The Windows 7 VMs I had created under FreeBSD 10.3, Virtualbox 4.3.38= OSE r106717 were imported and ran without problems. However, when I tried to create a new VM on FreeBSD 11.1/11.0 using VirtualBox 5.1.26, both from the PORTs repository AND when compiled from source, I got the same set of problems. When installing Windows 7 you start by creating a virtual machine flagged as Win 7 64amd. You boot the virtual machine and provide it an ISO image of t= he Win 7 64 bit Install CD. The VM then boots from the CD, goes through a prelimiary setup phase, and then starts to copy and unpack files from the = ISO image. During this process it displays a progress bar showing the amount of work done. The unpacking operation appears to fail randomly - 10%, 12%, 20%, 26%, 54%. If you google the failure message, then problem (according to MS) is that = you have either a bad DVD, or memory and to take corrective actions. The ISO image checksum matches the published MD5 checksum. I have tried th= is on two different systems with the same result. I am attaching screenshots showing the output of the install and the Vbox.log file. In the Vbox.log file there appears to be a hint of the cause of the failure: 00:12:32.856035 AioMgr0-N: Request 0x000000a537bd00 failed with rc=3DVERR_TRY_AGAIN, migrating endpoint /root/VirtualBox VMs/Win7_2017-08-06/Win7_2017-08-06.vdi to failsafe manager. 00:12:34.601955 AIOMgr: I/O manager 0x000000993963a0 encountered a critical error (rc=3DVERR_FILE_AIO_NO_REQUEST) during operation. There are more! I am using FreeBSD 11.0 as a host system. I have created some FreeBSD 11.1 VMs with no problem. However, after installing the virtualbox-ose-additions-5.1.26 the mouse sharing (?) does not work. It does work with the Windows VMs, even when they have an old additions. Also, when you try to shut down the Windows VM, it will go through the shutdown procedure and then hang with a blank screen displayed. IF you do not have a share open then it almost always, but not always, will shut down. I am *not* using a custom kernel and only use packages and not ports. It's strange that this is marked 'Not a bug' becau= se it most certainly is. Whenever a software package that worked fine suddenly stops working correctly by no fault of the user, that's called a 'bug'. I have completely removed all VirtualBox packages, rebooted, then reinstall= ed and the problem still persists. I'm stuck on Ubuntu until this gets sorted...not having fun! --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. Everything seems to work until the moment when the X server actually tries to come up (after I choose session=xorg, username + password) In the X logs in the jail, in fact, I have this error: ... [ 9768.824] (EE) config/devd: fail to connect to devd [ 9768.824] [config] failed to initialise devd I've checked on the host machine, and I don't have that error as everything works fine there... In my jail, I've setup the devfs like this (/etc/jail.conf in the host): --- exec.start="/bin/sh /etc/rc"; exec.stop="/bin/sh /etc/rc.shutdown"; exec.clean; mount.devfs; devfs_ruleset=1; path="/usr/home/jail/$name"; myjail { host.hostname="myjail.me.com"; vnet; vnet.interface = epair0b, epair1b; persist; } --- and in the /etc/devfs.conf everythink is commented out. In the /dev directory in the jail, I get both the devctl and devctl2 devices. As the devd demon is not running in the jail, I've tried adding devd_enable="YES" in the rc.conf (jail), but when I try to start it, I get: # /etc/rc.d/devd start Starting devd. devd: Can't open devctl device /dev/devctl: Device busy /etc/rc.d/devd: WARNING: failed to start devd Do you know if I'm doing something wrong, or there's a proper way to have devd running in the jail? I've thought that maybe I should use the devtcl2 device, as the devctl is used by the host, but I don't know how to specify that to devd... Thanks in advance for your help.
