Recently I read a thread about the saa7134 [1], and there was a statement that tuning is done in userspace. So this project might be interesting for some of you. The Linux tuner driver is implemented as a shared library in userspace, it interacts through an interface with the linux kernel in the backend of the kerneldrivers. In Linux a userspace daemon loads the shared tunerlibraries as soon as they're requested from kernelspace. Also the xc3028 got mentioned in the saa driverthread, it should be fairly easy to reuse the code [2] with BSD. The project is also dual licensed BSD/GPL. My Hauppauge PVR250 TV card works quite fine in a quite old main board with an Intel Pentium P5/166MHz. But on my newer main board (K7VMM+ bought in 2003) it feels so bad, that it either crashes the whole box (even if ACPI and cpu throttling is disabled) or it doesnt deliver any data after some minutes (I wrote a C program that detects this kind of stalling, but every time it happens I loose some seconds of the mpeg stream). I am pretty sure, that I could have better results with LINUX, and that my old box uses more electrical power in 24hrs than my newer box uses while I sleep (so that I would save some energy if I substitute my old PVR box by my newer box). Does somebody have an idea, how my newer box could become a PVR? Does somebody know a legal way to get german TV programs via the internet (some years ago I heard about IP multicast, but it was quite bad) (the biggest german telco and some german TV stations just offer their proprietary software, that needs a MS W*nd*ws license) (maybe some proxy/cache system)? Thanks. Bye Arne ____________________________________________________________________________________ Luggage? GPS? Comic books? Check out fitting gifts for grads at Yahoo! Some time ago I could build ffmpeg port (actually ffmpeg-devel) with external AMR library automaticaly by putting additional configure arguments into Makefile.local: === CONFIGURE_ARGS+= --enable-amr-nb \ --extra-ldflags=-L/usr/local/amr/lib \ --extra-cflags=-I/usr/local/amr/include === But in rev.1.65 of ports/multimedia/ffmpeg/Makefile string "include " that reads my Makefile.local was put upper in Makefile. And now Makefile overwrittes my CONFIGURE_ARGS, so I can't add my own parameters. What was the idea of this change? Could it be reverted? I'm running FreeBSD 6.2-p3 or 4, and an up to date ports tree, My ffmpeg is version 2007.07.12_3. During the process of conversion ffmpeg core dumps, being not a programmer i do not know what to do about it and would appreciate any suggestions. The specific cmdline i'm using is: ffmpeg \ -i ${VIDEO}.avi \ -pass 2 \ -target ntsc-dvd \ -aspect 4:3 \ ${VIDEO}.mpg The first time i ran this i got the msg: ffmpeg2pass-0.log: No such file or directory googling revealed to run first pass 1 then rerun with pass 2, this seemed like a long way, but i did it. When running with pass 1 that's when it core dumped. The log file created is empty. Output during the conversion process seems to indicate that this avi has no frames, audio, or video, but i know this to be incorrect, i ran a transcode on it for over a day got output and finally decided it was going to slow. I am open to suggestions, any additional information needed, i do have a copy of the .core file, and a typescript of the entire conversion process, anything else let me know. Thanks. Dave. This isn't really a direct answer to your problem, but if you want to convert avi to dvd, I recommend taking a look at the ports tovid, devede, and/or avidemux2. Provided that you don't require a command-line interface, I would go with devede or avidemux2. The tovid port seems to have a lot of problems with freebsd, but it can be used without the gui. Avidemux2 will do the two-pass encoding, whereas the others do not (yet) However, since the dvd bitrate is likely so much higher than your avi, a two-pass encoding is probably overkill. My transcodes always seem to end up far under the limit of a DVD5 -- but hey that could be operator error. I remember that Cameron Grant (?) had a document with some nice diagrams at about the time that the new PCI framework went in, but I can't find it, now, and I don't know how relevant it still is. I looked at the soundcard.h header last weekend, and started some exploratory coding, using the FreeBSD (as opposed to the OSS) IOCTLs, but wasn't having a whole lot of success. I suspect that part of my problem might be that my sound card, an M-Audio Delta1010 is not actually listed as being supported, but the envy24 driver does seem to recognize it, and it reports the expected number of channels and what-not. I'm confused by the fact that none of the pcm devices that I would expect show up in /dev, and the ones that I used to open when talking to the (then closed-source) oss driver aren't found. Any pointers or suggestions would be most helpful. If I can be of any assistance getting the driver to support the card, then I'll be happy to do that too, if I can. Cheers, -- Andrew From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Aug 23 06:04:35 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1C5E916A41B for ; Thu, 23 Aug 2007 06:04:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from arne_woerner@yahoo.com) Received: from web30310.mail.mud.yahoo.com (web30310.mail.mud.yahoo.com [209.191.69.72]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id BFAF713C45B for ; Thu, 23 Aug 2007 06:04:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from arne_woerner@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 613 invoked by uid 60001); 23 Aug 2007 06:04:34 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:Date:From:Subject:To:Cc:In-Reply-To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Message-ID; b=QYooEDvPyX2G0ajER4Rmb1uHPpugbqeS0fSc0bBLgK8JYhY/SrIqa9AcB9hvwGXp9kV6sXI0kKlqDe78wEylQ/s+YCP4fIYq3WksoI8t2yG5PNI28Pkbe4xbGwMFF1znM5MmVSnCi699JBrcdA3AmhKtUADzhCU0Zh/NdlixCRk=; X-YMail-OSG: V9bKi0wVM1mBl3hABm9mzHv.zEmHd6SmtFUCSL7zsl4EQSPBTbj44xg.stgk9.Ib_lAIMHLKkUgmq_DnUjhqmu.wtlLf8QUNuYmzgD_eJPjpGR7mh4RkJ6994.9wvg-- Received: from [84.141.72.221] by web30310.mail.mud.yahoo.com via HTTP; Wed, 22 Aug 2007 23:04:33 PDT Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2007 23:04:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Arne "Wörner" To: rick-freebsd@kiwi-computer.com In-Reply-To: <20070822201425.GA55489@keira.kiwi-computer.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Message-ID: <142572.236.qm@web30310.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ports/pvr250 / Hauppauge PVR250 on ECS K7VMM+ X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2007 06:04:35 -0000 --- "Rick C. I'm still core dumping, but i noticed two different things this time, full log is below. The first, was this time i got a floating point exception error code 6 i think it was before it coree. The second, and i don't know if this is related, but ffmpeg and mplayer/mencoder all think my system has multiple processors, when in fact it unfortunately only has one, an Athlon xp 2400 ghz in this machine. When i installed ffmpeg, same version as previous post, fully cvsupped ports tree, i used: #make WITH_FAAC=yes WITHOUT_IPV6=yes WITH_LAME=yes WITH_OGG=yes WITH_OPTIMIZED_CFLAGS=yes WITH_SWSCALER=yes WITH_X264=yes WITH_XVID=yes install clean Output below, it still looks like a missing codec, but ffmpeg does have mpeg support. If I use snd_emu10k1 sound works well, but if I type "make install" in /usr/ports/audio/oss soundcard is in digital output mode. How to configure OSS to analog output? Should I set something in C sources to force analog output ? Back in Feb 2005, Barry got one of these cards working for playback at least by enabling UAUDIO_MULTIPLE_ENDPOINTS and doing some voodoo with uadio_set() to turn off the mute it resets with. I would *really* like to know exactly what that voodoo is so that I can try it on my Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor - which works really nicely once the Windows driver has turned off mute :) Then the real challenge starts :) Trying to figure out how to get the video capture going.
