The following reply was made to PR bin/57315; it has been noted by GNATS. Currently, the only perfect solution is to replace CGI.pm with a newer one. 2. It is safe to avoid using CGI.pm's start_form() until ports/57302 is accepted. 3. Just installing ports/www/p5-CGI.pm or latest version at CPAN does not solve the problem, since jperl finds the old CGI.pm in standard perl distribution, before searching site_perl folders where newer CGI.pm is installed. This problem will be solved if ports/57302 is accepted. 4. If you do want to use start_form(), either - all local users are urged to make sure by themselves that newer CGI.pm will be used, by using -I command-line option or manipulating @INC array. - the administrator may ensure using newer CGI.pm by linking newer one to the old one, namely, % su # cd /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.00503 # ln -sf ../site_perl/5.005/CGI.pm . >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Sep 28 09:50:07 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C965516A4B3 for ; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 09:50:07 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3782C43FF2 for ; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 09:50:07 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h8SGo7FY044855 for ; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 09:50:07 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id h8SGo6jB044850; Sun, 28 Sep 2003 09:50:07 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats) Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 09:50:07 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200309281650.h8SGo6jB044850@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org From: IIJIMA Hiromitsu Subject: Re: bin/57321: CGI.pm in 4.x base system has a cross-site scripting vulneravility X-BeenThere: freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: IIJIMA Hiromitsu List-Id: Bug reports List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 16:50:08 -0000 The following reply was made to PR bin/57321; it has been noted by GNATS. These routes do not time-out nor is kernel memory freed, eventually resulting in kernel memory exhaustion and routing failures. This problem has existed for some time. This happens with FreeBSD 5.1-STABLE as well as with -CURRENT, with OLDCARD or NEWCARD (I tried both). When I boot with the card inserted, the laptop hangs at "start_init: trying /sbin/init" (it does *not* panic!). Hanging means, that typing on the keyboard does not have any effect, nor can I log in via telnet remotely nor can I reboot (I have to remove batteries), in short I can't do anything. I tried to use a different IRQ in pccard.conf (config auto "xe" 5), as IRQ 3 is already used, but the same happens. Here the kernel config section of interest: # PCCARD (PCMCIA) support # Pcmcia and cardbus bridge support device cbb # cardbus (yenta) bridge #device pcic # ExCA ISA and PCI bridges device pccard # PC Card (16-bit) bus device cardbus # CardBus (32-bit) bus # OLDCARD nodevice cbb # cardbus (yenta) bridge #nodevice pcic # ExCA ISA and PCI bridges nodevice pccard # PC Card (16-bit) bus nodevice cardbus # CardBus (32-bit) bus device card 1 # pccard bus device pcic # PCMCIA bridge I removed all below "OLDCARD" when I tried NEWCARD.
