No, the ldconfig is only good for ldd, so it will find the library for the shared executable. But it will no longer find the library in the ld case. One more question to this: We are in the moment inconsistent, either we have all not necessary existing paths in ld like /usr/X11R6/lib and /usr/local/lib, or we shouldn't have them both in ld and only have the /usr/lib as a standard in it. Hmm, I don't notice this at all, but I suppose this is because xmkmf always adds the default library lines, so I guess that's expected. > One more question to this: We are in the moment inconsistent, either > we have all not necessary existing paths in ld like /usr/X11R6/lib > and /usr/local/lib, or we shouldn't have them both in ld and only > have the /usr/lib as a standard in it. You are correct, and it's my fault. I should (and probably will) remove /usr/local from the standard library search path. Removing both /usr/X11R6/lib and /usr/local/lib from the search path is 'The Right Thing' to do since neither of them are mandatory, and any programs that needs those libraries almost always will add the necessary flags to the link line. Yes, that's correct. xmkmf and a good Imakefile is your friend for x-ports. But unluckily we have some parts that don't have imake files. These are exactly the ones that now give troubles, but i think i will soon get them all and fix them :-). Luckily it is not needed here, because the * substitution only works the first time. Are you sure about this? This "double @cd" trick is commonly used when the porter absolutely wants some of the stuff to be installed in certain places; and seeing that the second @cd comes right before the app-defaults section, I think the porter (swallace or jkn in this case) knew what he was doing. Also, all the commits you have been doing about the first @cd of the PLIST files aren't really relevant, because pkg_create is called with "-p ${PREFIX}" from bsd.port.mk. One more question. Did we decide to make X11BASE a documented variable in bsd.port.mk? I always thought X11BASE was fixed to /usr/X11R6. It is undocumented, and only used to initialize PREFIX when USE_IMAKE is set. I thought PREFIX was what the user is supposed to change to install the port elsewhere. I don't want to block the whole port tree for a large amount of time. If you look at the time between the commits, you see how fast i can work from germany :-). If i crash between these small commits, only one port is blocked and not the whole hierarchy. I had yesterday somewhere around 10-20 seconds for the echos of single chars :-(. Lately there have been quite a few log entries and closed problem reports that pretty much state: "fixed the xxx bug", or "XXX said that this is not a problem". It doesn't take that much more time to add a few more lines to the log/problem report that state exactly that the problem being fixed is, and how it was fixed. The advantage being that someone out there might recognize that a problem they are seeing in a different area might be related, and that people sending in problem reports will see the description and maybe recognize it as some problem they have been seeing and not file a duplicate problem report. Also, look at it like this: we want people to see FreeBSD as a real supported operating system. I feel that the support for FreeBSD is just fine, but as someone who has been on both ends of the support issue, comments like "fixed bug" just don't cut it (sorry to whoever submitted this change, I'm not trying to pick on anyone personally). What I'm looking for is something along the lines of: Fixed flags corruption bug that caused condition XXX to happen if condition YYY was true." If possible, a small test description would also be desirable: "To duplicate, run the "xyzzy -plugh" command and note that the output incorrectly reports that you have the lantern. With the fix applied, the output should no longer report that you have the lantern. Ran fix on my home machine and verified that the fix did correct the problem." Again, a test case helps people out who run into similar problems in different areas. And for closed-pr's, the closing log entry should state how the problem was fixed (just like what the commit log entries should have), or a reference to another problem report # if the problem has already been fixed. I know people are busy, and I don't want to make more work for people, but I think just taking another minute or two to enter a more detailed description will help all around. This may also help eliminate some of the "my -current kernel panics now, can anyone tell me what changes have gone in the past 2 days?" There have been a few days in the past couple of weeks that I couldn't really tell what had changed, even though I subscribe to all of the mailing lists, due to the lack of detailed commit/closed-pr messages. And as long as I'm at it, would it be possible to allow us to sup/ftp the CVS/RCS files directly? That way if someone is having problems with an updated source, they can get the previous revisions and try them out to try and determine exactly which modification broke their system. I would also like to be able to scan the detailed open problem reports, but I haven't seen anything anywhere that would allow me to do that. I'm nopt sure I want to see all this in the cvs logs. If you're a developer then in general you should be able to see what has been done by looking at the code changes. The cvs log should explain what has been done and why so when you look at the diff you understand the intention of the change. > And for closed-pr's, the closing log entry should state how the > problem was fixed (just like what the commit log entries should have), > or a reference to another problem report # if the problem has already > been fixed. I'd be happy with a log that said, fix applied, see revision x.yy of foo.c and then I can look in the cvs logs to see what was done. I don't see any reason to duplicate the log entries both in cvs and in gnats. > And as long as I'm at it, would it be possible to allow us to sup/ftp the > CVS/RCS files directly? You can request access to the cvs tree by asking core. As to querying the gnats database. This is possible, send mail to FreeBSD-gnats-query@FreeBSD.org with the PR number you want to know about in the subject or body of the message. There are lots more options to this facility, basically the mail interface does anything that query-pr does. If you have access to a query-pr manpage then any command line options to query-pr can be put into the mail message and it'll mail the results back to you. I'm looking into including the query-pr manpage in the release so that people can use the service properly. -- Paul Richards, FreeBSD core team member. This person contacted me via private email. I have take the appropriate actions to clear the situation. Actions: 1) Make sure the cron job had not yet updated /usr/ports with the files from ~ncvs/ports/mit-scheme ls /usr/ports/mit-scheme 2) Direct repository copy of ~ncvs/ports/mit-scheme to ~ncvs/ports/lang/mit-scheme. cd ~ncvs/ports; find mit-scheme | cpio -pdamu --block-size=16 lang 3) Again check to make sure cron had not picked this up yet for /usr/ports on freefall. ls /usr/ports/mit-scheme 4) Clear the bad copy from ~ncvs. rm -r ~ncvs/ports/mit-scheme Since I was able to fix this within 1hr 30 mintues of it happening I did a rm of it instead of placing it in the Attic. This may have caught someone who had sup'ed the ncvs bits during the window that this port was in the wrong place. Since neither the update of /usr/src or the ctm stuff had run I felt it reasonable safe to do the rm at this time, normally this is not a safe thing to do. Poul, can you clearly point me at a way to check on what ctm is doing (I assumed here that it runs right after the update of /usr/src, /usr/ports, and is ports avaliable via ctm?) > -josh -- Rod Grimes rgrimes@gndrsh.aac.dev.com Accurate Automation Company Custom computers for FreeBSD From owner-cvs-ports Sat Mar 25 22:19:01 1995 Return-Path: cvs-ports-owner Received: (from majordom@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.10/8.6.6) id WAA02145 for cvs-ports-outgoing; Sat, 25 Mar 1995 22:19:01 -0800 Received: (from jmacd@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.10/8.6.6) id WAA02134; Sat, 25 Mar 1995 22:18:59 -0800 Date: Sat, 25 Mar 1995 22:18:59 -0800 From: Joshua Peck Macdonald Message-Id: <199503260618.WAA02134@freefall.cdrom.com> To: CVS-commiters, cvs-ports Subject: cvs commit: ports/lang/mit-scheme/scripts pre-configure Sender: cvs-ports-owner@freebsd.org Precedence: bulk jmacd 95/03/25 22:18:58 Modified: lang/mit-scheme/files md5 Log: I remade the tarball instead of uploading it off my computer, and then gzip -9'ed it, the md5 came out different.
