Manual correction of this is well-known: 'TMPDIR=/var/tmp make install clean' works perfectly. But for automated upgrades, for example, via 'portupgrade -a' it is better if we will be able to pass TMPDIR from make.conf. But this isn't possible with the current port Makefile contents, they should be modified to include TMPDIR to the build tools environment. >How-To-Repeat: Mount /tmp with option 'noexec' and try to build the port. It will fail on the configure stage. >Fix: The following patch teaches Makefile to include TMPDIR to the build tools environment. I had tested it on my installation and it works perfectly for me. --- pass-TMPDIR.diff begins here --- >From 706d969f0f516968733038d790143c35d378a2a0 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Eygene Ryabinkin Date: Sun, 8 Mar 2009 15:15:01 +0300 ffmpeg wants to put executables to the $TMPDIR or /tmp (the latter is the default). If I run /tmp with noexec, then configure whines and refuses to work, so port build fails. Doing 'TMPDIR=/var/tmp make install clean' is fine, but I want to update ports via 'portupgrade -a', so the most appropriate place to put TMPDIR is /etc/make.conf. Unfortunately, this doesn't work as-is: some support from the port itself is needed and it was added in this commit. In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 5.x/6.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: multimedia/dirac-reference broken because: bad plist build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=dirac-reference If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. The author decided to release a new version, 1.0.19. An advantage of this version is that it also works with a *released* version of libvorbis, so we don't need the awful regexes anymore. I often work with libsndfile, because I am also the author and port maintainer of audio/herrie, which depends on libsndfile. I track the libsndfile lists once in a while, so I think I've got a good understanding of what happens within the libsndfile project. Yesterday, I tried audacious (+ -plugins) - as I need a multimedia player, which can play my CD-s and my other audio files. Interesting: I can play midis (timidity-plugin), flacs - but not remote or local mp3-s / ogg-s. On the console, I could get only: SNDCTL_DSP_FORMAT ioctl failed: Operation not supported by device message, and heard some noise from the speakers. That machine has 7-STABLE (from yesterday, and an up-to-date potrs-tree. Can anybody help?
