I took a quick look, but I don't think there is any quick solution. For some reason, clang 3.4.1 (which shipped with 10.4) cannot handle the static_asserts which are inside the piece of code in question. Also, there are several other compilation errors, due to it being unable or unwilling to cast pointers. Upstream LLVM has recently bumped the requirements for building quite aggressively, it could very well be that a higher version of clang or gcc is now required to build 8.0, precisely because of the above. At some point they apparently wanted to drop the workarounds for old compilers. -Dimitry --Apple-Mail=_B81FEC47-5AEF-421C-B561-A266BF2BC3A1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=signature.asc Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: Message signed with OpenPGP -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG/MacGPG2 v2.2 iF0EARECAB0WIQR6tGLSzjX8bUI5T82wXqMKLiCWowUCXSQtGgAKCRCwXqMKLiCW o++2AKCtZdv3eTQx03W6apAzxpmtHxL65ACfWoyl6SYWjBIK8DNSDUr5TdZoGoo= =bK3L -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Apple-Mail=_B81FEC47-5AEF-421C-B561-A266BF2BC3A1-- From owner-freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Tue Jul 9 06:08:53 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-stable@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D521115D0AF9 for ; Tue, 9 Jul 2019 06:08:52 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wlosh@bsdimp.com) Received: from mail-qt1-x832.google.com (mail-qt1-x832.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:4864:20::832]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "GTS CA 1O1" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id A80D680E24 for ; Tue, 9 Jul 2019 06:08:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wlosh@bsdimp.com) Received: by mail-qt1-x832.google.com with SMTP id d17so19109109qtj.8 for ; Mon, 08 Jul 2019 23:08:51 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=bsdimp-com.20150623.gappssmtp.com; s=20150623; h=mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date:message-id:subject:to :cc; bh=wmDNwjIzJc4ujMHQdAu05HR1gTCa/xnwgBO3EuM6mjI=; b=nZoRWk4ikmIbm3sk3sw/gvAel9TVQacUoWQ3smYCKAXVDkE6uJgjEFXe2cHsQQnk5i UmWX3q+FuQVqfRJ9AUVZBuIr5q0XorhbOX4WBs36jHyuehr2XybiJAnlbt/iKTrbl5qb BbwdvNCLw9JJLJkGVH1ylN4s39Hapm+1nMjQhk8UbB28ukgvAenAIXLwVX9BYaiKLRLZ 6AnPMvq1DPAXEvFCnDryfajUQQaIkcRgIqRBBDRFwyzvyTi0aG+iFptMoC2VTRip/45k obNrx5xVk+bOgbJFmJ7n/k4V8WPzL28St3fBSKqG6FSX9dNlh8d+rsF/uKhUf93U+0k0 OoMw== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date :message-id:subject:to:cc; bh=wmDNwjIzJc4ujMHQdAu05HR1gTCa/xnwgBO3EuM6mjI=; b=tFX+yw96A+EmoCDq+mrQ1baEOPYiohIvb2e5c4RGAV7Wirp4EgyjM/BBNz4xSLwwLn 6u52zG2IedXdGGEG/2fFKINzr2yb5EBja9DccTjLX6bInRKjHZme/U3HkRCudv/ip69d aOwlEX8HkPGpPPM7tj59IZjaa2PKCwVbO+9Lgx96aPJwTRaEsXtHtr2HanYPsNEQxNaD giz4yrTXxHGRiNGCbhlh0t5J9RdYJgTI6seGRMMxZRsIrXlae0FOtVYHg+KV++wId2Vb MA5YtxNBqIxjVhF9E0KNHJlNJiGUyjmFYJSLrmCdfJPAZLt6VdrZbHJJNQeiofggHXd6 qS9w== X-Gm-Message-State: APjAAAVQDVAxRPHHQpPDLZG5PgooQ5vCLdsK04+xWqUJ5ecpLtlGUUQG eGAAXWMI/Pl3+P1wx8qQjfnRvTkH8ndPjUCxeVjcWWr4 X-Google-Smtp-Source: APXvYqwaSnkBJi606TYK4JTyGwHx0trIcVWDDPFRBuVhA1i0HXzhGwBKcBqvYRKpQr6SauhDPTOsZ97xcFPqRJTA0sM= X-Received: by 2002:ac8:2baa:: with SMTP id m39mr17518730qtm.242.1562652530702; Mon, 08 Jul 2019 23:08:50 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 References: <20b32c01-03a7-a376-a90f-7f5b8296181a@sentex.net> <201907080637.x686bkG5071904@mailin1.pluspunkthosting.de> <46BA7C85-0BED-4797-98D7-1FC91E2C9EBE@punkt.de> <8ddc52ed-145e-6704-8e00-543b4ee91bff@sentex.net> In-Reply-To: From: Warner Losh Date: Tue, 9 Jul 2019 00:08:39 -0600 Message-ID: Subject: Re: RELENG_10 to RELENG11 buildworld no possible ? The panics are all basically the same: Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode fault code = supervisor read data, page not present Adding workloads to the hosts seems to increase panic frequency, but the panics have also occurred on completely idle hosts. Similarly, uptime when panicking has been as low as minutes, and as high as ~620 days. For reasons, it has not been possible to extract a coredump from these hosts, nor practical to run memtest on them or upgrade them to a newer release. About 1% of our hosts are affected each day, so we've just been living with the problem. However, while testing 12.0 on the same hardware, I encountered the same panic and was able to capture the core dump. (See below.) All of my Google-fu on this panic has turned up threads suggesting the problem is hardware, but there are two problems with that idea... One, memtest has turned up no errors on 12.0 host I witnessed the panic on. Two, a small number of systems on the same hardware are running 10.3-RELEASE, and have experienced no panics in their history. Panics have only happened on 11s, and now 12. kgdb output from the panic follows. (This particular host was in the middle of rebooting when it panicked.) Hoping someone here has some insight. My uninformed wild-ass guess is something relating to spectre/meltdown fixes. I tried to run PF manually: # service pf reload pf does not exist in /etc/rc.d or the local startup directories (/usr/local/etc/rc.d), or is not executable # ls -l /etc/rc.d/pf -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1.2K Jul 10 16:56 /etc/rc.d/pf OK, now I know what this problem is: # ls -l /etc/rc.d/ | grep 'rw-r--r' -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 3032 Jul 10 20:30 ipfw -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 788 Jul 10 20:32 ipmon -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 14256 Jul 10 16:58 jail -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2956 Jul 10 16:56 ldconfig -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 4500 Jul 10 20:34 ntpd -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1263 Jul 10 16:56 pf All these files where edited by etcupdate because there were some conflicts. I was using mergemaster in the past and never had a problem like this so my question is: why files with conflicts edited by etcupdate have wrong permissions?
