These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. r - repocopy The resolution of the problem report is dependent on a repocopy operation within the CVS repository which is awaiting completion. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. And you were sure that all cvsup traffic was tunneled over http? https? inside DNS queries? as a distinct IP-level protocol? in a special Vlan directly inside Ethernet frames? :-) To add the info into Handbook might be a good idea, but I just can't help smiling when I try to imagine how cvsup working through a dedicated tcp port can cause frustration. /etc/services is your friend. The trend in packet filtering is to go for a default deny policy, and we should expect users to find themselves behind filtering gateways (aka firewalls) these days. I haven't actually checked, but it would not surprise me to find that significant chunks of the handbook were originally written when the net was generally open and unfiltered. Mentioning that the program needs a particular port open would quite possibly remove that particular cause of frustration for more cvsup newbies. > /etc/services is your friend. Oh, certainly. The problem was not with FreeBSD or the port but that there is a lack of hints to direct the user to where to find the proper settings to auto start the server. I suggest that you add an entry into into the Apache page in the FreeBSD Handbook that directs the user to review the file /usr/local/etc/rc.d/apachexx where they will find all the rc.d settings for that version of Apache. Thanks for the great docs. Personally I only use Parallels on MacOS X. I have some screenshots that Loader and I will work at adding to the chapter since it is a rather graphical tool. Please review the existing two sections for technical accuracy, grammar, and sgml markup. Loader is also working on additional sections for VMWare and Qemu. The chapter is also lacking index terms at the moment. - Murray From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 6 14:00:15 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7352F16A40E for ; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 14:00:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [69.147.83.40]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3730E13C4BA for ; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 14:00:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id l36E0Ckh058935 for ; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 14:00:12 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id l36E0C3V058929; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 14:00:12 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Fri, 6 Apr 2007 14:00:12 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200704061400.l36E0C3V058929@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, James Flemer Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 99D3216A402 for ; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 13:59:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [69.147.83.33]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 72E3C13C45B for ; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 13:59:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id l36DxGbs062450 for ; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 13:59:16 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id l36DsExS056042; Fri, 6 Apr 2007 13:54:14 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200704061354.l36DsExS056042@www.freebsd.org> Date: Fri, 6 Apr 2007 13:54:14 GMT From: James Flemer To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.0 Cc: Subject: docs/111320: update rfcomm_pppd.8 server example for dns X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 06 Apr 2007 14:00:15 -0000 >Number: 111320 >Category: docs >Synopsis: update rfcomm_pppd.8 server example for dns >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Fri Apr 06 14:00:11 GMT 2007 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: James Flemer >Release: FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE >Organization: >Environment: >Description: In the PPP Configuration -> RFCOMM Server example for ppp.conf, I would suggest adding 'accept dns'. Many mobile devices (e.g. Palm) need this to function. Accepting DNS queries will have no negative impact on devices that do not need this function, and clearly help for those devices that do. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail:
