I don't know if you noticed this, but there was a recent commit to src/include/Makefile (cvs version 1.247) that changed the generated file /usr/include/osreldate.h by adding a prototype for the function getosreldate(). This breaks compilation of x11-servers/xorg-server and I would guess a bunch of other X ports. In x11-servers/xorg-server the problem is that config/cf/FreeBSD.cf includes that file, apparently assuming that everything in it is a C preprocessor directive. The new prototype results in Makefile.proto files that make does not accept in various places in the config directories during make config of the port. This seems a little complex for me to produce a patch for. You all may have to negotiate with the committers to remove the prototype or to add more complexity to the X configuration stuff to filter that prototype out. Not a decision I'm comfortable suggesting a path for. I'm happy to provide more info if you need it. I think the best solution here will be to just use the major/minor versions instead of osreldate and not worry about fine-grained feature addition on (old) -current/-stable in the imake case. --=20 Eric Anholt eta@lclark.edu http://people.freebsd.org/~anholt/ anholt@FreeBSD.org --=-Qj/r3p9AZ/7rMiEYVL6B Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQBDJ1VhHUdvYGzw6vcRAuD8AJ46AGeJNKEiVASeOUZbQA6/wyfeAwCglb3n xmpKEEziIv4k97wsdBgpr/8= =45rt -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-Qj/r3p9AZ/7rMiEYVL6B-- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Sep 14 09:41:26 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: x11@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 23D3016A41F for ; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 09:41:26 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from josemi@freebsd.jazztel.es) Received: from smtp02.jazztel.es (smtp02.jazztel.es [62.14.3.171]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2C7D143D49 for ; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 09:41:23 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from josemi@freebsd.jazztel.es) Received: from [127.0.0.1] (helo=localhost) by smtp02.jazztel.es with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1EFTm9-0001Em-6J for x11@freebsd.org; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 11:41:57 +0200 Received: from smtp02.jazztel.es ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (lorca [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10034) with ESMTP id 04019-06 for ; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 11:41:57 +0200 (CEST) Received: from [62.14.212.64] (helo=62-14-212-64.inversas.jazztel.es) by smtp02.jazztel.es with esmtpa (Exim 4.43) id 1EFTm8-0001Dz-Pw for x11@freebsd.org; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 11:41:57 +0200 Received: from redesjm.local (orion.redesjm.local [192.168.254.16]) by 62-14-212-64.inversas.jazztel.es (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id j8E9fIHg023300 for ; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 11:41:18 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from josemi@redesjm.local) Received: from localhost (localhost [[UNIX: localhost]]) by redesjm.local (8.13.3/8.13.3/Submit) id j8E9fxrs089728 for x11@freebsd.org; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 11:41:59 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from josemi@redesjm.local) From: Jose M Rodriguez To: x11@freebsd.org Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2005 11:41:58 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.8.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200509141141.58611.josemi@redesjm.local> X-AntiVirus: checked by AntiVir Milter (version: 1.1.0-7; AVE: 6.31.1.0; VDF: 6.31.1.0; host: antares.redesjm.local) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at jazztel.es Cc: Subject: savage Xv problems in FreeBSD 5.4 X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2005 09:41:26 -0000 hi, This is FreeBSD-5.4 Release with HEAD ports, all working but a minor problem with Xorg Xv. The Board is Via KM266 based (savagePro DDR-K, vt8235) using Xorg 6.8.2 savage driver. After using Xv (from mplayer), any change to text console leave Xv unusable (blue video). Change to text console before Xv first use don't fire the problem. Reset the sever throuhg kdm terminate/login go to a working state. Before test linux or xorg-server-snap, any help on this is welcome. From: Dejan Lesjak To: bug-followup@freebsd.org, skv@freebsd.org Cc: Subject: Re: ports/85735: Force imake respect CC/CXX Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2005 14:56:57 +0200 Hardcoding the value of CC and CXX is actually what I was trying to avoid. Namely I was considering that imake is build with gcc40 and thus CcCmd is recorded with value "gcc40" in Imake.tmpl. Now everything that uses imake to create Makefiles will grab this value and compile with same compiler imake port was compiled with even if this is not desired. However on the other hand it could also be said that that is exactly what is expected - that compiling imake with CC=gcc40 should in fact record that gcc40 is desired compiler for all things using imake. Overriding this default should still be possible with usual usage of make. Even looking at imake configuration files as defining the defaults for specific system (in this case FreeBSD as defined in FreeBSD.cf) both alternatives above make sense to me right now (with perhaps a minor tweak of placing such override in host.def or site.def instead of Imake.tmpl). As right now we are in ports slush, I would feel more comfortable in changing things after 6-release is out and I'll ponder on this some more until then if you don't think this needs urgent fixing.
