From the BUGS section of the rtsol(8) man page: The IPv6 autoconfiguration specification assumes a single-interface host. You may see kernel error messages if you try to autoconfigure a host with multiple interfaces. Also, it seems contradictory for rtsold to accept multiple interface arguments. Having, said that, I believe the is a completely unnecessary hack. You should convert your script to an rc.d script. Then, you don't have to use the kludge of specifying a "bogus" network interface to get the rc(8) system to run your scripts for you. In addition, I also made the 'fast' prefix imply 'quiet'. Looks fine. Certainly addresses my concerns which were mainly centered around new users and any case of "well I installed it and then got all these errors". Thanks! Ceri --=20 That must be wonderful! That way people can experiment with this at their leisure, and we can gradually get a feel for what should and should not be "hidden" behind the quiet knob. I think eventually this will become the default, I'd just like us to ease into the transition in a way that we can modify more easily than having to go back and re-edit all the scripts that are affected. Hi Doug, I'm not sure what you mean. Currently, the only thing behind the quiet knob is the message telling you the service wasn't started (or whatever) and that you need to either enable it in rc.conf(5) or use the 'one' prefix. It *has* to be there because otherwise you will get a lot of spammage every time you boot, run a script like /etc/netstart or devd(8) automatically runs a script. As for the support for this feature. Quite a few people emailed their support for it when I backed out the initial version. As for what should be behind the quiet knob: I'm currently leaning towards anything you would like to see in an interactive session. Anyways, I should have a few patches for that in a little bit. Cheers. -- Mike Makonnen | GPG-KEY: http://people.freebsd.org/~mtm/mtm.asc mmakonnen @ gmail.com | AC7B 5672 2D11 F4D0 EBF8 5279 5359 2B82 7CD4 1F55 mtm @ FreeBSD.Org | FreeBSD - http://www.freebsd.org From owner-freebsd-rc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 26 17:55:37 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-rc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0321C16A41B; Sat, 26 Jan 2008 17:55:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from brooks@lor.one-eyed-alien.net) Received: from lor.one-eyed-alien.net (cl-162.ewr-01.us.sixxs.net [IPv6:2001:4830:1200:a1::2]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8CD4D13C447; Sat, 26 Jan 2008 17:55:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from brooks@lor.one-eyed-alien.net) Received: from lor.one-eyed-alien.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by lor.one-eyed-alien.net (8.14.1/8.13.8) with ESMTP id m0QHtZb4052636; Sat, 26 Jan 2008 11:55:35 -0600 (CST) (envelope-from brooks@lor.one-eyed-alien.net) Received: (from brooks@localhost) by lor.one-eyed-alien.net (8.14.1/8.13.8/Submit) id m0QHtZ0k052635; Sat, 26 Jan 2008 11:55:35 -0600 (CST) (envelope-from brooks) Date: Sat, 26 Jan 2008 11:55:35 -0600 From: Brooks Davis To: Doug Barton Message-ID: <20080126175535.GA52539@lor.one-eyed-alien.net> References: <200801260814.m0Q8EDeT053102@freefall.freebsd.org> <479B5D72.2010706@FreeBSD.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <479B5D72.2010706@FreeBSD.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.16 (2007-06-09) X-Greylist: Sender IP whitelisted, not delayed by milter-greylist-3.0 (lor.one-eyed-alien.net [127.0.0.1]); Sat, 26 Jan 2008 11:55:35 -0600 (CST) Cc: freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org, freebsd-rc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: conf/119995: [patch] New rc.d script ddb to load ddb scripts from /etc/ddb.conf X-BeenThere: freebsd-rc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussion related to /etc/rc.d design and implementation." I think I'd like to see something along these lines in the base, as offering tools to help autonatically configure DDB scripting isn't all that different from offering tools to configure firewalls, run user scripts, etc. However, I wonder if we should consider doing it slightly differently than proposed. One of the things I like about the way we do ipfw rulesets is that we allow a filename to be specified that contains a series of commands to pass to the ipfw command-line tool, rather than a file that contains a list of rules. This means that as the ipfw tool becomes more capable, the configuration file supports those changes in a natural way. I.e., rather than having ddb.conf contain: scriptname="foo bar baz" It should perhaps instead contain: script scriptname="foo bar baz" We will need to teach ddb(8) to do this in a similar manner to ipfw(8). I think I'd like to see something along these lines in the base, as offering tools to help autonatically configure DDB scripting isn't all that different from offering tools to configure firewalls, run user scripts, etc. No one wants to debug crash dumps. :) But seriously folks, I said I have no objection if this goes in, I just think we're heading in a dangerous direction when we start throwing everything in that _could_ go in. I want to be sure that we have a compelling reason that it _should_ go in first. If you think we have one, go for it. FWIW I think Robert's on the right track in terms of making the functionality more flexible. No need to include me on the followup discussions though, I'll watch this one on the list.
