I really should go off and RTFM on this, but I'm kind of pressed for time, so I'll just ask. I've gotten myself into a minor verbal altercation with another fellow, over email, and one of the issues that came up was how to prevent one user from hogging all of the outbound IPv4 port numbers on some single machine that has only a single assigned IPv4 address. I gotta believe that FreeBSD must provide a way to do this, i.e. to prevent one annoying and mischevious user from screwing all of the rest of the users using that same system... specifically by hogging all of the outbound TCP -or- UDP port numbers. But I have no idea what things would need to be diddled in order to tweek any such relevant per-user limits. I'm guessing that it must be one or more very specific sysctl thingies, yes? Can someone please throw me a bone here? No IPv6 either, newfangled nonsense =E2=80=A6 :-/ So to access a certain set of services we installed a VMware virtual machine running FreeBSD at the VPN=E2=80=99s central hub and users in subsidiary offices use the IP address and certain ports on this machine which then hands off to the target service that is not reachable from the subsidiary. Setup is dead simple, just one example: /etc/services: oediv-3243 3243/tcp /etc/inetd.conf: oediv-3243 stream tcp nowait nobody /usr/bin/nc nc = 172.20.1.166 3243 The machine has been in service for 10+ years and runs FreeBSD 6.4. So what=E2=80=99s the problem? The VMware environment that hosts this = machine is about to be retired. So I installed a fresh VM with FreeBSD 11.2 plus current VMware-tools and copied the setup. Then we shutdown the old machine and booted the new one with identical IP address. Needless to say: doesn=E2=80=99t work. And no, it=E2=80=99s not the = obvious ARP caches. Connections can be established but then abort spontaneously without an observable pattern or reason. We already found that more modern netcat/nc needs =E2=80=9E-N=E2=80=9C = to close the connections on EOF, but besides =E2=80=A6 Does anyone know what might have changed that could cause connection problems? Each "abort" of TCP connection has its own distinct reason: TCP FIN or TCP RST or ICMP unreach or timeout etc. You need to start collecting packet captures with "tcpdump -npw file.pcap" Without such details, noone can tell you what's your reason out of hundreds possible. The result is that we can't find the if_tun cloner when we try to remove a renamed tun interface. Virtualise the cloner, and move the final cleanup into a sysuninit so that we're sure this happens after all of the vnet_sysuninits Note that we need unit numbers to be system-unique (rather than unique per vnet, as is done by if_clone_simple()). The unit number is used to create the corresponding /dev/tunX device node, and this node must match with the interface. Switch to if_clone_advanced() so that we have control over the unit numbers. Reproduction scenario: jail -c -n foo persist vnet jexec test ifconfig tun create jexec test ifconfig tun0 name wg0 jexec test ifconfig wg0 destroy PR: 235704 Reviewed by: bz, hrs, hselasky MFC after: 2 weeks Differential Revision: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D19248 Changes: head/sys/net/if_tun.c --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-net@freebsd.org Tue Mar 5 14:56:11 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-net@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AD01B1502893 for ; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 45AC36E687 for ; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 050471502892; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:11 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: net@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E68DF1502891 for ; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 815576E683 for ; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BAF341B074 for ; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x25Eu9fI023485 for ; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:09 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x25Eu9hQ023484 for net@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:56:09 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 236014] w -nn doesn't resolve hostname to ipv6 numeric if host has v4 and v6 entry. I checked, and 02:c9:63:0b:f4:00 is my router MAC, so I suppose the ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff should be what I see. The behaviour you are observing is expected, because netmap is a ker= nel bypass solution. In that case you are going through the "emulated netmap adapter", which is a way to use netmap (at reduced performance, and with some functional limitat= ion) over any Ethernet interface. In other words, VLAN interfaces do not (and cannot) have native netmap support (e.g. like ixl, ixgbe, em, vtnet, vmx, e= tc). This may explain what you see, since in emulated mode you are still partial= ly using the network stack. Or maybe your suricata is configured to forward packets between the physical interface and its host rings (e.g. between "igb" and "igb+"), which means t= hat packets actually pass through the FreeBSD network stack, and therefore thro= ugh pf. In any case netmap does not touch the packets in any way, and does not call into any firewall or similar packet processing element. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-net@freebsd.org Sat Mar 9 09:24:56 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-net@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 24949153E840 for ; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B2EB17656D for ; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 71BB9153E83D; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:55 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: net@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 371AD153E83C for ; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 98E2676569 for ; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D03C1D041 for ; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x299Or9W028848 for ; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:53 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x299OrJt028847 for net@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 9 Mar 2019 09:24:53 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 219428] em network driver broken in current Date: Sat, 09 Mar 2019 09:24:53 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: regression X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: thurners@nicsys.de X-Bugzilla-Status: Closed X-Bugzilla-Resolution: FIXED X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: net@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-net@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Networking and TCP/IP with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 09 Mar 2019 09:24:56 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D219428 Stefan Thurner changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |thurners@nicsys.de --- Comment #20 from Stefan Thurner --- Hi, I'm facing this problem on 1 of 2 installed em interfaces, too.
