Just rebuilt a new kernel with sources up to yesterday. civctp refuses to start-up. The game used to have a demo-port (which limited it to 1000AC, I think): games/civ2demo. If you check the port out from Attic, you should be able to reproduce the issue. Although the original MASTER_SITE is gone, FreeBSD's mirrors continue to carry civctp-demo-10251999.tar.gz. In fact, you may not even need the port. Simply download the demo (no legal problems with that) and untar it anywhere: fetch -o /usr/ports/distfiles/ \ http://ftp5.se.freebsd.org/distfiles/civctp-demo-10251999.tar.gz cd tar xvzpf /usr/ports/distfiles/civctp-demo-10251999.tar.gz mv ./civctp_demo/bin/x86/glibc-2.1/civctp ./civctp_demo/civctp brandelf -t Linux ./civctp_demo/civctp ./civctp_demo/civctp This no longer works for me on amd64. Myself being involved in purely=20 user-space hacking, I only have one computer, which is also used by others= =20 both as a desktop /and/ a web-/DNS-server. It is not a "kickbox". The above instructions should allow anyone to reproduce the problem on=20 whatever kickbox they are using to test their work on Linuxulator. Currently I'm using user-mode networking. My system is running an Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz with 2GB of RAM. I run Windows 2000 as a guest inside QEMU. Lately I've been experiencing the following problem with QEMU: During normal operation of the system (everything but QEMU being mostly idle), QEMU has no problems. Inside QEMU, I run mIRC under Windows 2000. I run QEMU at a -19 nice level. QEMU is running under a user account, not root. When something outside QEMU (such as me running an emulator or even doing a portupgrade) starts to take up some of the CPU, after a couple minutes, mIRC will lose connection with the message "Software caused connection abort [10053]". Reading up on this, it seems this is a Windows Winsock error message meaning it disconnected because it didn't get a reply back within a timeout period. Strangely, I could be disconnected just a second or two after receiving a message from the IRC server. This only seems to happen when the system isn't completely idle (unless it's only QEMU making the system be at 100% CPU, then there is no problem). So the real reason for my question is wondering if using QEMU's tuntap would work better and stop this problem from happening, or if it'll still happen anyways. If it would help, I plan on using the clone_interfaces option of rc.conf to add bridge0, and then add my network interface (nve0) to the bridge, and make /etc/qemu-ifup activate the tap device when it makes it and add that to the bridge if needed. I'm aware the port is marked as i386 only, but I noticed a previous thread regarding this issue [1] to which the OP never responded (at least to the list) with the relevant info. I've produced ktrace.out's for teamspeak_server on both 6.2-stable i386 (which works successfully) and 6.2-stable AMD64 (which gets stuck in a loop and sits there chewing cpu). I've also kdump'd the ktrace.out's for perusal. [2] No output is seen on the console etc in the AMD64 case, it just sits there until the process is manually killed. Both the 6.2-stable i386 and AMD64 installs that were used to produce these are running stock GENERIC kernels with linux_base-fc-4_10. If any further debug information is needed, please let me know. Any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated. Regards, Jase. I didn't took them into consideration last lime). Your program seems to work as expected. Are those numbers for getdents() 632, 1004, etc. have sense? BTW, seems the real programm deals with full paths though. Sorry to be laconic. There is nothing wrong with 4084. The magic 4096 is the answer. I.e. the first case (when a buffer is equal to that has been really read) is wrongly processed. Ex. in C strings ends with 0x0. If a buffer 4096 bytes long was assigned a string 4096 bytes long then the 0x0 will become a 4097 byte. And this string will cause a fault of the program. PS. I don't say that I gave a strict example of the case. Of cause it may be something else. But definitely there is a bug in processing of 4096 bytes log strings by our linuxulator code (somewhere at the linux_getdents area, linux_getdents64 used by linux_base-fc4 is not affected by _at least_ 4096 bytes long strings). Hm, is my current explanation more understandable? Isn't this the code where we made sure that we don't use more buffer =20 than we have? In some part of the code we specially made sure that we =20 don't overflow either the FreeBSD size nor the linux size. You could check if nbytes is with or without the \0. I had a look at the =20 annotated view in cvsweb and it was changed by marcel in rev. 1.55: =20 http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/compat/linux/linux_file.c.diff= ?r1=3D1.54;r2=3D1.55;f=3Dh He copied this from the previous revision and changed it from =20 DIRBLKSIZ to LINUX_DIRBLKSIZ. I suggest to dig deeper into the history via the annotated view of the =20 corresponding revisions to see if a commit log contains the rationale =20 for this. If not try to understand what the code is supposed to be and change it =20 accordingly. Bye, Alexander. --=20 Monogamy is the Western custom of one wife and hardly any mistresses. =09=09-- H. H.
