I went trough lots of trouble with skype due to the fact that OSS (the one from ports) had a problem with the duplex mode for my audio card. After portupgrade my troubles went a way but could hear the sound all the way. I had problem with recording. Let me suggest very dumb idea. Check first Skype preferences as I believe that the preference are by default /dev/dsp or /dev/dsp1. Try to change it into /dev/dsp4 or whatever you think is the correct device node for your head phones. The second thing. It looks to me that you get the tone (since you can hear ringing and that it dies out). I think I saw something like that on one of the mailing lists but I am not competent to talk about it. In any case I hope you fix the things and get the help from a serious person. It seems that this decision was a wise one (for my case). Since /dev/bktr* does not allow multiprocess access, if it was done through= =20 the video driver, it would be impossible to capture video->detect motion fr= om=20 one process and at the same time from an independent process activate some= =20 bits on the GPIO to trigger an alarm. I have the zoneminder capture daemon running on /dev/bktr0, while having a= =20 perl script reading shared memory to diagnose if we are in a new alarm stat= e=20 and calling the program to deal with GPIO via /dev/tuner0. Doing it from the capture daemon would be very hard to say the least. So for me it proved a good choice! > > > A little enlightment would be great! > > You want to look in /usr/include/dev/bktr/ioctl_bt848.h at: > #define BT848_GPIO_SET_EN _IOW('x', 72, int) /* set gpio_out_en > */ #define BT848_GPIO_GET_EN _IOR('x', 73, int) /* get > gpio_out_en */ #define BT848_GPIO_SET_DATA _IOW('x', 74, int) /* > set gpio_data */ #define BT848_GPIO_GET_DATA _IOR('x', 75, int) /* > get gpio_data */ > > SET_EN sets the input/output enable bits, GET_EN gets the current bits.. > Then you can use SET_DATA/GET_DATA to change/read the data on the bits... > > If you look at: > http://perforce.freebsd.org/fileViewer.cgi?FSPC=3D//depot/user/jmg/bktrau= /cap >ture/main.c&REV=3D27 > > You'll see how I manipulate the bits to reset the tuner... Before, I never had any trouble with sound since 5.2-RELEASE. Went straight on to 7-CURRENT (just a few days before the BETA branch), but the problem persists. It's an Acer Labs M5451 card (snd_t4dwave driver). Problem: playback stops after a few seconds with pcm0:play:dsp0.p1: play interrupt timeout, channel dead Verbose dmesg available here: http://demira.shopkeeper.de/~sascha/nx9005/misc/dmesg-7-verbose My CVS-fu isn't that good yet to track down all the files associated with each sound code change that I'd need to check out to single out a specific commit, so where would be a good start? Today, I portupgraded to skype-1.4.0.118. Now I only get: "Call Failed. Problem with Audio Playback". I killed artsd and increased hw.snd.maxautovchans and autovchans, but nothing helped. Is the new version of Skype supposed to work on 6.2-RELEASE? For comparison, I rebooted into my test install of 7.0-BETA1 and installed skype-1.4.0.118 there. Starting skype gave me: skype: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/librt.so.1: ELF file OS ABI invalid I solved that problem with a solution from emulation (about matlab): compat.linux.osrelease: 2.4.2 -> 2.4.20 Is this expected? (I guess this question should go on emulation.) Anyhow, sound works on 7.0-BETA1. Too bad the linux version still doesn't have video support so there isn't much of an incentive to upgrade, at least for me. cheers luigi From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 31 10:46:41 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1631916A41A; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 10:46:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from stefan.lambrev@moneybookers.com) Received: from blah.sun-fish.com (blah.sun-fish.com [217.18.249.150]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A863613C4A5; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 10:46:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from stefan.lambrev@moneybookers.com) Received: by blah.sun-fish.com (Postfix, from userid 1002) id 6D5D11B10EE8; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 11:36:04 +0100 (CET) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.3 (2007-08-08) on blah.cmotd.com X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-4.4 required=5.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,BAYES_00 autolearn=ham version=3.2.3 Received: from hater.haters.org (hater.cmotd.com [192.168.3.125]) by blah.sun-fish.