It did however boot and run quite well under 4.xx on a uniprocessor kernel, without any reconfiguration of the EISA bus. Under 4.xx it also did a machine check under a SMP kernel. Apparently, the 2100A is quite an evil machine with it's split PCI bus, I did remove all PCI cards from the machine, as there were reports a machine checks with certain cards. Removing the all the cards had no effect, however. > Bernd Walter wrote: > >> On Sun, Jan 25, 2004 at 12:57:41PM +0100, Wilko Bulte wrote: >> >>> On Sun, Jan 25, 2004 at 12:51:12PM +0100, Bernd Walter wrote: >>> >>>> On Fri, Jan 23, 2004 at 05:06:14PM -0700, Tom Ponsford wrote: >>>> >>>>> I decided to replace a disk on the ol' 2100A. Instead, it reports an error about there being no free space on the selected disk. >How-To-Repeat: Install OpenVMS on a hard disk, then attempt to overwrite it with FreeBSD 5.2. Please properly wrap you lines, by hand if necessary. :-) 2. Please email phk@freebsd.org and ask him what part of your disk he needs 'dd'ed and sent to him to determine if this is something GEOM isn't taking into account. I thought I had fixed it but I guess I didn't get it done back when I was getting GEOM+sysinstall to even work at all on Alpha. Basically, though, if you take a blank disk with no label at all, sysinstall chokes on it thinking it has no room. -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve" = http://www.FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 26 11:03:16 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9D53816A4CE for ; Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:03:16 -0800 (PST) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3480E43D5E for ; Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:01:50 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i0QJ1eFR038015 for ; Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:01:40 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.10/8.12.10/Submit) id i0QJ1d6F038002 for freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org; Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:01:39 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:01:39 -0800 (PST) Message-Id: <200401261901.i0QJ1d6F038002@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.org Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 19:03:16 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems S Submitted Tracker Resp. I booted, in MP mode: Windows NT, VMS, Redhat Linux 7.2 (the HP/compaq edition) Tru64 and in uniprocessor mode: FreeBSD 4.6, 4.7-Release/Stable into sysinstall NetBSD (really surprised..but it didn't see the disks) into the install program. It DOES NOT boot: FreeBSD 4.xx MP kernel -machine check as it probes PCI/EISA bus FreeBSD 5.0, 5.2 uniprocessor kernel or MP kernel--machine check as it probes PCI/EISA bus. I'll file a bug report soon. Cheers Tom Ponsford > Hi All, > > I decided to replace a disk on the ol' 2100A.
