Manually config the ethernet ports which are in reverse MAC order. I am fine with that. I did use "usefdt=1" for the boot loader and did get all four cores ( dual x dual core ) up and running fine. However any attempt to get full multi-user mode just gives me a "coredump" message. Sadly .. no where to dump to. I just wish I had a dump device. Regardless I was able to svn checkout current/head and did that by using the ipv4 address of svn.freebsd.org because dig/nslookup and name resolution wouldn't work. I don't know why. --<>--- Copyright (c) 1992-2019 The FreeBSD Project. Copyright (c) 1979, 1980, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 The Regents of the University of California. So anything that allows just about anyone anywhere to install and run FreeBSD on a ppc64 boxen dirt cheap is a "cool" project in my mind. OK. So ... IIUC, you are reporting: "-CURRENT has regressions on older hardware." If so, this, to me, seems much less alarming than the original message that "FreeBSD/powerpc64 is unusable". All the new development work is being done on new hardware. From time to time, the developers do regression testing on older machines. This is to be expected -- it's the most efficient way for them to proceed; progress would be much slower if the requirement was to test everywhere. I'd be much more concerned to hear that "-STABLE has regressions on older hardware" or even "releases have regressions on older hardware". Sometimes these things happen but we do try to prevent it -- the 'regression' tag in Bugzilla is designed for this very purpose. But regressions on -CURRENT ... that's to be expected on -CURRENT. It's primarily for developers, not users. Anyone using -CURRENT should consider the tradeoffs, and be willing to help debug and analyze. We are soon going to switch the default to lang/gcc9, so if that works I think we can get away declaring this a non-issue and simply marking lang/gcc8{,-devel} as broken on powerpc64. Note: this comes from GCC's altivec.h, so is powerpc64-specific. Note 2: Mark Millard has first raised this in 2017 as you found out, but since then there's not been other reports and a number of folks successfully built GCC, so probably now that clang is landing this is getting warmer (again). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Wed Jul 17 17:10:09 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DDC5EB19C1 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [96.47.72.132]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "freefall.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BB7AD8AFA4 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 8E0671733F; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:09 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: powerpc@localmail.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mx1.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 719541733D for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 1E3088AF9E for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id DB18B21868 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x6HHA80H090355 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:08 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x6HHA8Ee090354 for powerpc@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:08 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: powerpc@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 239266] lang/gcc8 fails to build with clang8: tree-vect-loop.c:4979:12: error: expected unqualified-id Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:08 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: marklmi26-fbsd@yahoo.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: toolchain@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: BB7AD8AFA4 X-Spamd-Bar: -- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-2.99 / 15.00]; local_wl_from(0.00)[freebsd.org]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000,0]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-0.99)[-0.995,0]; ASN(0.00)[asn:11403, ipnet:96.47.64.0/20, country:US]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000,0] X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:10:09 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D239266 Mark Millard changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |marklmi26-fbsd@yahoo.com --- Comment #2 from Mark Millard --- (In reply to Gerald Pfeifer from comment #1) I use patches for the type of issue for: ? I used to have such for gcc7 but quit using gcc7.) My changes long predate recent ELFv2 activity, powerpc64-gcc's patch file going back to 2017-Sep-30. What I did was rename vec_step to vec_step_renamed in order to avoid hitting clang's powerpc family specific definition of the name (tied to altivec). As I remember the source code in the area has changed over the time frame and the 3 patches are not all identical. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Wed Jul 17 17:18:49 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9879EB1BB0 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [96.47.72.132]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "freefall.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 796DE8B445 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 69CC51757C; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: powerpc@localmail.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mx1.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 655641757B for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 21E858B441 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 12BD321A39 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id x6HHImwh012059 for ; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:48 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id x6HHImYg012058 for powerpc@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:48 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: powerpc@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 239266] lang/gcc8 fails to build with clang8: tree-vect-loop.c:4979:12: error: expected unqualified-id Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: marklmi26-fbsd@yahoo.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: toolchain@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 796DE8B445 X-Spamd-Bar: -- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-2.99 / 15.00]; local_wl_from(0.00)[freebsd.org]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000,0]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-0.99)[-0.995,0]; ASN(0.00)[asn:11403, ipnet:96.47.64.0/20, country:US]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000,0] X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2019 17:18:49 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D239266 --- Comment #3 from Mark Millard --- (In reply to Gerald Pfeifer from comment #1) Note: Any gcc version with gcc_tree-vect-loop.c using the identifier vec_step will have the problem: clang reserves the name for the powerpc family when it is configures to support altivec. Clang is not using a namespace reserved to the compiler by defining vec_step." So, is this something that should be rectified on the clang side, really? For all scalar types, vec_step returns 1. The vec_step built-in functions that take a 3- component vector return 4. vec_step may also take a pure type as an argument, e.g. vec_step(float2) END QUOTE That is from: The OpenCL Specification Version: 1.2 which is from 2012-Nov. But I've seen references to version OpenCL V1.1 also having it --so vec_step is even olderin its originating standard. If I remember right, the clang implementation goes back to 2011. Thus: it is the classic problem when something wrong is done and stays in place for years (relative to C/C++): how much code would be invalidated and have to change if clang changed vec_step's spelling to be in a compiler namespace (or did something else incompatible to change things)? And what of OpenCL compatbility? Are GCC folks willing to avoid identifier names that OpenCL reserves and are shown to be a problem, so that compilers can reserve them, such as for OpenCL built-ins like here? --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Sat Jul 20 21:57:30 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 531DCA139C for ;