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 18C671B10EA4; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 11:36:01 +0100 (CET) Message-ID: <47285A90.4040704@moneybookers.com> Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 12:36:00 +0200 From: Stefan Lambrev User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 (X11/20070918) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Jan Henrik Sylvester References: <47275AE3.4080204@janh.de> In-Reply-To: <47275AE3.4080204@janh.de> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1251; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV 0.91.2/4645/Wed Oct 31 08:55:58 2007 on blah.cmotd.com X-Virus-Status: Clean Cc: multimedia-list freebsd , beech@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Skype-1.4 on 6.2 (and 7.0-BETA1) X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 10:46:41 -0000 Hi Jan, Jan Henrik Sylvester wrote: > Before, I had skype-1.2.0.18_4 on 6.2, which worked. > > Today, I portupgraded to skype-1.4.0.118. > > Now I only get: "Call Failed. This requires a sysctl change to run. After upgrading, please do: "sysctl compat.linux.osrelease=2.6" from a terminal. Also add: "compat.linux.osrelease=2.6" to your /etc/sysctl.conf to make this change at boot time. Also, net/skype-devel has been removed from the ports tree. All skype users are encouraged to update to the latest version. I personally jumped for linux_base-f7 and linuxolator 2.6, I have installed and linux_dri and new skype seems to work perfect. No, Skype released an OSS version for *BSD and Solaris to use with linux compatibility. That's what is in the tree now. The main linux version is alsa. I did test this on 6-stable and didn't find any problems. However, skype is known not to play nicely with some sound cards. If I get enough reports, I'll put a legacy skype12 version back in the ports tree. It does look like skype saw the light and will keep supporting an oss version from here forward. Make sure you read UPDATING if you're planning on upgrading. BTW, is linux_base-f7 a requirement too ? Because on FreeBSD 6.2 fc4 is the default now and skype 1.4.X (from the port, of course) doesn't work for me, either with the default or with 2.6 value of compat.linux.osrelease. With 2.4.2 I get the same problem as Jan: "Call Failed. Problem with Audio Playback" for any attempt to call. With 2.6 skype simply didn't start with a message like "Can not setup LDT for thread something...". BTW, there is a different question that I have and maybe another part to my situation. My system is actually FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-p6 amd64, emphasis on amd64. So now you see what can add to my skype problems. And here's the question: our linuxolator emulates i386 Linux even on amd64, is there any reason that skype port has only i386 in the allowed archs ? The same question goes for any ports it depends on and that have the same restriction (if any). WITH_NVIDIA_GL is of course not applicable to amd64, bit otherwise, in my understanding, everything should. I did test this on 6.x with no problems, however Skype has a long history of not playing nicely with some sound cards. I am planning to put a skype12 legacy version in the tree after the freeze. My advice would be to stick with skype12 if you're having problems. > > BTW, there is a different question that I have and maybe another > part to my situation. Am I missing something > important ? Skype positively will not work on FreeBSD 64 bit. The forums are full of people screaming for a 64 bit linux version and the only success has been on ubuntu using their 32 bit compatibility layer. Even with that the results were less than optimal. I'm sure sooner later they will release one, but getting them to release a 64 bit oss version is uncertain. If someone is successful at getting Skype to work on amd64 I definitely would like to know. Ubuntu has a /usr/lib32 dir for this kind of problem. Maybe someone with some time and libmap.conf foo can look into it. -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beech Rintoul - FreeBSD Developer - beech@FreeBSD.org /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign | FreeBSD Since 4.x \ / - NO HTML/RTF in e-mail | http://www.freebsd.org X - NO Word docs in e-mail | Latest Release: / \ - http://www.FreeBSD.org/releases/6.2R/announce.