The USB_VERBOSE option should be included in GENERIC. Otherwise, any USB device whose driver follows the proper coding convention -- that is, placing vendor and product information in /sys/usb/usbdevs rather than in the driver itself -- will not print the name of the vendor or device. The failure to print the name has nothing to do with the malfunction in the device, which may be due to overruns. (The buffer size currently allowed in the driver -- only 4K -- is extremely small.) --Brett Glass From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Nov 29 13:30:05 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 776DA1065672 for ; Sun, 29 Nov 2009 13:30:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 64D8D8FC16 for ; Sun, 29 Nov 2009 13:30:05 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nATDU5T2086877 for ; Sun, 29 Nov 2009 13:30:05 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nATDU5G0086874; Sun, 29 Nov 2009 13:30:05 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Sun, 29 Nov 2009 13:30:05 GMT Message-Id: <200911291330.nATDU5G0086874@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org From: "Momchil Ivanov" Cc: Subject: Re: usb/139598: [umass] CAM reports "xptioctl: put "device pass" in your kernel config file" even when already present X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Momchil Ivanov List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 29 Nov 2009 13:30:05 -0000 The following reply was made to PR usb/139598; it has been noted by GNATS. Also, the link light on the interface does not work, I think the large number of interrupts has nothing to do with axe(4). Almost all USB ethernet controllers are poorly designed to save cost so you can't expect reasonable performance from it and you should have fast CPU to copy received frames in a buffer. It's worse than rl(4) controllers. Datasheet may have an entry to control LEDs. Basically I've got an audio device that neither plays nor records. Fantastic. It played fine in 7.2-RELEASE. I think this may be a similar issue to the one reported originally on this list in May, here: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-usb/2009-May/006850.html . That problem was resolved with a patch that was later rescinded as it broke other things. I'm hoping for better luck. Any ideas? Following the suggestions in that thread, I've captured the dmesg output with sysctl hw.usb.uaudio.debug=15, the uaudio related sysctls, and the output of usbconfig -u 6 -a 2 dump_curr_config_desc. I've put them here: http://paste2.org/p/539116 http://paste2.org/p/539119 http://paste2.org/p/539120 In related news, the OSS 4.2 port in the ports tree doesn't seem to build the oss_usb module. Any ideas what's going on with this? I'd be interested to try it and see if I got better results. Thanks! Are there any that are better? I have several machines here that I will be using as embedded systems. They have one Ethernet interface each, and I need some of them to have two. The only other non-USB ports on these machines are video and CompactFlash. I've thought about using VLAN tagging and VLAN switch to double up the Ethernet port, but this is quite expensive. So, I need the best USB Ethernet I can get. I chose the AX88772A because it seems to be a better solution than the Davicom DM9601 (which is USB 1.0 only). The AX88178 has more buffer space, but I am having trouble finding reasonably priced adapters that use it. --Brett Glass From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Nov 30 00:31:05 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AD866106566B for ; Mon, 30 Nov 2009 00:31:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from pyunyh@gmail.com) Received: from qw-out-2122.google.com (qw-out-2122.google.com [74.125.92.24]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5D0948FC0A for ; Mon, 30 Nov 2009 00:31:05 +0000 (UTC) Received: by qw-out-2122.google.com with SMTP id 9so730275qwb.7 for ; Sun, 29 Nov 2009 16:31:04 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:received:from:date:to:cc :subject:message-id:reply-to:references:mime-version:content-type :content-disposition:in-reply-to:user-agent; bh=tPoEqb7XylPuNsdtdGNEp1FqgYFlrLluEGpVyFWBsQU=; b=b+AN8fjqYLPizrUZ4pARm1iDh6W1RRJIAhhAM9mg3WAAeuwjiZXZAjY/3ssxeclwJp xUKRU531+QMgDUHZnopBdg767Wyx1ydBfgAzDyUxDlioWmCh/3i1cAcYZ+BqenS4YeG8 KmfN8dgW4sGMM2AePEs+XB89lernkzXJhqJ10= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=from:date:to:cc:subject:message-id:reply-to:references:mime-version :content-type:content-disposition:in-reply-to:user-agent; b=CGkKiC1o/bRU6ttnFzScX6Rh2l4feLNkWnh5Rbkz/JaEJfcAklXUhZDHlO8MChYx4o 2CGsNHHnvetVn8Cgex8ITIx9L9j/CS+05DR+7SM5UYkPEf6KNF4DtHp4hXzN5ASa7u/Q MeN+5GuGTE/ovt9hlhi4Lnztlc/r8v8JlXc+A= Received: by 10.224.36.161 with SMTP id t33mr1753755qad.346.1259541064453; Sun, 29 Nov 2009 16:31:04 -0800 (PST) Received: from pyunyh@gmail.com ([174.35.1.224]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPS id 26sm1241464qwa.30.2009.11.29.16.31.02 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=RC4-MD5); Sun, 29 Nov 2009 16:31:03 -0800 (PST) Received: by pyunyh@gmail.com (sSMTP sendmail emulation); Sun, 29 Nov 2009 16:30:37 -0800 From: Pyun YongHyeon Date: Sun, 29 Nov 2009 16:30:37 -0800 To: Brett Glass Message-ID: <20091130003037.GA1123@michelle.cdnetworks.com> References: <200911290250.nAT2o3L7086305@freefall.freebsd.org> <20091129213831.GB1128@michelle.cdnetworks.com> <200911300004.RAA15864@lariat.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <200911300004.RAA15864@lariat.net> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.3i Cc: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Subject: Re: usb/140883: [axe] USB gigabit ethernet hangs after short period of traffic X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: pyunyh@gmail.com List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 30 Nov 2009 00:31:05 -0000 On Sun, Nov 29, 2009 at 04:51:09PM -0700, Brett Glass wrote: > At 02:38 PM 11/29/2009, Pyun YongHyeon wrote: > > >I'm not sure buffer size allowed in driver is 4K. Date: Tue, 1 Dec 2009 15:56:22 +0000 I manage to keep the USB ports usable by building and loading all USB components as modules: /boot/loader.conf: usb_load="YES" ehci_load="YES" uhci_load="YES" umass_load="YES" ukbd_load="YES" ums_load="YES" uhid_load="YES" ucom_load="YES" umct_load="YES" uplcom_load="YES" ...and unloading uhci(4) in /etc/rc.suspend: kldunload uhci ...then reloading uhci(4) in /etc/rc.resume: kldload uhci Only uhci(4) should be unloaded/reloaded, as any other USB component being unloaded/reloaded seems to put a kink in things. As of a few hours testing, this is functional as a work-around. Date: Wed, 02 Dec 2009 09:50:55 +0000 I have seen a similar issue on my x61s Thinkpad while following the 8.0x releases. The behaviour has changed throughout the releases. On my latest test (on FreeBSD 8.0-PRERELEASE #2: i386), I found this issue only occurs if I suspend the system while no usb modules are loaded. On a resume, if one then loads the usb modules (such as umass ehci uhci), usb does not work. My current workaround is to ensure I load the modules I need before the first suspend. A resume in this case does keep the usb ports 'active'. I'll report back if i notice any change in 8.0-Release. With a FreeBSD 7.1 PAE-enabled kernel, initialization of some of the USB buses fails. From an external perspective, this results in the rear USB port being non-functional, while the two front USB ports work fine. For some reason, though, when booting the same PAE kernel from a CD none of the USB ports function. It may be worth noting that we have four other hardware platforms (different IBM, HP, and OEM Intel) that do not exhibit this behavior (ie. PAE and USB seem okay with each other). In previous posting ( http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?4B0D14CB.1010000 ) I included output of usbdevs and boot log when running the PAE-enabled kernel. Note the "root hub error" messages in boot log. Below I'll repeat the same info when running a non-PAE kernel. Any thoughts as to what the story is here... and suggestions for resolution? Thanks in advance. (We expect in next few days to test with 8.0 for comparison, but at this point much prefer to see matter