Fortunately this problem is now RESOLVED. Briefly, the root cause of it is * the wrong connection method between the KVM switch * and the PC motherboard * * # where KVM switch means hardware device that allows a * # user to control multiple computers from a single * # keyboard, video monitor and mouse. * # http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVM_switch Only one (NOT two) of the two PS/2 connectors from the KVM switch was plugged into the PC motherboard, which is considered to be WRONG officially (by the KVM switch vendor). ------------------------------ The KVM switch I use is corega CG-PC2KVMCA, whose detail is as follows:: * KVM switch: corega CG-PC2KVMCA http://corega.jp/prod/pc2kvmca/ ---------- (1) It accepts the following as console: - PS/2 and USB keyboard - PS/2 and USB mouse - USB 2.0/1.1 hardware - Analog/RGB display monitor (2) The connection interfaces available to the PC are as follows:: - USB (for keyboard, mouse, and other hardware) - PS/2 (for keyboard and mouse) - Analog/RGB display monitor I connected the PS/2 keyboard and the PS/2 mouse to the above-mentioned KVM switch, which is not wrong. The PC motherboard that is connected to the above-mentioned KVM switch is GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD5, whose detail is mentioned in the original message I posted:: * Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD5 http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3237 ---------- (1) BIOS ver = F12 (latest) (2) Chipset: Intel P55 Express (3) Only one PS/2 connector is available. (4) USB 3.0 ports are available as well as USB 2.0/1.1 ones. I connected the cables between the KVM switch and the PC motherboard. These cables provide the following connector at the side of the PC motherboard:: (a) USB (b-1) PS/2 keyboard (b-2) PS/2 mouse (c) Analog/RGB display monitor I plugged (a), (b-1), and (c) into the PC motherboard. The connector (b-2) was NOT plugged, because it is ONLY ONE PS/2 connector that is available at this PC motherboard. However, the KVM switch vendor informed me that this connection method was WRONG and that only the following two patterns are accepted as the PS/2 connection method:: (OK) BOTH OF (b-1) AND (b-2) are plugged into the PC (OK) NEITHER (b-1) NOR (b-2) are plugged into the PC ----- (NG) only (b-1) is plugged into the PC (NG) only (b-2) is plugged into the PC Now, only (a) and (c) are plugged into the PC motherboard. Under this circumstance, no trouble occur, independently of the following bios setting:: = "Enabled" / "Disabled" = "Enabled" / "Disabled" Finally, I would like to thank those who gave me the comments. -------------------- Original Message -------------------- Date: 16 Jan 2011 15:48:21 +0900 Message-ID: <20110116064821.12622.qmail@ts1.inter7.jp> To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org From: Norihiko Murase Subject: FreeBSD hangs while booting with USB legacy support off List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB URL: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-usb/2011-January/009849.html Hi, My name is Norihiko Murase. I would like you to give me the comments/suggestions about the symptom described below. I never got more than 10MBit with the noname = adapter, thus I suspect that's probably a hardware imposed limit, = despite its claims that it can do 100baseTX: ugen1.2: at usbus1 aue0: on usbus1 miibus2: on aue0 ukphy0: PHY 1 on miibus2 ukphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto ue1: on aue0 This is the dmesg output for the D-Link adapter: ugen3.2: at usbus3 axe0: on usbus3 miibus1: on axe0 rlphy0: PHY 3 on miibus1 rlphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto ue0: on axe0 Everything USB related from dmesg: usbus0: 12Mbps Full Speed USB v1.0 usbus1: 480Mbps High Speed USB v2.0 usbus2: 12Mbps Full Speed USB v1.0 usbus3: 480Mbps High Speed USB v2.0 ugen0.1: at usbus0 uhub0: on = usbus0 ugen1.1: at usbus1 uhub1: on = usbus1 ugen2.1: at usbus2 uhub2: on = usbus2 ugen3.1: at usbus3 uhub3: on = usbus3 I've unloaded/loaded if_axe several times to see if this remedies the = throughput problem, but that failed to provide any speed improvements. Looks like
1) rum0 was asked to Tx a packet with it's own mac addr as dst addr
2) find_tx_node() picked Tx node with ni_associd =3D=3D 0 (node with own ma= c addr)
=C2=A0 =C2=A0because rum0 runs in HOSTAP mode, IEEE80211_NODE_ASSOCID flag= hasn't been
set
3) the packet slip though this test
=C2=A0 http://fxr.watson.org/fxr/source/net80211/ieee= 80211_output.c#L231
4) picked up a bogus value at
=C2=A0 http://fxr.watson.org/fxr/source/dev/usb/wlan/if_ru= m.c#L1221
5) probably divided by 0 at
=C2=A0 http://fxr.watson.org/fxr/source/dev/usb/wlan/if_ru= m.c#L1019

[RFC] could add a simple test to the driver, like if (rate !=3D 0), but isn= 't it
nicer to patch in ieee80211_output.c?

workaround
Also addm em0, and set dhcpd_iface in /etc/re.conf
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/b= ooks/handbook/network-dhcp.html

