14:18:37 -0000 I am currently running debian on my ultra 10 box. I have a couple of questions that I need taken care of before I can decide whether to try FreeBSD. The docs for 5.0 say there are some issues with the IDE controller on this machine. Will 5.0-current let me boot off of the hard drive? Will I be able to use X with the Creator3D card and the ATI card builtin to my machine? Should I just wait until FreeBSD 5.1? Thank you. satadru -- The greatness of the United States is that it corrects its errors. -Octavio Paz From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 30 07:48:40 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD16137B405 for ; Wed, 30 Apr 2003 07:48:40 -0700 (PDT) Received: from dragon.nuxi.com (trang.nuxi.com [66.93.134.19]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 57A6743F3F for ; Wed, 30 Apr 2003 07:48:40 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from obrien@NUXI.com) Received: from dragon.nuxi.com (obrien@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dragon.nuxi.com (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h3UEmSm2008410; Wed, 30 Apr 2003 07:48:32 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from obrien@dragon.nuxi.com) Received: (from obrien@localhost) by dragon.nuxi.com (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id h3UEmRTI008409; Wed, 30 Apr 2003 07:48:27 -0700 (PDT) Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2003 07:48:27 -0700 From: "David O'Brien" To: satadru@umich.edu Message-ID: <20030430144827.GA8387@dragon.nuxi.com> References: <176370187.1051697913@brassmonkey.snre.umich.edu> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <176370187.1051697913@brassmonkey.snre.umich.edu> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i X-Operating-System: FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT Organization: The NUXI BSD Group X-Pgp-Rsa-Fingerprint: B7 4D 3E E9 11 39 5F A3 90 76 5D 69 58 D9 98 7A X-Pgp-Rsa-Keyid: 1024/34F9F9D5 cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ultra 10 support X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: obrien@freebsd.org List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2003 14:48:41 -0000 On Wed, Apr 30, 2003 at 10:18:33AM -0400, satadru@umich.edu wrote: > I am currently running debian on my ultra 10 box. The panic is caused by sym calling bus_dmamap_destroy() on a dmamap obtained via bus_dmamem_alloc(), after bus_dmamem_free() has been called on it. The i386 and alpha busdma implementations look like this is not allowed, and bus_dmamem_free() is supposed to free the map (if it weren't, map_count would be handled in a wrong way), so that is how it is implemented for sparc64; maybe that needs to be changed. - Thomas -- Thomas Moestl http://www.tu-bs.de/~y0015675/ http://people.FreeBSD.org/~tmm/ PGP fingerprint: 1C97 A604 2BD0 E492 51D0 9C0F 1FE6 4F1D 419C 776C --/04w6evG8XlLl3ft Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="iommu-space.diff" Index: sparc64/sparc64/iommu.c =================================================================== RCS file: /d/ncvs/src/sys/sparc64/sparc64/iommu.c,v retrieving revision 1.24 diff -u -r1.24 iommu.c --- sparc64/sparc64/iommu.c 10 Apr 2003 23:03:33 -0000 1.24 +++ sparc64/sparc64/iommu.c 1 May 2003 00:33:10 -0000 @@ -143,7 +143,7 @@ /* * Tuning constants. */ -#define IOMMU_MAX_PRE (128 * 1024) +#define IOMMU_MAX_PRE (32 * 1024) #define IOMMU_MAX_PRE_SEG 3 MALLOC_DEFINE(M_IOMMU, "dvmamem", "IOMMU DVMA Buffers"); Index: sparc64/pci/psycho.c =================================================================== RCS file: /d/ncvs/src/sys/sparc64/pci/psycho.c,v retrieving revision 1.31 diff -u -r1.31 psycho.c --- sparc64/pci/psycho.c 10 Apr 2003 23:03:33 -0000 1.31 +++ sparc64/pci/psycho.c 1 May 2003 00:33:19 -0000 @@ -571,7 +571,7 @@ sc->sc_is->is_sb[1] = 0; if (OF_getproplen(sc->sc_node, "no-streaming-cache") < 0) sc->sc_is->is_sb[0] = sc->sc_pcictl + PCR_STRBUF; - psycho_iommu_init(sc, 2); + psycho_iommu_init(sc, 3); } else { /* Just copy IOMMU state, config tag and address */ sc->sc_is = osc->sc_is; Index: sparc64/sbus/sbus.c =================================================================== RCS file: /d/ncvs/src/sys/sparc64/sbus/sbus.c,v retrieving revision 1.16 diff -u -r1.16 sbus.c --- sparc64/sbus/sbus.c 12 Apr 2003 06:43:28 -0000 1.16 +++ sparc64/sbus/sbus.c 1 May 2003 00:33:44 -0000 @@ -430,7 +430,7 @@ * DMA pointer will be translated by the first page of the IOTSB. * To detect bugs we'll allocate and ignore the first entry. */ - iommu_init(name, &sc->sc_is, 2, -1, 1); + iommu_init(name, &sc->sc_is, 3, -1, 1); /* Enable the over-temperature and power-fail intrrupts. */ rid = 0; --/04w6evG8XlLl3ft-- From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 30 19:30:34 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E21D837B401 for ; Wed, 30 Apr 2003 19:30:34 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pimout3-ext.prodigy.net (pimout3-ext.prodigy.net [207.115.63.102]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E950D43FAF for ; Wed, 30 Apr 2003 19:30:33 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jtx@hatesville.com) Received: from theplague (adsl-64-175-105-46.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net [64.175.105.46])h412UNUl109174 for ; Wed, 30 Apr 2003 22:30:32 -0400 From: "James Taylor" To: Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2003 19:30:30 -0700 Message-ID: <003701c30f89$a56c4be0$4500a8c0@theplague> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook, Build 10.0.2616 Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165 Subject: CVSup Errors X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 01 May 2003 02:30:35 -0000 Hi everyone, I just joined this list two seconds ago and have a question for you all. I couldn't find anything specific to this in the archives, so this may be a common question or I just wasn't searching for the correct term. I just installed 5.0 on my E420R, and CVSup for some reason didn't compile during the install. When trying to manually make cvsup-without-gui (or cvsup for that matter) I keep getting this error over and over: Cannot determine M3 target for this architecture Looking through the makefile I see some options regarding the architecture, and it looks like the only options there are i386 and alpha: --snip TARGET= FreeBSD2 .elif ${ARCH} == "i386" .if ${OSVERSION} < 400011 TARGET= FreeBSD3 .else TARGET= FreeBSD4 .endif .elif ${ARCH} == "alpha" .if ${OSVERSION} < 400011 --snip I'm assuming it's not compiling due to the lack of sparc64 support in the Makefile, but maybe I'm wrong. Any suggestions on making this thing work? I'm not proficient enough with Makefiles to hack in any changes. I'm assuming you're using the ports.tar.gz from the 5.0-RELEASE iso, which didn't have support for cvsup. Official support was just committed to the port recently, it should work on 5.0-RELEASE. Either mount an up to date ports tree from another machine, or download a new ports.tar.gz from one of the ftp sites. From what I understand, to do any partition management you need to run sysinstall to create your partitions. The only options here after creating partitions however is to set it up as either ufs or swap. How would you go about setting the partition type to vinum without being able to run disklabel -e? Am I S.O.L. here?
