While Google'ing arround I've found your posting from Thu, 15 Feb 2007 and the small hack you did inserting some simple printf(...) statements into if_iwi.c; http://groups.google.com/group/lucky.freebsd.net/msg/d52550e98e057782 the source coming with 6.2-RELEASE has as CVS-Id line the version info 1.8.2.10 2006/10/29; is there any real fix for this problem? Btw: The laptop I've updated is the one of my wife and you can imagine what she is now saying about FreeBSD :-) I'm in big trouble here :-) Thx matthias ----- Forwarded message from Matthias Apitz ----- Date: Sat, 19 May 2007 16:26:07 +0200 From: Matthias Apitz To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: iwi0: iwi_cmd: cmd 6 not sent, busy && freezing soemtimes Hello, I've updated one of my laptops to FreeBSD-6.2R, using for the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG the firmware from the ports /usr/ports/net/iwi-firmware-kmod; during boot the driver is loaded via loader.conf and the adapter initialized via rc.conf: ifconfig_iwi0="inet 192.168.2.4 netmask 255.255.255.0 ssid XXXXXXX channel 6 wepkey 0xXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX weptxkey 1 wepmode on" on every boot I see in /var/log/messages: May 19 14:53:15 far kernel: iwi0: mem 0xffcfe000 -0xffcfefff irq 19 at device 3.0 on pci1 May 19 14:53:15 far kernel: iwi0: Ethernet address: 00:13:ce:71:b3:a8 May 19 14:53:15 far kernel: iwi0: iwi_cmd: cmd 6 not sent, busy May 19 14:53:15 far kernel: iwi0: device configuration failed May 19 14:59:05 far kernel: iwi0: link state changed to DOWN May 19 14:59:05 far kernel: iwi0: link state changed to UP but the link comes up, if the boot not freezes; when it does freeze the last lines are: ... Setting hostname: ... net.inet6.ip6.auto_linklocal: 1->0 when the boot continues this last line (net.inet6.....) is followed by ... net.inet6.ip6.auto_linklocal: 1->0 iwi0: iwi_cmd: cmd 6 not sent, busy iwi0: device configuration failed ... so it *could* be that the freeze has todo with the if_iwi driver; is there any known problem with the if_iwi driver in 6.2R or what can I do to help to debug it? Thx Google shows me a messages which is similar to my problem: http://groups.google.com/group/muc.lists.freebsd.mobile/msg/22865214c83cce32 from November 2006, maybe I'm hitting a solved issue? I did a search in the bug database and the only nearby hit is http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=i386/98964 I'll enable IWI_DEBUG (when I can grab the laptop from my wife :-)) and will see what I can do to help. The problem is serious, without a fix I can't update my own laptop to 6.2R (running 6.0R at the moment without such problems). matthias -- Matthias Apitz Manager Technical Support - OCLC PICA GmbH Gruenwalder Weg 28g - 82041 Oberhaching - Germany t +49-89-61308 351 - f +49-89-61308 399 - m +49-170-4527211 e - w http://www.oclcpica.org/ http://guru.UnixLand.de/ b http://gurucubano.blogspot.com/ OCLC PICA GmbH, Geschaeftsfuehrer: Christine Magin-Weeger, Norbert Weinberger Sitz der Gesellschaft: Oberhaching, HRB Muenchen: 113261 From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Mon May 21 16:24:16 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0F45A16A469 for ; Mon, 21 May 2007 16:24:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kerneljake@hotmail.com) Received: from bay0-omc1-s37.bay0.hotmail.com (bay0-omc1-s37.bay0.hotmail.com [65.54.246.109]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F029913C46C for ; Mon, 21 May 2007 16:24:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kerneljake@hotmail.com) Received: from hotmail.com ([65.55.141.108]) by bay0-omc1-s37.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.2668); Mon, 21 May 2007 09:24:15 -0700 Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Mon, 21 May 2007 09:24:15 -0700 Message-ID: Received: from 65.55.141.123 by by136fd.bay136.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Mon, 21 May 2007 16:24:14 GMT X-Originating-IP: [71.145.197.254] X-Originating-Email: [kerneljake@hotmail.com] X-Sender: kerneljake@hotmail.com In-Reply-To: <464CE18C.2070202@errno.com> From: "Kernel Jake" To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Date: Mon, 21 May 2007 11:24:14 -0500 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed X-OriginalArrivalTime: 21 May 2007 16:24:15.0622 (UTC) FILETIME=[7969CA60:01C79BC4] Subject: Re: ath 802.11g throughput in 6.2-RELEASE X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 21 May 2007 16:24:16 -0000 The problem was that my ath0 was acting as an access point instead