I am miss or may be poor to descibe feature. I see only general config merge. What I need: newsyslog.conf may be 1) /var/log/messages 644 5 100 @0101T JC -- for small system 2) /var/log/messages 644 30 * @T00 JC -- for large, UFS-based system 3) /var/log/messages 644 30 * @T00 C -- for large, ZFS-based system and introducing new system type (current default move to 'small', introducing 'ufs') will be automatic mergering and result on 'ufs' system automatic changed 1) to 2). introducing 'zfs' -- changed 2) to 3), decomress log. Or, at least, use different template based on system type (need save this information somewhere).