This morning, having rebooted the laptop since my report yesterday, I am finding it creates /dev/video0 100% of the time now when run in the foreground, with both the original non-debug version and with the debug version. But it still fails 100% of the time with -B. Running with -m uvc_driver.trace=3D0xffffffff (is that a suitable value?), for both without and with -B gives the two traces below. You'll see there are no uvc messages present at all in the -B version. # ./webcamd -d 3.3 -i 0 -m uvc_driver.trace=3D0xffffffff Linux video capture interface: v2.00 benq: registered conex: registered etoms: registered finepix: registered gspca_gl860: driver startup - version 0.9d10 gspca_gl860: driver registered gspca: main v2.9.0 registered jeilinj: registered ALi m5602: registered mars: registered mr97310a: registered ov519: registered ov534: registered ov534_9: registered pac207: registered pac7302: registered pac7311: registered sn9c20x: registered sonixb: registered sonixj: registered spca500: registered spca501: registered spca505: registered spca506: registered spca508: registered spca561: registered sq905: registered sq905c: registered stk014: registered stv0680: registered STV06xx: registered sunplus: registered t613: registered tv8532: registered vc032x: registered zc3xx: registered pwc: Philips webcam module version 10.0.13 loaded. pwc: Supports Philips PCA645/646, PCVC675/680/690, PCVC720[40]/730/740/750 = & PCVC830/840. pwc: Also supports the Askey VC010, various Logitech Quickcams, Samsung MPC= -C10 and MPC-C30, pwc: the Creative WebCam 5 & Pro Ex, SOTEC Afina Eye and Visionite VCS-UC30= 0 and VCS-UM100. cpia2: V4L-Driver for Vision CPiA2 based cameras v2.0.0 em28xx driver loaded Em28xx: Initialized (Em28xx dvb Extension) extension pvrusb2: V4L in-tree version:Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 MPEG2 Encoder/Tuner pvrusb2: Debug mask is 31 (0x1f) dib0700: loaded with support for 14 different device-types au0828 driver loaded b2c2-flexcop: B2C2 FlexcopII/II(b)/III digital TV receiver chip loaded succ= essfully stv0680: registered SE401 usb camera driver version 0.24 registering DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated $0x80121a000 (4688. bytes) for 4. cameras DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[0].user_data=3D$0x80121cbb0 (48. byt= es) DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[1].user_data=3D$0x80121cb80 (48. byt= es) DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[2].user_data=3D$0x80121cb50 (48. byt= es) DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[3].user_data=3D$0x80121cb20 (48. byt= es) : v1.4:Konica Webcam driver DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated $0x801238400 (1712. bytes) for 1. cameras DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[0].user_data=3D$0x801244e00 (200. by= tes) DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated $0x801245000 (4688. bytes) for 4. cameras DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[0].user_data=3D$0x80121caf0 (48. byt= es) DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[1].user_data=3D$0x80121cac0 (48. byt= es) DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[2].user_data=3D$0x80121ca90 (48. byt= es) DBG: usbvideo_register: Allocated cams[3].user_data=3D$0x80121ca60 (48. byt= es) : Zoran 364xx USB Video Class driver (v0.1.0) IR JVC protocol handler initialized IR LIRC bridge handler initialized IR NEC protocol handler initialized IR RC5(x) protocol handler initialized IR RC6 protocol handler initialized IR Sony protocol handler initialized lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, major 13=20 Attached ugen3.3[0] to cuse unit 0 uvcvideo: Probing generic UVC device=20 uvcvideo: Found format YUV 4:2:2 (YUYV). uvcvideo: - 640x480 (30.0 fps) uvcvideo: - 352x288 (30.0 fps) uvcvideo: - 320x240 (30.0 fps) uvcvideo: - 176x144 (30.0 fps) uvcvideo: - 160x120 (30.0 fps) uvcvideo: Found a Status endpoint (addr 83). uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device (04f2:b1d6) uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebae0Ul/2 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebb18Ul/3 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebb50Ul/6 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebb88Ul/7 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebbc0Ul/8 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebbf8Ul/9 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebc30Ul/10 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebca0Ul/1 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebcd8Ul/4 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebd10Ul/5 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebd80Ul/11 to device entity 3 uvcvideo: Added control 0x7ebf40Ul/3 to device entity 1 uvcvideo: Scanning UVC chain: OT 2 <- XU 4 <- PU 3 <- IT 1 uvcvideo: Found a valid video chain (1 -> 2). uvcvideo: UVC device initialized. uvcvideo: uvc_v4l2_open uvcvideo: uvc_v4l2_release Creating /dev/video0 ^C # ./webcamd -d 3.3 -i 0 -m uvc_driver.trace=3D0xffffffff -B .. same trace as above, until: lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, major 13=20 Attached ugen3.3[0] to cuse unit -1 # and that's all. -jr --Sig_/BW4V/nW=D1RRuaep2O69yqD Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; Other than that, based on your tcpdump output, the driver is behaving fine. When the driver is not receiving any arp packet, it isn't sending any, so android phone doesn't work. No driver sends out a packet spontaneously. When the driver receives an arp packet, it sends out, so nokia phone works. There is nothing wrong from driver's point of view. It seems routing table hasn't properly been configured, so arp reply packets are sent to default gateway (most likely to em0). Once the routing table is set up, every thing should work fine. http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/network-routing.html You can set up an AP without bridge. Since you are making subnet, rather not to. But, if you need to use bridge, you need to add 2 or more NICs as I mentioned in previous thread.