resolved in 7.x) [root@dmz55 /usr/home/muck]# usbdevs -v Controller /dev/usb0: addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 addr 2: low speed, power 100 mA, config 1, Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000(0x00dd), Microsoft(0x045e), rev 1.73 Controller /dev/usb1: addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered Controller /dev/usb2: addr 1: high speed, self powered, config 1, EHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered port 3 powered port 4 powered port 5 powered port 6 powered Controller /dev/usb3: addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 addr 2: full speed, power 100 mA, config 1, RNDIS/CDC ETHER(0x4010), IBM(0x04b3), rev 2.15 Controller /dev/usb4: addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered Controller /dev/usb5: addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered Controller /dev/usb6: addr 1: high speed, self powered, config 1, EHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 addr 2: high speed, power 2 mA, config 2, IBM Composite Device-0(0x4012), IBM(0x04b3), rev 0.00 port 2 powered port 3 powered port 4 powered port 5 powered port 6 addr 3: high speed, power 450 mA, config 1, product 0x1a00(0x1a00), vendor 0x2001(0x2001), rev 10.01 Copyright (c) 1992-2009 The FreeBSD Project. (BTW: System is AMD X2 with Nvidia chip-set and i386 kernel.) In my case, hw.usb.debug=3D6 makes the drive work at some 4MB/s for any amount of data transfered, while hw.usb.debug=3D5 (and an ylower value) lets the drive pause for about 1 Minute per 100MB transfered. I wanted to test whether short delays inserted in the places with DPRINTFN(6, ...) make a difference, but will not get to it before the weekend. My mouse (Logitech) and keyboard (Cherry) are connect via an ATEN CS-1764 KVM-Switch to the rear USB-ports. This work very well as long as I connect the KVM-Switch to one (the "good" port) of the four rear ports during coldstart. Then I also may change the port on the fly without any problem. The USB subsystem is disconnecting and reconnecting like a charm. If I use on of the other ports during I get the following errors on all but the "good" port: usb_alloc_device:1586: set address 2 failed (USB_ERR_TIMEOUT, ignored) usb_alloc_device:1624: getting device descriptor at addr 2 failed, USB_ERR_TIMEOUT! usbd_req_re_enumerate:1539: addr=2, set address failed! (USB_ERR_TIMEOUT, ignored) usbd_req_re_enumerate:1553: getting device descriptor at addr 2 failed, USB_ERR_TIMEOUT! ugen0.2: <(null)> at usbus0 (disconnected) I changed the BIOS from A6 (A04??) to A08 just before I installed 8.0-RELEASE. (I need it because of the AMD 605e CPU) and there is the following line in the BIOS description: "2.to solve the problem that USB1 fails to function when a USB keyboard or mouse device connected to it." If I could help with any test I will do so. It is only a testbox. /gT/ From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Dec 2 22:30:40 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C28B0106566C for ; Wed, 2 Dec 2009 22:30:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@c2i.net) Received: from swip.net (mailfe01.swip.net [212.247.154.1]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E493C8FC1E for ; Wed, 2 Dec 2009 22:30:39 +0000 (UTC) X-Cloudmark-Score: 0.000000 [] X-Cloudmark-Analysis: v=1.0 c=1 a=orn0k_vJg10A:10 a=MnI1ikcADjEx7bvsp0jZvQ==:17 a=6I5d2MoRAAAA:8 a=AOkDiIZfAAAA:8 a=LqyNZ4TF28JLn24hQtwA:9 a=bkB3cte4ty570KvP38YA:7 a=FbEtzHmdL0Z5r2S-B9hDw2uj7vMA:4 a=A3BtqJPjifmImBX6:21 a=hcuY2vwhhFEKnhn1:21 Received: from [188.126.201.140] (account mc467741@c2i.net HELO laptop.adsl.tele2.no) by mailfe01.swip.net (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 5.2.16) with ESMTPA id 285173797; Wed, 02 Dec 2009 23:30:37 +0100 From: Hans Petter Selasky To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Date: Wed, 2 Dec 2009 23:32:19 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.11.4 (FreeBSD/9.0-CURRENT; KDE/4.2.4; i386; ; ) References: <4B070F07.8010600@greatbaysoftware.com> <4B169F1F.8050100@greatbaysoftware.com> In-Reply-To: <4B169F1F.8050100@greatbaysoftware.com> X-Face: (%:6u[ldzJ`0qjD7sCkfdMmD*RxpOwEEQ+KWt[{J#x6ow~JO:,zwp.