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 31 21:20:50 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 53F2D16A419 for ; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 21:20:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from apircalabu@bitdefender.com) Received: from mail.bitdefender.com (ns.bitdefender.com [217.156.83.1]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7B92813C4AA for ; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 21:20:48 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from apircalabu@bitdefender.com) Received: (qmail 13200 invoked by uid 1010); 31 Oct 2007 14:19:40 +0200 Received: from ns.bitdefender.com (HELO apircalabu.dsd.ro) (217.156.83.1) by mail.bitdefender.com with AES256-SHA encrypted SMTP; 31 Oct 2007 14:19:40 +0200 Received: from deloo.dsd.ro (deloo.dsd.ro [10.10.15.198]) by apircalabu.dsd.ro (8.14.1/8.13.8) with ESMTP id l9VCJcNP016315; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 14:19:38 +0200 (EET) (envelope-from apircalabu@bitdefender.com) Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 12:19:38 +0000 From: Adi Pircalabu To: Beech Rintoul Message-ID: <20071031121938.0b9329a0@deloo.dsd.ro> In-Reply-To: <200710310002.45140.beech@freebsd.org> References: <47275AE3.4080204@janh.de> <20071031000817.B99525@xorpc.icir.org> <200710310002.45140.beech@freebsd.org> Organization: BitDefender X-Mailer: Claws Mail 3.0.2 (GTK+ 2.12.1; i386-portbld-freebsd6.2) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-BitDefender-Scanner-FreeBSD: Clean, Agent: BitDefender Milter 2.1.0 on apircalabu.dsd.ro, sigver: 7.15592 X-BitDefender-Spam-FreeBSD: No (34) X-BitDefender-SpamStamp-FreeBSD: v1, build 2.5.30, bayes score: 298(34), flags: [VALID_REPLY], total: 34 X-BitDefender-Scanner: Clean, Agent: BitDefender qmail 2.1.0 on mail.bitdefender.com, sigver: 7.15591 X-BitDefender-Spam: No (0) X-BitDefender-SpamStamp: v1, build 2.5.26, bayes score: 500, flags: [VALID_REPLY], total: 0 Cc: Jan Henrik Sylvester , Luigi Rizzo , multimedia-list freebsd Subject: Re: Skype-1.4 on 6.2 (and 7.0-BETA1) X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 21:20:50 -0000 On Wed, 31 Oct 2007 00:02:39 -0800 Beech Rintoul wrote: > On Tuesday 30 October 2007, Luigi Rizzo said: > > On Tue, Oct 30, 2007 at 05:25:07PM +0100, Jan Henrik Sylvester > wrote: > > > Before, I had skype-1.2.0.18_4 on 6.2, which worked. > > > > > > Today, I portupgraded to skype-1.4.0.118. > > > > > > Now I only get: "Call Failed. Your soundcard output looks ok. According to Skype this is supposed to be backwards compatible, but I'm starting to think not. Skype isn't noted for being very supportive outside the windows/linux world and the answer I got was "just upgrade to the latest linux distro" There are a couple of directions you can go. 1) Revert back to skype12 until I get this all sorted out. The skype 12 port can be found here: http://people.freebsd.org/~beech/source/skype12.tar.gz Just replace your net/skype with that and either portdowngrade or build/install by hand. 2) you could try updating your linux_base to fc6 and see if that solves the problem. I don't want to force 6.x users to update to fc6 or mark this broken until I find out for sure what the problem is. As I said earlier I am going to put skype12 back in the tree after the freeze. -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beech Rintoul - FreeBSD Developer - beech@FreeBSD.org /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign | FreeBSD Since 4.x \ / - NO HTML/RTF in e-mail | http://www.freebsd.org X - NO Word docs in e-mail | Latest Release: / \ - http://www.FreeBSD.org/releases/6.2R/announce.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 31 22:17:06 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 368BD16A418; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 22:17:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from stefan.lambrev@moneybookers.com) Received: from blah.sun-fish.com (blah.sun-fish.com [217.18.249.150]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A55F113C4AA; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 22:17:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from stefan.lambrev@moneybookers.com) Received: by blah.sun-fish.com (Postfix, from userid 1002) id 09EE41B10EED; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 18:28:35 +0100 (CET) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.3 (2007-08-08) on blah.cmotd.com X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-4.4 required=5.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,BAYES_00 autolearn=ham version=3.2.3 Received: from hater.haters.org (hater.cmotd.com [192.168.3.125]) by blah.sun-fish.