It is missing sub-section topic listings. It very hard to find the subject one is looking for in the handbook. The TOC only gets me to the general area in the handbook and then I have to (next page) through it looking for what I hope is there. The TOC really needs to be expanded to display each and every sub-section topic of all the major sections now in the TOC. For example Installing from a "ms/dos partition" or "splash screen usage". These are both subjects in the handbook but are not in the TOC. What good is am TOC that does not index its content? The purpose of the TOC is to list all subjects documented in the handbook so the reader can skim through the TOC and click on the exact subject they want to read. Can not do that with the current handbook TOC. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: Rebuild the TOC by adding links to every sub-section topic in the handbook. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Mar 7 01:30:01 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4DE28106566B for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:30:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0DDC98FC14 for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:30:01 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id o271U0XP007640 for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:30:00 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id o271U0lH007637; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:30:00 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:30:00 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <201003070130.o271U0lH007637@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Aiza Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1EDDE106564A for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:27:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0D7558FC17 for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:27:46 +0000 (UTC) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id o271Rj7L031726 for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:27:45 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id o271RjL7031725; Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:27:45 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <201003070127.o271RjL7031725@www.freebsd.org> Date: Sun, 7 Mar 2010 01:27:45 GMT From: Aiza To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.1 Cc: Subject: docs/144516: Remove obsolete sections from handbook X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 07 Mar 2010 01:30:01 -0000 >Number: 144516 >Category: docs >Synopsis: Remove obsolete sections from handbook >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sun Mar 07 01:30:00 UTC 2010 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Aiza >Release: 8.0 release >Organization: n/a >Environment: >Description: Section 27.3 Using Kernel PPP and section 27.7 Using SLIP are obsolete. I checked in the transcripts in the hopes that others on this list might be motivated to help improve any additional errors in the transcripts and also perhaps contribute translated versions of the captions that I can then upload back to YouTube. If anyone is interested in improving the captions, or translating these into additional languages please let me know. My main request is that you not make any mechanical changes to the .sbv transcript files without watching the associated videos. I would be interested in knowing if anyone has recent experience with the Google Translator Toolkit for translating technical materials. It seems like a very useful tool for building up a short FreeBSD specific technical dictionary and then using the tool to automatically translate the caption files. - Murray From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Mar 8 11:06:08 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2031E106566C for ; Mon, 8 Mar 2010 11:06:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0D79B8FC12 for ; Mon, 8 Mar 2010 11:06:08 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id o28B68jb072960 for ; Mon, 8 Mar 2010 11:06:08 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id o28B67Nr072958 for freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 8 Mar 2010 11:06:07 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 8 Mar 2010 11:06:07 GMT Message-Id: <201003081106.o28B67Nr072958@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: gnats set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: FreeBSD doc list Cc: Subject: Current unassigned doc problem reports X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 08 Mar 2010 11:06:08 -0000 (Note: an HTML version of this report is available at http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?category=doc .)
