There is one known LOR in module unload. But the LOR complaint message is misleading since it's not legal to grab sx lock while holding mutex. I think the fix would be hard without cleaning up many parts of audio subsystem. But the complaint would be harmless if sndstat is not accessed during module unload. The patch was tested on an old notebook. Becasue the notebook is UP machine I had no chance to run the patch on real SMP hardware. :( The patch is available at: http://people.freebsd.org/~yongari/maestro3.mpsafe.patch.0509 Feedbacks are welcome. -- Regards, Pyun YongHyeon http://www.kr.freebsd.org/~yongari | yongari@freebsd.org From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Mon May 9 08:18:43 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 064CE16A4E7 for ; Mon, 9 May 2005 08:18:43 +0000 (GMT) Received: from pooker.samsco.org (pooker.samsco.org [168.103.85.57]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4065143D1D for ; Mon, 9 May 2005 08:18:40 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from scottl@samsco.org) Received: from [192.168.254.21] (rat.samsco.home [192.168.254.21]) (authenticated bits=0) by pooker.samsco.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j498NcIG026780; Mon, 9 May 2005 02:23:38 -0600 (MDT) (envelope-from scottl@samsco.org) Message-ID: <427F1CA6.5010207@samsco.org> Date: Mon, 09 May 2005 02:17:42 -0600 From: Scott Long User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD amd64; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050321 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: yongari@rndsoft.co.kr References: <20050509075416.GD915@rndsoft.co.kr> In-Reply-To: <20050509075416.GD915@rndsoft.co.kr> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.8 required=3.8 tests=ALL_TRUSTED autolearn=failed version=3.0.2 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.0.2 (2004-11-16) on pooker.samsco.org cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: maestro3 mpsafe patch X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 09 May 2005 08:18:43 -0000 Pyun YongHyeon wrote: > Here is patch for mpsafe maestro3(4). > There is one known LOR in module unload. I've just create a irc.freenode.net channel #freebsd-multimdia just for that. It's starting small but I hope to get many others there. Specially to talk about bktr devices, the fact that we can't capture video and audio at the same time (NetBSD fixed this), that mplayer simply ignores advecide option what is used to get audio from a source other the video source. And that new versions of ffmpeg just won't capture video but it is as good as hell for anything else. It evens handles the new apple format. Please, no request on how to runs some program, sent that to #freebsdhelp or #freebbsd Regards, -- Mario S F Ferreira - DF - Brazil - "I guess this is a signature." feature, n: a documented bug | bug, n: an undocumented feature From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 10 16:15:02 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8FE3916A4CE for ; Tue, 10 May 2005 16:15:02 +0000 (GMT) Received: from smtp.wp.pl (smtp.wp.pl [212.77.101.1]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C743143D7C for ; Tue, 10 May 2005 16:15:01 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ipluta@wp.pl) Received: (wp-smtpd smtp.wp.pl 11185 invoked from network); 10 May 2005 18:15:00 +0200 Received: from ip-213-17-164-70.netia.com.pl (HELO wp.pl) (ipluta@[213.17.164.70]) (envelope-sender ) by smtp.wp.pl (WP-SMTPD) with SMTP for ; 10 May 2005 18:15:00 +0200 Message-ID: <4280DE89.B51D94D1@wp.pl> Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 18:17:13 +0200 From: Ireneusz Pluta X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.8 [en] (Windows NT 5.0; U) X-Accept-Language: en,pdf MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-WP-AV: skaner antywirusowy poczty Wirtualnej Polski S. I just use cards, that digitalize video, while the audio data is provided analogously (I connected one card to the left channel of CD-in and the other card to the right channel of CD-in). That works fine. So the driver seems to be nice... The first card is a Hauppauge Model 61204 B1M (Philips PAL I tuner; WinCast/TV). By combining different solutions I get the sound back and my tv is now sluggish: Here is the command I'm running: buffer -s 8125 < /dev/cxm0 | mplayer -cache 8125 - Unfortunately I still get lots and lots of "cxm0: encoder dma not enough buffer space free" output on the terminal when "I stop mplayer". I need to reboot the workstation to stop the messages. Regarding watching live tv, what is the most comfortable way to do it. For now I do the following: 1) pvr250-setchannel my_channel_mhz 2) start mplayer: buffer -s 8125 < /dev/cxm0 | mplayer -cache 8125 - 3) stop mplayer 4) change channel with pvr250-setchannel... 5) restart mplayer: buffer -s... 6) etc.... Is there some better way to do this? Which program are you using for watching live tv on freebsd5.4 with the pvr350? The driver itself not MPSAFE, which is another reason. You can try to disable it and use pcm virtual channel instead. Can you try these patch: http://staff.mybsd.org.my/skywizard/FreeBSD/sound/via8233.c.diff http://staff.mybsd.org.my/skywizard/FreeBSD/sound/vchan.c.diff Be sure to add hint.pcm.0.via_dxs_disabled=3D1 into your /boot/device.hints (this will disable DXS playback).
