In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 6.x/7.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: x11-drivers/xf86-input-citron broken because: does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-drivers&portname=xf86-input-citron portname: x11-drivers/xf86-input-elographics broken because: does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-drivers&portname=xf86-input-elographics portname: x11-drivers/xf86-input-fpit broken because: does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-drivers&portname=xf86-input-fpit If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. I've forgot to mention that I had vm.pmap.pg_ps_enabled enabled. So, I've tr= ied various combinations of hw.physmem and vm.pmap.pg_ps_enabled. No valuabl= e result, only a bit smoother graphics with the superpages disabled. So I th= ink there is no reason possibly to continue testing various settings, becaus= e I have a bit customized setup: a bit customized kernel; xf86-video-intel, l= ibdrm compiled with gcc45, not the system default one... And each can be the= cause of such behavior. So, I consider upgrading to amd64. But... If you yo= u have any more recipes to try with i386 system, I'll try them. There are dozens of different clocks in ports/x11-clocks. I don't think it makes sense to install one of them by default just because it's mentioned as an example in the xinitrc template. If someone really wants the "classic" xclock (I'm trying to avoid the word "ancient"), he can install it himself. This should be a conscious decision, not an automatism. In my opinion, the xorg meta port already installs many things that most people never need. Personally, I have stopped using the meta port and install only the parts that I need. This is a little more work in the beginning, but it saves time in the long run when keeping things up to date. On my workstation, it cut down the number of packages by about 200 (from 700 down to 500). Best regards Oliver PS: In fact I _did_ install the ancient xclock on purpose, because it's leight-weight and it's a very good fit with my window manager (olvwm). But I'm probably an exception (proof for that is the fact that nobody cared to make xview and olvwm 64bit-clean for amd64, so I still have to run i386 on my workstation). That's exactly what I mean :-) > OP could probably solve the whole dilemma by doing "touch ~/.xinitrc" Right. I also have some newbies asked me why xlock wasn't installed after they have xorg meta-port installed. Shouldn't it take care of dependencies? Since some people got confused about that message, that's why I proposed adding dependency on x11-clocks/xclock. Yes, of course, that's right. But I don't think it has anything to do with whether xclock should be added as a dependency to xinit, just because xclock is mentioned as an example in the xinitrc template. By the way, the template also references quite a lot of other tools (xrdb, xmodmap, xterm, twm). None of them is a dependency of xinit. And rightly so. The contents of the default xinitrc are just an *example*; it's intended to be customized. > OP could probably solve the whole dilemma by doing "touch ~/.xinitrc" Right. I think if someone uses xinit, he should configure his xinitrc appropriately. Is really anybody seriously using twm + xterm + xlock nowadays?!?
