The BIOS is busted. ACPI is supposed to enumerate all the Host-PCI bridges as ACPI devices with a specified _HID or _CID of "PNP0A03" and a _BBN field to indicate the PCI bus number of the immediate child bus. Your pciconf shows 4 Host-PCI bridges, but ACPI only lists 1. I would look for a BIOS update and/or flame ASUS for violating the spec. There's no standard way to figure out what PCI bus numbers to use for the Host-PCI bridges, which is why ACPI is supposed to enumerate them with appropriate _BBN methods. Your network device is probably on one of the PCI busses we aren't seeing. -- John Baldwin From owner-freebsd-acpi@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Feb 13 23:14:33 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5079A16A400; Tue, 13 Feb 2007 23:14:33 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from joao@matik.com.br) Received: from msrv.matik.com.br (msrv.matik.com.br [200.152.83.14]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CA67213C442; Tue, 13 Feb 2007 23:14:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from joao@matik.com.br) Received: from ap-h.matik.com.br (ap-h.matik.com.br [200.152.83.36]) by msrv.matik.com.br (8.13.8/8.13.1) with ESMTP id l1DMCx3N098258; Tue, 13 Feb 2007 20:12:59 -0200 (BRST) (envelope-from joao@matik.com.br) From: JoaoBR Organization: Infomatik To: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2007 20:14:03 -0300 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.4 References: <20070213232710.4e45286c@it.buh.tecnik93.com> In-Reply-To: <20070213232710.4e45286c@it.buh.tecnik93.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200702132014.03842.joao@matik.com.br> X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV version 0.88.4, clamav-milter version 0.88.4 on msrv.matik.com.br X-Virus-Status: Clean Cc: Subject: Re: Asus_M2N-MX: on-board nic not found X-BeenThere: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: ACPI and power management development List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2007 23:14:33 -0000 On Tuesday 13 February 2007 18:27, Ion-Mihai IOnut Tetcu wrote: > Hi, > > > I have a Asus M2N-MX motherboard (NVIDIA nForce 430) > http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3D3&l2=3D101&l3=3D343&model=3D1338&m= odelmenu=3D1 > under 6.2-R it is working fine for me here as nve w/o problemas nve0: port 0xdc00-0xdc07 mem=20 0xfe02c000-0xfe02cfff irq 22 at device 20.0 on pci0 nve0: Ethernet address 00:18:f3:53:ce:ea miibus0: on nve0 ukphy0: on miibus0 ukphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, 1000baseT,=20 1000baseT-FDX, auto nve0: Ethernet address: 00:18:f3:53:ce:ea > > The bigest problem I'm having with it is the on-board nic, that ain't > detected at all ( as in doesn't appear in pciconf -vl from what I read > it should be supported by the nfe driver). Basically, I added support in powerd(8) to specify a maximum and a minimum frequencies for adaptive mode. That is, powerd will only switch between frequencies between the specified bounds instead of switching through all available frequencies. I think the idea is nice and I hope to have implemented it in the right way, but I'd like your review before committing it. Patch is attached, or can be found at http://people.freebsd.org/~matteo/powerd-minmaxfreq.patch (leave me in the reply list, since I'm not subscribed to freebsd-acpi@) Thanks in advance Best regards --=20 Matteo Riondato FreeBSD Committer (http://www.freebsd.org) G.U.F.I. However, I'd prefer not to keep adding more user-visible command line flags that we'll have to support for backwards compat in the future. The current approach in powerd is a rough heuristic and with a little bit of work on good predictive algorithms (see Summer of Code description on wiki), we won't need to provide such specific tweaks. If we are going to provide this kind of configurability, it should be in a config file, not command line. I'd like to see a power policy config file that gives various profiles and events that cause a switch to each policy. Min/max would make sense there. Again, I appreciate your work but don't want to continue down the current path of powerd. It needs to be a real power management utility and have that flexibility. -- Nate From owner-freebsd-acpi@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 17 18:17:01 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 16D5F16A400; Sat, 17 Feb 2007 18:17:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from matteo@freebsd.org) Received: from vsmtp1.tin.it (vsmtp1.tin.it [212.216.176.141]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C0A7513C461; Sat, 17 Feb 2007 18:17:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from matteo@freebsd.org) Received: from localhost.krapfengeist (87.0.186.177) by vsmtp1.tin.it (7.2.072.1) id 45D19E17007074E7; Sat, 17 Feb 2007 19:16:30 +0100 Received: from localhost.krapfengeist (rionda@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by localhost.krapfengeist (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id l1HIGQJv003473; Sat, 17 Feb 2007 19:16:27 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from matteo@freebsd.org) Received: (from rionda@localhost) by localhost.krapfengeist (8.13.8/8.13.8/Submit) id l1HIGJpD003472; Sat, 17 Feb 2007 19:16:19 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from matteo@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: localhost.krapfengeist: rionda set sender to matteo@freebsd.org using -f Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2007 19:16:19 +0100 From: Matteo Riondato To: Nate Lawson Message-ID: <20070217181619.GA3372@krapfengeist.homenet.telecomitalia.it> References: <20070217140940.GB1040@krapfengeist.homenet.telecomitalia.it> <45D739C7.8090505@root.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="ZPt4rx8FFjLCG7dd" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <45D739C7.8090505@root.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.2i Cc: bruno@freebsd.org, freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org Subject: Re: RFC: powerd patch to review related to bin/104689 X-BeenThere: freebsd-acpi@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: ACPI and power management development List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2007 18:17:01 -0000 --ZPt4rx8FFjLCG7dd Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Sat, Feb 17, 2007 at 09:22:15AM -0800, Nate Lawson wrote: > Matteo Riondato wrote: > > All, > > while digging in the PR database, I found bin/104689 and decided to > > implement the idea in it. > >=20 > Again, I appreciate your work but don't want to continue down the > current path of powerd. I had fun working on it anyway, which is enough. =3D) Best Regards --=20 Matteo Riondato FreeBSD Committer (http://www.freebsd.org) G.U.F.I.
