This is a small change and I'm not going to fight it tooth and nail but it does seem rather cludgy to link a command name to a different binary just because it's referenced in the docs when that old command had a completely different syntax and functionality. There are far, far worse problems with the docs than simply referencing sendbug. -- Paul Richards, Bluebird Computer Systems. FreeBSD core team member. And I don't necessarily agree that it should do that, I guess the real guts of it are that bugfiler is now missing, so those sites that used BSD systems and the bugfiler (not many, but I have named at least 1 commercial vendor that does ship there system standard that way, right down to the point that every single panic has an auto invokation of sendbug, and the necessary servers running at headquarters to get them). For smaller sites who want a nice little bug filling system bugfiler and sendbug are a snap to set up. We have a small part of gnats in the tree, but what is there does not provide the customer with any server side. > The manual pages in 4.4 just reference `sendbug' as an interactive > command you're supposed to run. Some of those sites could easily use (and I know of at least 1 that does) the supplied BSD 4.4 Lite sendbug/bugfiler tool set to do there job. Because _FreeBSD_ has decided to use gnats for its bug tracking system does not mean we should impose that on other sites. Your link now creates a direct conflict between a standard BSD supplied function and a FreeBSD specific add on. -- Rod Grimes rgrimes@gndrsh.aac.dev.com Accurate Automation Company Reliable computers for FreeBSD From owner-cvs-gnu Thu Aug 31 14:03:55 1995 Return-Path: cvs-gnu-owner Received: (from majordom@localhost) by freefall.FreeBSD.org (8.6.11/8.6.6) id OAA23577 for cvs-gnu-outgoing; Thu, 31 Aug 1995 14:03:55 -0700 Received: (from davidg@localhost) by freefall.FreeBSD.org (8.6.11/8.6.6) id OAA23567 ; Thu, 31 Aug 1995 14:03:50 -0700 Date: Thu, 31 Aug 1995 14:03:50 -0700 From: David Greenman Message-Id: <199508312103.OAA23567@freefall.FreeBSD.org> To: CVS-commiters, cvs-gnu Subject: cvs commit: src/gnu/usr.bin/cvs/cvs import.c Sender: cvs-gnu-owner@FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk davidg 95/08/31 14:03:49 Branch: gnu/usr.bin/cvs/cvs RELENG_2_1_0 Modified: gnu/usr.bin/cvs/cvs import.c Log: Brought in changes from rev 1.6: deal with failures better.