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 68B901B10EEB; Wed, 31 Oct 2007 18:28:31 +0100 (CET) Message-ID: <4728BB3F.3080704@moneybookers.com> Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 19:28:31 +0200 From: Stefan Lambrev User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 (X11/20070918) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Andriy Gapon References: <1193801004.00822110.1193788802@10.7.7.3> <1193844187.00822511.1193831403@10.7.7.3> <4728AB7E.3000206@icyb.net.ua> In-Reply-To: <4728AB7E.3000206@icyb.net.ua> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1251; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV 0.91.2/4650/Wed Oct 31 16:43:03 2007 on blah.cmotd.com X-Virus-Status: Clean Cc: Jan Henrik Sylvester , multimedia-list freebsd , beech@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Skype-1.4 on 6.2 (and 7.0-BETA1) X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 22:17:06 -0000 Hi, Andriy Gapon wrote: > on 31/10/2007 12:36 Stefan Lambrev said the following: > >> Hi Jan, >> >> Jan Henrik Sylvester wrote: >> >>> Before, I had skype-1.2.0.18_4 on 6.2, which worked. >>> >>> Today, I portupgraded to skype-1.4.0.118. >>> >>> Now I only get: "Call Failed. I'm not sure about new skype and freebsd on amd64. What you can try is to change the Makefile of linux_dri (and skype) and to add amd64 to allowed archs. Also if you do not run something mission critical you can go for f7 and experiment for yourself. Last time when I checked linux-browsers and skype worked without problems on amd64, fc6, compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.16 So what stops you to experiment with latest things? :) If you didn't get skype working on amd64 you can report this to the maintainer, and ask him to make a legacy port skype12 or something like this. -- Best Wishes, Stefan Lambrev ICQ# 24134177 From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Nov 1 00:05:29 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 02B1416A420; That's exactly what I did for older skype port and everything worked very well for me. IMHO, as long as our linux emulation always emulates 32-bit Linux all ports that have only i386 in the allowed archs should also add amd64. So, it should be irrelevant if skype works or not on amd64 Linux. I am talking about FreeBSD amd64 underlying platform, not about 64-bit skype or 64-bit Linux. Insulated by our linux emulation layer skype should not see anything 64-bit. -- Andriy Gapon From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Nov 1 11:08:58 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2FA7716A41B for ; Thu, 1 Nov 2007 11:08:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from apircalabu@bitdefender.com) Received: from mail.bitdefender.com (ns.bitdefender.com [217.156.83.1]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1140313C4B6 for ; Thu, 1 Nov 2007 11:08:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from apircalabu@bitdefender.com) Received: (qmail 22083 invoked by uid 1010); 1 Nov 2007 13:08:24 +0200 Received: from ns.bitdefender.com (HELO apircalabu.dsd.ro) (217.156.83.1) by mail.bitdefender.com with AES256-SHA encrypted SMTP; 1 Nov 2007 13:08:23 +0200 Received: from deloo.dsd.ro (deloo.dsd.ro [10.10.15.198]) by apircalabu.dsd.ro (8.14.1/8.13.8) with ESMTP id lA1B8NnY075101; Thu, 1 Nov 2007 13:08:23 +0200 (EET) (envelope-from apircalabu@bitdefender.com) Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2007 11:08:22 +0000 From: Adi Pircalabu To: Beech Rintoul Message-ID: <20071101110822.1c3377a4@deloo.dsd.ro> In-Reply-To: <200710311343.29602.beech@freebsd.org> References: <47275AE3.4080204@janh.de> <200710310002.45140.beech@freebsd.org> <20071031121938.0b9329a0@deloo.dsd.ro> <200710311343.29602.beech@freebsd.org> Organization: BitDefender X-Mailer: Claws Mail 3.0.2 (GTK+ 2.12.1; i386-portbld-freebsd6.2) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-BitDefender-Scanner-FreeBSD: Clean, Agent: BitDefender Milter 2.1.0 on apircalabu.dsd.ro, sigver: 7.15608 X-BitDefender-Spam-FreeBSD: No (31) X-BitDefender-SpamStamp-FreeBSD: v1, build 2.5.30, bayes score: 349(31), flags: [VALID_REPLY], total: 31 X-BitDefender-Scanner: Clean, Agent: BitDefender qmail 2.1.0 on mail.bitdefender.com, sigver: 7.15609 X-BitDefender-Spam: No (0) X-BitDefender-SpamStamp: v1, build 2.5.26, bayes score: 500, flags: [VALID_REPLY], total: 0 Cc: Jan Henrik Sylvester , Luigi Rizzo , multimedia-list freebsd Subject: Re: Skype-1.4 on 6.2 (and 