A Windows guest also works fine. I found that if I set the number of processors to 1, then I can boot both of my Linux guest VMs. I can reproduce the panic if I create a new VM, set the number of processors to 5, and attempt to boot the CentOS 7 installation CD. In earlier testing, I set the number of processors to 2, which was what I'm using for Windows, but my existing CentOS VM still crashed. Something else that might be important is the host CPU is an AMD FX-8320E. I don't have any Intel hardware that is nearly recent enough to test this. I've seen this with = both CentOS 7 and Ubuntu 12 guests. The panic appears to occur near the start of the guest kernel boot after grub has run. The problems continues on BETA4. Since the updates, I have gotten a BSD (Blue Screen of Death, not the OS) several times, always indicating a required resource can't be found, but not always the same one. In all cases, the BSD occurred during a time when I had not had the desktop with the VM displayed for some time. It is possible, even likely that all have occurred while the system was pausing. The Manager window is also frozen. It does not re-draw when exposed and, since the BSD is presented at 640x480, it always is. If I kill the VM , the Manager window immediately redraws and becomes active. Other than asking whether I want to restart in SAFE mode, Windows reboots normally. I never saw this before the upgrades. I never get the failure while actually working on the VM, only when I have moved on to another desktop. I certainly don't get it every time. I suspect a race condition, perhaps in the process of pausing the system. I realize this lack any concrete information, but it is what I have and, perhaps, someone familiar with the innards has an idea what might be going on. -- Kevin Oberman, Part time kid herder and retired Network Engineer E-mail: rkoberman@gmail.com PGP Fingerprint: D03FB98AFA78E3B78C1694B318AB39EF1B055683 From owner-freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Tue Aug 9 19:00:14 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CA2A0BB4E14 for ; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AD5DD1BDB for ; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id ACCB6BB4E13; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AC823BB4E12 for ; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206c::16:87]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 959FE1BD9 for ; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 94C1F1DC8; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: vbox@localmail.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 944C51DC7 for ; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 817581BD8 for ; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u79J0ERh058797 for ; Tue, 9 Aug 2016 19:00:14 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: vbox@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 211651] emulators/virtualbox-ose-kmod 5.0.26_1 with Linux guest crashes 12.0-CURRENT host when # of processors > 1 Date: Tue, 09 Aug 2016 19:00:12 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: jkim@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: vbox@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback?