(t; @Aq :4:&nFCgDb8[3oIeTb^'",;u{5{}C9>"PuY\)!=#\u9SSM-nz8+SR~B\!qBv MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200912022332.21245.hselasky@c2i.net> Cc: Subject: Re: USB bus setup error with 7.1 + PAE X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 02 Dec 2009 22:30:40 -0000 On Wednesday 02 December 2009 18:08:47 Charles Owens wrote: > [originally posted to -hardware] > > Hello, > > I'm having problems with the functioning of USB keyboards with an IBM > System x3550 M2 (new quad core Xeon, 6 GB RAM). However if I enter Mountfrom> ufs:da0 And repeat this five times, the da0s1a device appears in the list. Then entering ufs:/dev/da0s1a Performs a successful boot. I've used this method of booting, without the root mount failure :), since 6.0, and operates correctly on today's 7.2Stable. This is a barrier to upgrading, so I look forward to a solution. This is a definite regression from 7.1 and 7.2 for me. I had just upgraded my laptop an HP NX6125, AMD Turion 64, ATI Xpress 200M Chipset. Anytime I insert or remove a USB device, WIFI chipset (broadcom with ndis driver)/Bluetooth, External USB hard drive, The system becomes completely unresponsive. If you look at the top output below my attempt to run a zpool import on the Western digital hard drive I have has stopped in tx->tx and I can't kill the process. --- dmesg --- ohci0: mem 0xd8400000-0xd8400fff irq 19 at device 19.0 on pci0 ohci0: [ITHREAD] usbus0: on ohci0 ohci1: mem 0xd8401000-0xd8401fff irq 19 at device 19.1 on pci0 ohci1: [ITHREAD] usbus1: on ohci1 ehci0: mem 0xd8402000-0xd8402fff irq 19 at device 19.2 on pci0 ehci0: [ITHREAD] usbus2: EHCI version 1.0 usbus2: on ehci0 .... ugen0.1: at usbus0 uhub0: on usbus0 ugen1.1: at usbus1 uhub1: on usbus1 ugen2.1: at usbus2 uhub2: on usbus2 --- END --- --- usbconfig --- ugen0.1: at usbus0, cfg=3D255 md=3DHOST spd=3DFULL (12M= bps) pwr=3DON ugen1.1: at usbus1, cfg=3D0 md=3DHOST spd=3DFULL (12Mbp= s) pwr=3DON ugen2.1: at usbus2, cfg=3D0 md=3DHOST spd=3DHIGH (480Mb= ps) pwr=3DON ugen1.2: at usbus1, cfg=3D0 md=3DHOST spd=3DFULL (12Mbps) pwr=3DON ugen2.2: at usbus2, cfg=3D0 md=3DHOST spd=3DHIGH (480Mbps) pwr=3DON --- END --- --- top --- 1970 root 1 45 0 14636K 2312K tx->tx 0:00 0.00% zpool --- END --- ------------- /home/ali# usbconfig -u 2 -a 2 dump_curr_config_desc ugen2.2: at usbus2, cfg=3D0 md=3DHOST spd=3DHIGH (480Mbps) p r=3DON Configuration index 0 bLength =3D 0x0009 bDescriptorType =3D 0x0002 wTotalLength =3D 0x0039 bNumInterfaces =3D 0x0002 bConfigurationValue =3D 0x0001 iConfiguration =3D 0x0000 bmAttributes =3D 0x00c0 bMaxPower =3D 0x0001 Interface 0 bLength =3D 0x0009 bDescriptorType =3D 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber =3D 0x0000 bAlternateSetting =3D 0x0000 bNumEndpoints =3D 0x0002 bInterfaceClass =3D 0x0008 bInterfaceSubClass =3D 0x0006 bInterfaceProtocol =3D 0x0050 iInterface =3D 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength =3D 0x0007 bDescriptorType =3D 0x0005 bEndpointAddress =3D 0x0081 bmAttributes =3D 0x0002 wMaxPacketSize =3D 0x0200 bInterval =3D 0x0007 bRefresh =3D 0x0000 bSynchAddress =3D 0x0000 Endpoint 1 bLength =3D 0x0007 bDescriptorType =3D 0x0005 bEndpointAddress =3D 0x0002 bmAttributes =3D 0x0002 wMaxPacketSize =3D 0x0200 bInterval =3D 0x0000 bRefresh =3D 0x0000 bSynchAddress =3D 0x0000 Interface 1 bLength =3D 0x0009 bDescriptorType =3D 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber =3D 0x0001 bAlternateSetting =3D 0x0000 bNumEndpoints =3D 0x0001 bInterfaceClass =3D 0x0003 bInterfaceSubClass =3D 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol =3D 0x0000 iInterface =3D 0x0005 Additional Descriptor bLength =3D 0x09 bDescriptorType =3D 0x21 bDescriptorSubType =3D 0x10 RAW dump: 0x00 | 0x09, 0x21, 0x10, 0x01, 0x00, 0x01, 0x22, 0x21, 0x08 | 0x00 Endpoint 0 bLength =3D 0x0007 bDescriptorType =3D 0x0005 bEndpointAddress =3D 0x0083 bmAttributes =3D 0x0003 wMaxPacketSize =3D 0x0040 bInterval =3D 0x0006 bRefresh =3D 0x0000 bSynchAddress =3D 0x0000 --=20 Ali Mashtizadeh =D8=B9=D9=84=DB=8C =D9=85=D8=B4=D8=AA=DB=8C =D8=B2=D8=A7=D8=AF=D9=87