of a client. However, there's another driver, sdh, which hooks into the FreeBSD sd/mmc implementation that I've been testing. It works well on the Ricoh chips, but not so well on my TI chip. Well... With modular ports we install some files in /usr/local/share/X11 and some in /usr/local/lib/X11. In this particular case, the server expects them to be in /usr/local/lib/X11. I'm not decided on whether we should move all in lib or modify default search path in server. Having them in lib mirrors previous location in /usr/X11R6 (where also mergebase script will move any custom app-defaults for example), but having such files in share feels a bit more intuitive... Interestingly we seem to face the opposite problem with the rgb file. My vote would be to put everything where the existing code expects it to be by default. But I'm not doing the work, so feel free to ignore me. :) Doug -- This .signature sanitized for your protection From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Fri May 25 22:48:16 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9BB6016A46B; Fri, 25 May 2007 22:48:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dejan.lesjak@ijs.si) Received: from mail.ijs.si (mail4.ijs.si [193.2.4.66]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4D7EE13C44C; Fri, 25 May 2007 22:48:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dejan.lesjak@ijs.si) Received: from localhost (localhost.ijs.si [127.0.0.1]) by mail.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6979B1929BB; Sat, 26 May 2007 00:48:15 +0200 (CEST) DKIM-Signature: v=0.5; a=rsa-sha1; c=relaxed/simple; d=ijs.si; s=ja-200610; t=1180133295; bh=OFPu+l92ncs3XxIMyFoYNIb4Yts=; h=X-Virus-Scanned: Received:Received:Received:Received:From:Organization:To:Subject: Date:User-Agent:Cc:References:In-Reply-To:MIME-Version: Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Content-Disposition: Message-Id; b=WcnLtk8WCM61tXudXvKnbnhD+2aXfqJm4WLHY6V46LhNsdMhJXRD 11Pg5swEaBU4v4VY8t3dnbtpitlAUoN54JNxfewpHF9VEXdrV4Bl7g0UjkI289U3Xep w6i7O90RW X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at ijs.si Received: from mail.ijs.si ([193.2.4.66]) by localhost (mail.ijs.si [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10026) with ESMTP id VEML-221ao+k; Sat, 26 May 2007 00:48:12 +0200 (CEST) Received: from edina.ijs.si (edina.ijs.si [193.2.4.3]) by mail.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 67E1719284A; Sat, 26 May 2007 00:48:12 +0200 (CEST) Received: from radagast.ijs.si (radagast.ijs.si [193.2.4.168]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by edina.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 56552511B8; Sat, 26 May 2007 00:48:12 +0200 (CEST) Received: from localhost.ijs.si (localhost.ijs.si [127.0.0.1]) by radagast.ijs.si (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id l4PMmBUO018349; Sat, 26 May 2007 00:48:12 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from dejan.lesjak@ijs.si) From: Dejan Lesjak Organization: IJS To: Doug Barton Date: Sat, 26 May 2007 00:48:09 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.6 References: <20070523071200.GA53716@freebsd.csie.nctu.edu.tw> <200705252333.53650.dejan.lesjak@ijs.si> <46575B14.8030902@FreeBSD.org> In-Reply-To: <46575B14.8030902@FreeBSD.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200705260048.11028.dejan.lesjak@ijs.si> Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org, Edward Shabotinsky , Ying-Chieh Liao , freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: xorg 7.2 with FreeBSD 6.2 on T41 keyboard failure X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 25 May 2007 22:48:16 -0000 On Friday 25 May 2007 23:54:28 Doug Barton wrote: > Dejan Lesjak wrote: > > On Friday 25 May 2007 23:21:32 Doug Barton wrote: > >> Ying-Chieh Liao wrote: > >>> ok, I got this fixed by defining a env var > >>> XKEYSYMDB=/usr/local/share/X11/XKeysymDB > >>> everything goes well now > >> > >> D'oh, should have read further in the thread, sorry. What do you mean? rgb.txt installs under /usr/local/lib/X11 where server expects to find it. Are you saying it searches for it in /usr/local/share/X11 or that you got it installed in there? > My vote would be to put everything where the existing code expects it > to be by default. When I was trying to diagnose the kb issue, I ran xorgcfg and noticed that the default was to look for it in share, not lib. Some rgb-related man page confirmed that, sorry I don't remember which one atm. >> My vote would be to put everything where the existing code expects it >> to be by default.
