While there, enable PAM by default. PLEASE do not reject this unless you have a good technical reason to do so. PAM is a stable and standard component of FreeBSD base system since years. It is unconditionally enabled in x11/gdm. Also, remove kerberos option, it's misleading and deprecated. More than likely any user of Kerberos will prefer to do it through PAM. Sorry if I am sending this to the wrong place... I noticed this is the address of the port maintainer for ORBit2, and so I assume that means its okay to send persisting installation errors. I have updated the port tree with both "ports-all" and "src-all". I am running FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE on an AMD64 processor. "make install" encounters errors in the code: orbit-idl-driver.c:43 error: 'G_GNUC_PRETTY_FUNCTION' undeclared (first use of this function) Through google I discovered that if I remove the following line from a bunch of the Makefiles the error goes away, however then further errors come up. DISABLE_DEPRECATED_CFLAGS = -DG_DISABLE_DEPRECATED But removing these lines from complaining directories causes: /libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libglib-2.0.so.600" not found Is there an easy solution to these problems? Though I'm not sure who > is telling gamin to monitor this drive. I recently faced a similar issue - unable to unmount either of an msdosfs ata/hdd partition and an msdosfs usb/flash drive. I was able to unmount both after closing a nautilus browser window that was open on the Gnome desktop. I'm not sure why gam_server would still have been monitoring any files opened on those two mounts but from memory fstat showed a number of them. No folder from either of the two mounts was selected in the nautilus browser, although they likely had been earlier. Currently this means that after every login one have to enter key for every keyring (usually just 1). Most linux distributions automate this with a help of pam_keyring module. This system is well described here: http://live.gnome.org/GnomeKeyring/Pam Fortunately all necessary ingredients are already present in the system, they just need proper configuration. For this to work in a plug-and-play manner I propose following changes: 1. Move /etc/pam.d/gdm from base system to x11/gdm port 2. Add KEYRING option (enabled by default) to x11/gdm that: (1) Adds runtime dependency on security/gnome-keyring (2) Appends/uncomments pam_keyring lines in pam.d/gdm so it looks like this (maybe it makes more sense to just "include system" ?): === gdm.in (to be installed as /usr/local/etc/pam.d/gdm) === auth required pam_unix.so no_warn try_first_pass auth optional %%LOCALBASE%%/lib/security/pam_gnome_keyring.so account required pam_nologin.so account required pam_unix.so session required pam_permit.so session optional %%LOCALBASE%%/lib/security/pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start === 8< === I can provide patches if gnome@ agrees to the changes. This means that from within gnome, you are not able to set it up to sync with a time server, or even manually change the time and date. This was working, though with some of the updates to the ports collection I am not exactly sure when it stopped working. I have used cvsup to update the ports collection and have also used the standard-supfile to update the src list (leaving it at src-all). I have removed gnome by: pkg_deinstall -R x11/gnome2 and also by using: pkg_deinstall -Rf x11/gnome2 I have used pkgdb -F to fix any inconsistancies. I have deleted the .gconf .gconfd .gnome2 .gnome2_private directories. No matter what I have tried the issue still remains. Is there something else I need to delete in order to purge all of gnome, and start totally from scratch? I have followed ALL of the faq for de-installing gnome. What I want is to be able to adjust the time and date from within gnome as you are meant to be able to. Yes I am fully aware of the command line options. This is a work around and NOT a fix. I checked my system, and there is no firefox3-config, but back when I had firefox2 installed, there was a firefox-config on my system. Because Firefox 3 does not install this file and *.pc (pkg-config files) anymore. Everytime when I have tried to search for answer and reason why they changed it. I end up hit the wall. Perhaps, they asked in the wrong place. Also it's hard to find a good keyword to search in google (Mozilla is using google search for their website/newsgroups). If you can find it, I would love to know about it. Everything what jong357 (forum user) knows are same what I know in our search, but he has pointed that there is answer in mailing list that I can't find. http://forums-test.