7.0-BETA1) X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2007 11:08:58 -0000 On Wed, 31 Oct 2007 13:43:18 -0800 Beech Rintoul wrote: > On Wednesday 31 October 2007, Adi Pircalabu said: [...] > you could try updating your linux_base to fc6 and see if that solves > the problem. Thanks for the port, if not I would never have tried it. ed From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Nov 1 20:39:02 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A835C16A41B; Thu, 1 Nov 2007 20:39:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mezz7@cox.net) Received: from eastrmmtai103.cox.net (eastrmmtai103.cox.net [68.230.240.10]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F0A2913C4A8; Thu, 1 Nov 2007 20:39:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mezz7@cox.net) Received: from eastrmimpo01.cox.net ([68.1.16.119]) by eastrmmtao105.cox.net (InterMail vM.7.08.02.01 201-2186-121-102-20070209) with ESMTP id <20071101180218.TSXC1395.eastrmmtao105.cox.net@eastrmimpo01.cox.net>; Thu, 1 Nov 2007 14:02:18 -0400 Received: from mezz.mezzweb.com ([24.255.149.218]) by eastrmimpo01.cox.net with bizsmtp id 7W281Y0074iy4EG0000000; Thu, 01 Nov 2007 14:02:08 -0400 To: "Martin Wilke" From: "Jeremy Messenger" Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; delsp=yes; charset=us-ascii MIME-Version: 1.0 References: <200711011723.lA1HNCmI028391@freefall.freebsd.org> <20071101182817.1bfadd74@miwi.homeunix.com> <20071101183007.0ffcf22f@miwi.homeunix.com> <20071101185026.416304c6@miwi.homeunix.com> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2007 13:06:59 -0500 Message-ID: In-Reply-To: <20071101185026.416304c6@miwi.homeunix.com> User-Agent: Opera Mail/9.24 (Linux) Cc: multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ports/117701: [patch] multimedia/libfame fix libtool TAG problem with GCC 4.2 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2007 20:39:02 -0000 On Thu, 01 Nov 2007 12:50:26 -0500, Martin Wilke wrote: > On Thu, 01 Nov 2007 12:50:05 -0500 > "Jeremy Messenger" wrote: > > |I would like to see his reply to marcus's email[1] first before we use > |this patch. Sound card is Intel HDA, video card is ATI, XOrg up to date, XFCE4, 4BSD sched. I've been reinstalling all the ports from scratch, except for diablo-jdk (which is from my 6.2 package), so i also have compat6x installed. A couple of time already, when I've left the computer alone for a while, i've come back to see the CPU pegged @ 100% on system process, load to over 24. top shows 2 skype processes, one running normally, the other running at something > 100% (once at least 300%+, the other something really high too). Killing this crazy skype proc fixes the issue right away. I definitely did NOT launch skype twice. It's happened with compat.linux.osrelease both set to 2.6 and 2.4.20. any ideas of what's going on? $ uname -a FreeBSD ayiin.xxx.com.au 7.0-BETA1 FreeBSD 7.0-BETA1 #1: Wed Oct 31 19:27:43 EST 2007 root@ayiin.xxx.com.au:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 $ sysctl -a | grep linux hw.snd.compat_linux_mmap: 0 compat.linux.oss_version: 198144 compat.linux.osrelease: 2.4.20 compat.linux.osname: Linux $ pkg_info | grep skype skype-1.4.0.118 P2P VoIP software /usr/home/betom $ pkg_info | grep -i linux linux-atk-1.9.1 Accessibility Toolkit, Linux/i386 binary linux-expat-1.95.8 Linux/i386 binary port of Expat XML-parsing library linux-fontconfig-2.2.3_7 Linux/i386 binary of Fontconfig linux-glib2-2.6.6 Version 2.X Linux/i386 binary port of GLib linux-gtk2-2.6.10 GTK+ library, version 2.X, Linux binary linux-hicolor-icon-theme-0.5_1 A high-color icon theme shell from the FreeDesktop project linux-jpeg-6b.34 RPM of the JPEG lib linux-libsigc-2.0.17 Callback Framework for C++ (linux version) linux-pango-1.8.1 Linux pango binary linux-png-1.2.8_2 RPM of the PNG lib linux-tiff-3.7.1 TIFF library, Linux/i386 binary linux-xorg-libs-6.8.2_5 Xorg libraries, linux binaries linux_base-fc-4_10 Base set of packages needed in Linux mode (for i386/amd64) linux_dri-7.0 Binary Linux DRI libraries for 3D hardware acceleration of v4l_compat-1.0.20060801 Video4Linux compatibility header I'm running /usr on a journaled partition : $ gjournal list Geom name: gjournal 1572859847 ID: 1572859847 Providers: 1. Not an answer to the question, but... There are two compat.linux.osrelease values that are maintained by linux kernel team for now. They are 2.4.2 (the default one) and 2.6.16 (is going to be a default for HEAD and RELENG_7 in the future). Other values are not _tested_/maintained/supported by the linux