We can either make the mem file in the procfs owned by group kmem and group readable, or we can make everything that needs this be setuid root as you have done above. The problem with making mem gid kmem is that it current has the uid and gid of the running process. If we change this, then this will no longer be true. This is probably of marginal utility, so we should probably change it group kmem. I'm open to other opinions... -DG From owner-cvs-bin Fri Aug 12 03:23:54 1994 Return-Path: cvs-bin-owner Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.8/8.6.6) id DAA01322 for cvs-bin-outgoing; Fri, 12 Aug 1994 03:23:54 -0700 Received: (from davidg@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.8/8.6.6) id DAA01312; Fri, 12 Aug 1994 03:23:50 -0700 Date: Fri, 12 Aug 1994 03:23:50 -0700 From: David Greenman Message-Id: <199408121023.DAA01312@freefall.cdrom.com> To: ache, adam, alm, ats, bde, csgr, cvs-bin, davidg, dyson, guido, hsu, jkh, jvh, karl, martin, nate, paul, phk, proven, pst, rgrimes, rich, sean, smace, sos, wollman Subject: cvs commit: src/bin/df df.c Sender: cvs-bin-owner@freefall.cdrom.com Precedence: bulk davidg 94/08/12 03:23:50 Modified: bin/df df.c Log: The last commit was bogus...the putenv doesn't affect the parent process, so the BLOCKSIZE doesn't need to be preserved.
