Recently One of my FreeBSD-xen servers went down hard due to a power failure. When it came back up, one of the domus' came up, but with no network interface. Dmesg messages show the following errors. To fix the issue, I removed the /var/lib/xenstored/tdb file and rebooted. Before that, I couldn't get this domu to boot with a network interface. My question is, is it reasonable to take this action when such an error occurs and, further, might it be better to remove that file before attempting to start xen on reboots, just in case something didn't go down cleanly? -thanks -Brian Jan 28 02:07:17 xen-lothlorien kernel: xnb(xnb_frontend_changed:1397): frontend_state=Initialised, xnb_state=InitWait Jan 28 02:07:17 xen-lothlorien kernel: xnb1: Error 2 Unable to retrieve ring information from frontend /local/domain/7/device/vif/0. Yes, I think it should be placed in a directory that's cleaned on reboot, it's not expected that people have to go clean this themselves. Do you have any recommendation where this should be placed? /var/run/xen would seem like a suitable place. There have been some bootloader changes in main and stable/13 branches that prevented booting a FreeBSD/Xen PVH Dom0. A fix has been committed to main and should hopefully be backported to stable/13 in due time, it's: b6d85a5f51e4 stand/multiboot: adjust the protocol between loader and kernel That however will require that you also use a Xen package version greater or equal to 4.14.1_0. I've just added those to the ports repository: r563208: emulators/xen-kernel,sysutils/xen-tools: update to 4.14.1 However binary packages will take some time to appear. In the mean time, if you wish to use a Xen dom0 please make sure to run a build of FreeBSD that has the above commit applied, and to build the Xen packages from the ports tree yourself (while a binary one is not available). Sorry for the inconvenience.
