Enter the following at the loader: set hint.pmu.0.disabled="1" And add that to /boot/device.hints, and it will boot. You won't have any PMU functionality, it'll be disabled. Currently running RC4 on this machine and it's working quite well (without X at least...). A .txt file seemed like an unlikely boot file and AFAICR it wasn't blessed properly with 'tbxi', but when installing RC4 it got properly blessed. Just curious... why isn't the installer setting the nvram 'boot-device' value (or at least offering to set it, like it probably asks whether to install boot code to MBR on x86 BIOS hardware)? The bootinfo.txt is set with the tbxi type, so the regular OF boot chooser can find it -- or, if you aren't dual-booting, it will be found automatically. -Nathan From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 13 13:05:19 2014 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix, from userid 1033) id AF9789A8; Mon, 13 Jan 2014 13:05:19 +0000 (UTC) Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2014 13:05:19 +0000 From: Alexey Dokuchaev To: Britt Dodd Subject: Re: Installation of 9.2 or 10.0-RC2 to Powerbook G4 1.67 Message-ID: <20140113130519.GA78116@FreeBSD.org> References: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.22 (2013-10-16) Cc: FreeBSD PowerPC ML X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.17 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2014 13:05:19 -0000 On Fri, Jan 03, 2014 at 06:56:55PM -0500, Britt Dodd wrote: > Excellent! Would it be possible to have jailed root access (for the sake of simplification of broken ports' dependencies installation)? There are quite a few of broken ports on ppc, and I'd like to fix them. ./danfe From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 13 14:11:37 2014 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id C10FB7DE; Mon, 13 Jan 2014 14:11:37 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-ob0-x230.google.com (mail-ob0-x230.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:4003:c01::230]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-RC4-SHA (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 7914F12BD; Mon, 13 Jan 2014 14:11:37 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail-ob0-f176.google.com with SMTP id va2so67455obc.7 for ; Mon, 13 Jan 2014 06:11:36 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=5sod87zWDMtJpQBjnNBeBKh54WWhmMnk9irWbMV2RUQ=; b=cCk9vzdL9TJpCkY1nklcvRRPtf69vUssgnWyNMAWduP/Qnn4+9D2MFRA2KJvVvWQeJ 6yNX40+S8PfRhgXTbm4G3y/OC9GmFAyGj1sYtYirPpNijcMo+nAQ3XbPEVH6bB6CeJfz U+q7GeqS+fRUDVSMn5cUkT7fTc1FL/0wmH32xuvV+SIP8lKEJnOI9FVcgc/iFphHImjs BNhqUbgQHDOreIcmblfX178tljD5AB3fOpCDJqtRfyBCVZiyTpzB48B1OkUt0QD6Wp7F foNyeiDquSnj8p4LKYnKG0NPraOLeWaFJjJItzpn4WfI0ZDbOunILx5h8z5Yhw5jeBS8 WeFQ== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.60.54.168 with SMTP id k8mr2316115oep.56.1389622296257; Mon, 13 Jan 2014 06:11:36 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.76.69.8 with HTTP; Mon, 13 Jan 2014 06:11:36 -0800 (PST) In-Reply-To: <20140113130519.GA78116@FreeBSD.org> References: <20140113130519.GA78116@FreeBSD.org> Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2014 09:11:36 -0500 Message-ID: Subject: Re: Installation of 9.2 or 10.0-RC2 to Powerbook G4 1.67 From: Britt Dodd To: Alexey Dokuchaev Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.17 Cc: FreeBSD PowerPC ML X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.17 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2014 14:11:37 -0000 Absolutely! I have powerpc64 loaded on a XServe G5 already. I'll be working on my XServe G4 and powerbook this week. Once that happens, i'll be more than happy to give jail root access.