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=3559635 I have told my team about that somehow I think that Mozilla developers want us to start to use xulrunner for SDK/build stuff rather than on Firefox, Seamonkey and etc. I think that xulrunner 1.9 does install *.pc files and probably xulrunner-config too. -- While I am here, our firefox3 port still need some improvements such as don't use lib/browser_plugins anymore, because firefox3 can't use firefox2 plugins or it crashes. I am thinking about maybe use www/linux-mplayer-plugin/Makefile.npapi. Then create new directories like lib/npapi/symlinks/gecko18 and lib/npapi/symlinks/lib/gecko19. Other more improvements like clean up in bsd.gecko.mk and gecko ports. I am slowing and lacking motivative, because I dislike any Mozilla products and my box is slow for build/install test. I am being patient to work with these, so I would love someone (that actually like Mozilla product and have motivative) to jump in and take over. ;-) Cheers, Mezz > Thanks, > Naram Qashat -- mezz7@cox.net - mezz@FreeBSD.org FreeBSD GNOME Team http://www.FreeBSD.org/gnome/ - gnome@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-gnome@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jul 19 05:56:13 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: gnome@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0ECCE1065676 for ; Sat, 19 Jul 2008 05:56:13 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cyberbotx@cyberbotx.com) Received: from QMTA06.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net (qmta06.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net [76.96.30.56]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D85DD8FC19 for ; Sat, 19 Jul 2008 05:56:12 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cyberbotx@cyberbotx.com) Received: from OMTA14.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net ([76.96.30.60]) by QMTA06.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net with comcast id rhjE1Z00E1HpZEsA6hwCsH; Sat, 19 Jul 2008 05:56:12 +0000 Received: from kirby.cyberbotx.com ([68.43.195.82]) by OMTA14.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net with comcast id rhwA1Z0011n8LeU8ahwBJg; Sat, 19 Jul 2008 05:56:12 +0000 X-Authority-Analysis: v=1.0 c=1 a=i4WmcpehmncA:10 a=DvM4RJc-tF8A:10 a=hHZn-TPoAAAA:8 a=7mOBRU54AAAA:8 a=pXP92DxaAAAA:8 a=tha1CTlhWfB5hpUPmSUA:9 a=SVXcA6sAZQOT8tvzCaAA:9 a=4k7wlMMn9boIQV2x4r8A:7 a=R4zpBgcux_8CQYj3_SHEDjBwvNQA:4 a=fN6sl5bl_X4A:10 a=QMgMR9M9BAsA:10 Message-ID: <488181F9.9020902@cyberbotx.com> Date: Sat, 19 Jul 2008 01:56:09 -0400 From: Naram Qashat User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (X11/20080606) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Jeremy Messenger References: <4880CD7A.9050409@cyberbotx.com> In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: gnome@freebsd.org, ports@freebsd.org Subject: Re: firefox3 port missing firefox-config or firefox3-config X-BeenThere: freebsd-gnome@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: GNOME for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 19 Jul 2008 05:56:13 -0000 Jeremy Messenger wrote: > On Fri, 18 Jul 2008 12:06:02 -0500, Naram Qashat > wrote: > >> I was trying to modify the VLC port to enable the Firefox plugin, but >> when I added firefox3 to the list of USE_GECKO and tried to build the >> port, it complained saying it couldn't find firefox3-config. I did a little digging on my own, and found two more threads talking about this: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-626153-highlight-.html http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/firefox-3.0-email-links-no-thunderbird-650845/page2.html Both mention the same thing, that xulrunner should be used to get the correct Mozilla configuration files. I also just tried to build vlc after manually editing it's Makefile to have xulrunner at the beginning of the WANT_GECKO line and removing the .include to bsd.gecko.mk, and it found xulrunner-config after installing xulrunner, so I assume that's how it should be done from now on. I think this means that using anything but xulrunner for WANT_GECKO or USE_GECKO won't work as planned anymore. Yeah, it's what I thought so. It means that we will need to update xulrunner to 1.9 or repocopy to xulrunner19. I personal think that we just should update it to 1.9 instead of xulrunner19. Because, in past, Mozilla folks don't take good care of xulrunner as it always get out of date compare to other gecko tarballs. Maybe it's changed now, hopeful. If it does, then I would love to get all ports and firefox3 to depend on xulrunner 1.9. But I think that we will need to ask Mozilla folks again for if it's ok to do that with firefox3 for trademark stuff[1] agreement. Yeah, most of it will be dead when all of ports move to xulrunner 1.9. We still can use USE_GECKO by simple 'yes' instead of 'firefox2 thunderbird etc'.
