Check the source code for rawrec, if it sets the channels and AFMT correctly. Compare with the source code for virtual_oss in ports. It might also help you setup a recording device. --HPS From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Wed Jul 11 12:56:07 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4A6A7103B15F for ; Wed, 11 Jul 2018 12:56:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from spamakowski@gmail.com) Received: from mail-vk0-x235.google.com (mail-vk0-x235.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:400c:c05::235]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id CE720705A1 for ; Wed, 11 Jul 2018 12:56:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from spamakowski@gmail.com) Received: by mail-vk0-x235.google.com with SMTP id j11-v6so14330666vke.8 for ; Wed, 11 Jul 2018 05:56:06 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20161025; h=mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date:message-id:subject:to :cc; bh=6sratwCDnC9hTVQAxFmmU3hus6EQVr/i6+W4gLcHuKA=; b=MZhfiUWuns+iID1wAqaR3E9OWHAFY3jBxDgpFXyhZdAVBzPSWJYWQ+XqKh9R5su50o tfFuuTt++s5NHaf8Sdhe91sWUB5ri/nBWcyd2NzXlOOdeL/xGUT9h5OMvC+3BrWXLLYO PCbSZp87cxjlGZfti1LXbsp309tVRSJe75ZcT5lUTVQqw7NyDgpD4zJzS26W+DRr1rH1 PsHqOmBHhuhLhyQrUCTYUF/L4Jmt7NcqhVlzjy+oQsDSWzCsnBEg5xr8mnkGvE9nLFLZ dLTucbOBKbSB9LiVLbFyX3ACa2dljy8vMIKUlwMouAVAL1Pjh8EyyfwxHvqhrBfsqDcX P88w== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date :message-id:subject:to:cc; bh=6sratwCDnC9hTVQAxFmmU3hus6EQVr/i6+W4gLcHuKA=; b=TCvjYZMklOifg0V690MGw24jxVtyMvy1yslple+bNEO6OVl7AXXvNtxG646ez8pIY8 6b1M06ktKEt49yu46ZnifC4UEVdAJDDY/94I1FAKMTz3KHLtp3Ie2B687+xqlC7/0iox yDyr36oKKN8KkQ3qFy/OYVI5krifd5wK/l52ccknRYFj+I2zedxInBu7nXGHuomXohvj mWc0HS5YS8YELdwRuXGK3I9zQF7OEGVannwkfXej4WHCZneFt9PpSgUklGk/YgzkIFy9 finC0MovUmBNA9dpjBhoyKVM5eACnd6eq8DvNJm6PYI+4HDpyB8fMcCcs3nuWOnLTpei 44tw== X-Gm-Message-State: APt69E2T0XKkB9YUO3XfAcRNpyMgTHKf4DYzPeg8RRLxPOvyCdMf3tmo 84dI7UC7fUbCvcVIkBU7cSntgLwqymGdtUl5NcnS3w== X-Google-Smtp-Source: AAOMgpcz4F8yoxLNI391bIsMGa22uTZmc9IvbEUyYrxGzuqlW57QkGn6NIxEe2ihw1xnepbVp4px7wxCCsRNiVtkZGc= X-Received: by 2002:a1f:8948:: with SMTP id l69-v6mr16330153vkd.132.1531313766290; Wed, 11 Jul 2018 05:56:06 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 References: <0a5b0b1a-250c-fb43-0448-7f0b77ab9d3f@selasky.org> In-Reply-To: <0a5b0b1a-250c-fb43-0448-7f0b77ab9d3f@selasky.org> From: =?UTF-8?B?0JXQstCz0LXQvdC40Lkg0JEuINCh0L/QsNC80LDQutC+0LLRgdC60LjQuQ==?= Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2018 14:55:55 +0200 Message-ID: Subject: Re: More than 2 channels of sound fails To: Hans Petter Selasky Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.27 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2018 12:56:07 -0000 On Tue, Jul 10, 2018 at 4:12 PM Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > Check the source code for rawrec, if it sets the channels and AFMT > correctly. > > Compare with the source code for virtual_oss in ports. This allowed me to hack up a trivial test program to set format (AFMT_S32_NE), samplerate (48k), and channels (6) and measure the time it takes to read 6 * sizeof(int32) * 48000 bytes from the device. That turns out to be 1.0000 plus/minus epsilon seconds which is promising; i.e. the two first programs I tried (sox and rawrec) both suck. Thank you sir for those pointers. Berner from comment #1) > Hm, that seems to be an issue specifically with vlc How would you know? Poudrierre builds in jails, does not it, so it is unlik= ely to ever encounter a situation, where both mocs are installed... If ${MOC} is empty, vlc's configure looks for a) moc-qt4; b) moc in the PAT= H. It finds ${LOCALBASE}/bin/moc (which in our case is a symlink to qtchooser)= and calls it. Why is qtchooser then choosing the wrong moc, I do not know... I have been using vlc for some time but on my 12-current system when I updated to the latest head code for both the system and ports and rebuilt everything I could no longer get vlc to display/use X11 for its display (strictly command level). Here is the uname -a for my system: FreeBSD tavion.austin.ibm.com 12.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 12.0-CURRENT #6 r336172: Tue Jul 10 13:24:20 CDT 2018 bob@tavion.austin.ibm.com:/usr/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/TAVION amd64 I was wondering what other ports do we have that have functionality similar to vlc. I've scanned through the multimedia directory at the ports in there but there are alot of them and I was hoping someone could make a recommendation(s) Thanks, Bob -- Bob Willcox | Isn't air travel wonderful? bob@immure.com | Breakfast in London, dinner in New York, Austin, TX | luggage in Brazil.
