I tripped up a kernel panic in FreeBSD-11.0-RELEASE trying to test playing = back a standard DVD on a laptop (HP 2000-2b19wm). I suspect the core issue is o= ne of two (maybe three) things: 1. Trying to use VLC to access /dev/cd0 as an unpriv user w/o fixing device permissions or adding to 'operator' group 2. Trying to use VLC to access /dev/cd0 as a raw device while it was mounted onto /media 3. DVD is encrypted and this appears to handled as-if it was damaged. This seems similar to Bug #208275, which affected 11.0's pre-release earlier this year. I finally got it to play, after fixing the perms for /dev/cd0 so my unpriv = user could access it, and also unmounted the /media mountpoint. Plays great thus far. Using the binary packages for all of this, nothing from ports and nothing rolled by hand, so I am skipping the inclusion of make.conf. Here's the crash detail, including errors from the bottom of dmesg: (cd0:ahcich1:0:0:0): Retrying command (per sense data) (cd0:ahcich1:0:0:0): READ(10). Trying to use carp and IPv6 on a 10.3-RELEASE. Two machines, each one with = its own IPv6 address and one common IPv6. Fairly simple. When a machine boots (the other one is obviously MASTER and has acquired the common IPv6 address), complaints about duplicate address detection of the common IPv6 are logged by the booting machine's kernel. kernel: vmx0: DAD detected duplicate IPv6 address : NS in/out/loopback=3D0/1/0, NA in=3D1 kernel: vmx0: DAD complete for - duplicate found As a result, the machine that has just booted has the duplicated flag for t= hat address in ifconfig and services that want to bind to that common address f= ail to start. In other words, the BACKUP cannot bind to the common address. Trying to setup the common address and carp by hand using ifconfig initially fails with: #ifconfig vmx0 inet6 /64 vhid 34 pass ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR): No such file or directory What's curious, second time that command is issued, no errors are printed a= nd the address is assigned to the interface. Using the no_dad ifconfig flag seems to solve the problem, but I suspect th= at this workaround is not extremely good as it disables DAD. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Tue Nov 22 16:34:49 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 20A09C4FC6A for ; The machine is an old Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 1214 Hammer 2.2 G= hz, 4 GB of RAM and a ZFS rootfs. During the boot, the system becomes extremely slow as soon as init starts d= evd. After the boot, killing devd doesn't help, the system is still slow. When shutdown -r now is entered, the system remain slow until the machine reset. Tests done : I deactivated devd in /etc/rc.conf and the system is booting and working normally. As soon as I start devd manually, the system becomes slow. If I start devd -d, devd does not end of seg fault, it stays blocked on "Popping table" after an event is detected on ums0 mouse kernel module.=20 If devd is interrupted or killed, the system remains slow. If I boot on kernel.old (from 10.3 RELEASE), the system boots normaly and is working flawlessly. Booting on the new kernel having deactivated the ums module doesn't change = the devd behavior, it is still slowing down the entire system as soon it is started. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Thu Nov 24 16:19:17 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8A5ADC530FD for ; Thu, 24 Nov 2016 16:19:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 79EAF1AD9 for ; Thu, 24 Nov 2016 16:19:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id uAOGJH4Z072327 for ; Thu, 24 Nov 2016 16:19:17 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 214630] netstat displays spurious count for connections in LAST_ACK state inside jail with VIMAGE kernel Date: Thu, 24 Nov 2016 16:19:17 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.0-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: tony181116@outlook.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-net@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 24 Nov 2016 16:19:17 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D214630 --- Comment #10 from tony181116@outlook.com --- For me it looks as though this is only an issue in jails where the firewall config is using divert to modify the packets. I'll see if I can create a simple scenario where traffic is diverted but no changes are made to it, to see if this causes the behavior to occur.
