I'm getting "missing interrupt" messages from ATAng on one of my older PPro200 machines that was stable with a June kernel, but is not with an October 22 kernel. I don't know that they're related, and I haven't had a chance to look more deeply into it yet. These are the only suspicious messages that make it into the log. It won't recognize HPT370 arrays at all (whereas older 5.1 Kernels work perfectly) and just goes on complaining it can't mount root from it. Promise RAID is somewhat better (can mount root from it but goes on telling me one of the subdisks is down when it clearly isn't) and finally it doesn't seem to even recognize disks connected to a VIA VT8325 southbridge at all. Silicon Image SATA seems to work at times (no RAID at all though) but then starts throwing timeouts under make buildworld loads whereas CVSUP works nicely as far as I can tell. Further, 4.9RC3 also gives me headaches with HPT370 but seems to work ok with Promise RAID, didn't try SATA or VT8325 so far. I'd definitely vote for delaying 4.9 until some more people have beaten on the ATA drivers in there (I don't have any Intel machines so I can't check those chipsets). I'll try the same system with 4.8 later today and report if its the hardware or the software (I'd guess the latter as older 5.1 builds worked nicely). I have a abit nf7 mobo with the nforce2 MCP southbridge. The nf7 has an APU(Audio processing unit); this is evident when running the nvidia drivers and hence producing impressive 2.1 sounds ( APU provides features like 256 voice, 64 3d voice, DX8 submixer and bla bla bla ). Both the nf7 and nf7-S (MCP-T southbridge) have the realtek DAC( Digital Anolog Converter). This changes the digital signals from the APU to anolog signals used by the speakers. Unfortunately they have disabled the nForce MCP Audio Processing Unit (Dolby Digital) driver on the mobo and this is only enabled on the nf7-s mobos running MCP-T. As a result i only get 2 channel sound. now if i'd know about this i wouldn't have bought it, but even the damn abit nf7 box had the word Soundstorm on it. I just want 6 channel audio that works all the time with my games and music(realtek drivers don't have EAX and doesn't give 6 channel with winamp). I'm a student an on a very tight budget. Could you pls teach me to hack the Nvidia unified audio drivers so i can get it to install the MCP-T Audio Processing Unit (Dolby Digital) driver and hence get 6 channel audio. If that won't work could you tell me what i need to do to get 6 channel audio without resorting to realtek drivers. Please i'm really disappointed that abit and nvidia aren't helping and i invested alot of money on decent speakers. This is an error that has actually been happening for a long time, and I'm guessing is the reason for the issues with KDE and the DRI, but it's been a debug message instead of an error. It's something that needs to get fixed, but doesn't mean things have gotten worse since the previous import. It's the highest thing on my list of FreeBSD DRM issues to fix. I wasn't expecting the error to be as common as it is. I admit that I didn't really start KDE up fully, because it's a read-only netboot system, which KDE didn't like very much. -- Eric Anholt eta@lclark.edu http://people.freebsd.org/~anholt/ anholt@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-current@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Oct 26 13:26:27 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-current@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A386516A4B3; Sun, 26 Oct 2003 13:26:27 -0800 (PST) Received: from womble.xtaz.co.uk (82-32-25-111.cable.ubr04.azte.blueyonder.co.uk [82.32.25.111]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A67043FAF; Sun, 26 Oct 2003 13:26:26 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from matt@xtaz.co.uk) Received: from xtaz.co.uk (fraggle.xtaz.co.uk [10.0.0.2]) by womble.xtaz.co.uk (Postfix) with ESMTP id AA45A8FC44; Sun, 26 Oct 2003 21:26:24 +0000 (GMT) Message-ID: <3F9C3C00.4040202@xtaz.co.uk> Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 21:26:24 +0000 From: Matt Smith User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031023 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: current@freebsd.org, emax@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: /etc/bluetooth and /usr/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth(breaks installworld) X-BeenThere: freebsd-current@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Discussions about the use of FreeBSD-current List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 21:26:27 -0000 Maksim, I have just done a buildworld and installworld after the latest bluetooth commits and installworld borks on: install -o root -g wheel -m 444 /usr/src/share/examples/meteor/yuvpk.c /usr/share/examples/meteor/yuvpk.c install -o root -g wheel -m 444 /usr/src/share/examples/meteor/yuvpl.c /usr/share/examples/meteor/yuvpl.c install -o root -g wheel -m 444 /usr/src/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth/rc.bluetooth /usr/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth/rc.bluetooth install: /usr/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth/rc.bluetooth: No such file or directory *** Error code 71 Stop in /usr/src/share/examples. NF7-S uses MCP-T, while NF7 and NF7-M (with integrated video) uses MCP, which, in oppose to MCP-T have no interface to second network card (based on 3COM's chip), have no IEEE-1394A (aka Firewire) and have no SoundStorm Technology. Realtek's ALC650, that is used on that motherboards is capable to switch to 6 channel mode in Windows driver... Have no any idea how to do that in FreeBSD. Sincerely, Maxim M. This should fix some of the problems people have been having with cdrom drives taking a long time to probe. This should also eliminate the need for the initial TUR in cdsize(). cam_periph.c: Don't keep retrying if the error we get back is a fatal error. This should help us detect the transition from "Logical unit not ready, cause not reportable" to "Medium not present" in the "TUR many" handler. I think I can still improve the situation some. Anyway, I found some bugs relating to idle prio tasks, and also ULE had been doing almost twice as many context switches as 4BSD. Now it's doing about 8% more. I'm still tracking this down. Anyhow, it should be much closer now. I still have some plans for SMP that should improve things quite a bit there but UP is looking good. ULE was 2.4 times slower for make depend and 2.1 times slower for make obj. Something must have been very wrong, since make obj, especially, should be completely i/o bound so it shouldn't be affected by the scheduler. Also, run a bunch of CPU hog processes with various nicenesses and look at top output to check that they are given reasonable amounts of CPU.
