(INDEX builds are not supported with partial or out-of-date ports collections -- in particular, if you are using cvsup, you must cvsup the "ports-all" collection, and have no "refuse" files.) If that is the case, then report the failure to ports@FreeBSD.org together with relevant details of your ports configuration (including FreeBSD version, your architecture, your environment, and your /etc/make.conf settings, especially compiler flags and WITH/WITHOUT settings). Note: the latest pre-generated version of INDEX may be fetched automatically with "make fetchindex". ******************************************************************** *** Error code 1 Stop in I suspect this is related to bin/125185, which involved csh improperly messing with global state in a vfork'ed subshell. Note that for both the present bug and 125185, the crash does not occur if csh is run with -F to use fork() instead of vfork(). nate@vulcan:/usr/home/nate$ csh %"`" Unmatched `. Segmentation fault: 11 (core dumped) nate@vulcan:/usr/home/nate$ csh -F %"`" Unmatched `. % I'll repeat my recommendation from 125185 that -F be made the default, so that vfork() is not used. I doubt that this bug is amd64 specific but don't have another machine to make sure at the moment. Probably it should be reclassified as "bin". It's also present in 7.0-RELEASE, by the way. -- Nate Eldredge neldredge@math.ucsd.edu From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 21 04:40:03 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E5249106569D for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 04:40:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D48158FC13 for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 04:40:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id m9L4e3ZA074249 for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 04:40:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id m9L4e3Y1074248; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 04:40:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 04:40:03 GMT Message-Id: <200810210440.m9L4e3Y1074248@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org From: Nate Eldredge Cc: Subject: Re: amd64/128259: "`" crashes csh X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Nate Eldredge List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 04:40:04 -0000 The following reply was made to PR amd64/128259; it has been noted by GNATS. It's also present in 7.0-RELEASE, by the way. -- Nate Eldredge neldredge@math.ucsd.edu From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 21 08:42:39 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2D11E1065670 for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 08:42:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from peterjeremy@optushome.com.au) Received: from mail16.syd.optusnet.com.au (mail16.syd.optusnet.com.au [211.29.132.197]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B2B728FC08 for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 08:42:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from peterjeremy@optushome.com.au) Received: from server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (c122-106-215-175.belrs3.nsw.optusnet.com.au [122.106.215.175]) by mail16.syd.optusnet.com.au (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id m9L8gZ5B028816 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:42:36 +1100 X-Bogosity: Ham, spamicity=0.000000 Received: from server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (localhost.vk2pj.dyndns.org [127.0.0.1]) by server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id m9L8gZkW064577; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:42:35 +1100 (EST) (envelope-from peter@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id m9L8gZQt064576; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:42:35 +1100 (EST) (envelope-from peter) Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:42:35 +1100 From: Peter Jeremy To: Nate Eldredge Message-ID: <20081021084235.GN25796@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> References: <200810210222.m9L2MrN0078706@www.freebsd.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="LG0Ll82vYr46+VA1" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: X-PGP-Key: http://members.optusnet.com.au/peterjeremy/pubkey.asc User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.18 (2008-05-17) Cc: freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org, freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: amd64/128259: "`" crashes csh X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 08:42:39 -0000 --LG0Ll82vYr46+VA1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On 2008-Oct-20 21:16:09 -0700, Nate Eldredge wrot= e: >I doubt that this bug is amd64 specific but don't have another machine to= =20 >make sure at the moment. It works with a modified QEMU (QEMU does not support S3) but real boxes that I have don't seem to like it (e.g., broken BIOSes). If there is someone interested in finishing it off or giving it a try, the patch is here: http://people.freebsd.org/~jkim/amd64_suspend.diff Please note this patch is heavily inspired by Takanori Watanabe's SMP patch for i386: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?200805131125.m4DBPu1q092741 and large portion is shamlessly stolen from Peter Wemm's AP boot code for amd64. ;-) Cheers, Jung-uk Kim From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 21 19:40:03 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C0F4D1065673 for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:40:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B00178FC1B for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:40:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id m9LJe3Kf093078 for ; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:40:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id m9LJe3Sp093077; Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:40:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:40:03 GMT Message-Id: <200810211940.m9LJe3Sp093077@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org From: Peter Jeremy Cc: Subject: Re: amd64/128259: "`" crashes csh X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Peter Jeremy List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 19:40:03 -0000 The following reply was made to PR amd64/128259; it has been noted by GNATS. My motherboard has a built-in LED display wired up to port 0x80, and it flashes various numbers as it passes different stages of booting. Useful for detecting various types of failure, nicer than the beep codes. It can also be handy for kernel debugging, when you can't use printf. A very thoughtful feature on the motherboard designer's part. Btw, I'm interested to test the patch, and I'll do so when I have a chance. This is a feature I've been awaiting for some time. -- Nate Eldredge neldredge@math.ucsd.edu From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 24 01:42:53 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: amd64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 24EF31065670;
