There's an option '-Dblabla' for IDEA which disables strict JDK check. I had a talk to IDEA developers last year about it and they described reasons -- they needed some bugfixes which were in _04 (or smth else) only, and implemented check. > Obviously I should downgrade(?) the linux jdk and the native jdk1.5.0 which > I find > rather unpleasant (deinstalling, finding the right version, downloading, > compiling, etc). Actually, this and the other linux-jdk errors don't look like problems with the port. The remaining files are symbolic links generated by javavmwrapper. They _should_ be cleaned up during uninstall though when this VM unregisters itself with javavmwrapper. I'll see if I can reproduce this. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Feb 2 23:49:50 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 84EAB16A4CE for ; Wed, 2 Feb 2005 23:49:50 +0000 (GMT) Received: from lakermmtao07.cox.net (lakermmtao07.cox.net [68.230.240.32]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CC88143D2F for ; Wed, 2 Feb 2005 23:49:49 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from conrads@cox.net) Received: from dolphin.local.net ([68.14.122.164]) by lakermmtao07.cox.net ESMTP <20050202234948.GQBY20686.lakermmtao07.cox.net@dolphin.local.net>; Wed, 2 Feb 2005 18:49:48 -0500 Received: from dolphin.local.net (localhost.local.net [127.0.0.1]) by dolphin.local.net (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id j12Nnlhs022274; Wed, 2 Feb 2005 17:49:47 -0600 (CST) (envelope-from conrads@cox.net) Date: Wed, 2 Feb 2005 17:49:42 -0600 From: "Conrad J. I am not sure what the cause is, but I found that I can get jdk15 to build for amd64 by doing the following: cd /usr/ports/java/jdk15/work/j2se/make/java/java cut and past the command and run it interactively. It seems like the command line is too long, so when I cut and paste I didn't compile all the files and I had to trim the last one that was cut off. Nevertheless, I am confident that the necessary patches are fairly minimal, since there is an amd64 build target for linux. All it takes is someone with an amd64 system and some time to invest. Unfortunately, preliminary results are extremely disappointing. It seems that any java app I try running instantly tries to allocate an entire gigabyte of RAM right off the bat. Running apps are showing sizes of 1200, 1300, 1400 megs, which is just completely crazy. The same apps running with jdk-1.5.0 on my 32-bit Athlon box under STABLE are fine, no such craziness with memory allocation. Is anyone else seeing the same sort of thing? Right now, for me, jdk-1.5.0 is all but useless on my amd64 box (I only have 512 megs of physical RAM; but even if I had more, this sort of memory hogging is just completely out of line). :-( -- Conrad J.