emulation team. Though that doesn't mean *someone* can't maintain/support those values. ;-) WBR -- Boris Samorodov (bsam) Research Engineer, http://www.ipt.ru Telephone & Internet SP FreeBSD committer, http://www.FreeBSD.org The Power To Serve From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Nov 2 12:14:02 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7787A16A418; Fri, 2 Nov 2007 12:14:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from alexander@leidinger.net) Received: from redbull.bpaserver.net (redbullneu.bpaserver.net [213.198.78.217]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 296E213C480; Fri, 2 Nov 2007 12:14:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from alexander@leidinger.net) Received: from outgoing.leidinger.net (p54A57184.dip.t-dialin.net [84.165.113.132]) by redbull.bpaserver.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 75C012E0EE; Fri, 2 Nov 2007 13:02:47 +0100 (CET) Received: from webmail.leidinger.net (webmail.Leidinger.net [192.168.1.102]) by outgoing.leidinger.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 04CB55B4800; Fri, 2 Nov 2007 13:02:45 +0100 (CET) Received: (from www@localhost) by webmail.leidinger.net (8.14.1/8.13.8/Submit) id lA2C2icf033847; Fri, 2 Nov 2007 13:02:44 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from Alexander@Leidinger.net) Received: from proxy.Leidinger.net (proxy.Leidinger.net [192.168.1.103]) by webmail.leidinger.net (Horde MIME library) with HTTP; Fri, 02 Nov 2007 13:02:44 +0100 Message-ID: <20071102130244.rceg0z1jrkc040so@webmail.leidinger.net> X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2007 13:02:44 +0100 From: Alexander Leidinger To: Boris Samorodov , beech@freebsd.org References: <1193801004.00822110.1193788802@10.7.7.3> <1193844187.00822511.1193831403@10.7.7.3> <4728AB7E.3000206@icyb.net.ua> <4728BB3F.3080704@moneybookers.com> <472995EB.3030809@icyb.net.ua> <19582372@srv.sem.ipt.ru> In-Reply-To: <19582372@srv.sem.ipt.ru> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; DelSp="Yes"; format="flowed" Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable User-Agent: Internet Messaging Program (IMP) H3 (4.1.4) / FreeBSD-7.0 X-BPAnet-MailScanner-Information: Please contact the ISP for more information X-BPAnet-MailScanner: Found to be clean X-BPAnet-MailScanner-SpamCheck: not spam, SpamAssassin (not cached, score=-13.504, required 8, BAYES_00 -15.00, MIME_QP_LONG_LINE 1.40, RDNS_DYNAMIC 0.10) X-BPAnet-MailScanner-From: alexander@leidinger.net X-Spam-Status: No Cc: multimedia-list freebsd , Andriy Gapon Subject: Re: Skype-1.4 on 6.2 (and 7.0-BETA1) X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2007 12:14:02 -0000 Quoting Boris Samorodov (from Thu, 01 Nov 2007 13:47:55 +0300)= : > On Thu, 01 Nov 2007 11:01:31 +0200 Andriy Gapon wrote: > >> Before I start, is it known that fc6 or f7 can work on 6.2 (not even >> RELENG_6) ? What Boris is trying to say is: it is a hard fact that everything =20 before RELENG_7/HEAD only runs with 2.4.2. You can try to set it so =20 something else, but it will not really work. 2.4.20 is 2.4+TLS. TLS in =20 the linuxulator is only available in RELENG_7 and HEAD. FC6 and F7 =20 depend upon TLS, so those are only usable on RELENG_7 and HEAD. If you use anything else than 2.4.2 and FC4 on RELENG_6 you do =20 something wrong. Beech, I haven't looked at the Skype 1.4 port, but it has to be marked =20 as for RELENG_7 or later only. You can use USE_LINUX=3Dfc6 (or f7) in =20 it, but I suggest to use a pre-everything:: target to print a message =20 that the _experimental_ setting compat.linux.osrelease=3D2.6.16 has to =20 be used and that the users shall read the UPDATING entry for the date =20 20070327. I was just following ports/UPDATING in this regards. BTW, I've had this happen again while simply going for a cup of tea - definitely under 5 minutes. i got it at the start of the cpu spike - i could see in the gkrellm2 cpu graph precisely where it jumped up. CPU was 159% on this extra process. I've had several lockups on the machine ... I havent been able to pin it down to skype.. BUT I've since rolled back to my skype 1.2 package, and I've been running with no lockups for 7 hours with no lockup (compared that to 4 lockups in the same time with skype 1.4. Again, it could be a number of things, i'm still trying to narrow it down...) I have it running on a 6.x box and haven't seen any of the problem you describe. I was a bit hasty in committing it to the main port, but having it as -devel seems appropriate given the fallout.
