Sender: owner-multimedia@freebsd.org Precedence: bulk To all FreeBSD sound driver hackers: Yes! The new sound driver is out! The main new features are: - Support for more soundcards. - Full-duplex audio support for some soundcards (where did I hear that before?) - Experimental mmap() support for DMA buffers for some soundcards. One thing is on the downside, though. The driver is slowly becoming less and less portable (the pas t bunch of releases have all been 'L...x-only' :-( ). Time to do something about this?! Also several parts have been substantially rewritten, so ome of our porting work will have to be redone. Note: This driver is _not_ an official release. I will have to extract it from a Linux kernel. I will upload it to rah.star-gate.com:/pub/incoming as soon as I can reach this site once more (Amancio?) --- Alain From owner-freebsd-multimedia Wed Oct 18 21:34:21 1995 Return-Path: owner-multimedia Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.6.12/8.6.6) id VAA23118 for multimedia-outgoing; Wed, 18 Oct 1995 21:34:21 -0700 Received: from anvil.gatech.edu (root@anvil.gatech.edu [130.207.165.41]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.6.12/8.6.6) with ESMTP id VAA23103 for ; Wed, 18 Oct 1995 21:34:10 -0700 Received: from acmex.gatech.edu (gt4722a@acmex.gatech.edu [130.207.165.22]) by anvil.gatech.edu (8.6.12/8.6.12) with ESMTP id AAA03919 for ; Thu, 19 Oct 1995 00:34:02 -0400 From: gt4722a@prism.gatech.edu (Brian "AGENT GORDON COLE" Atkins) Received: (gt4722a@localhost) by acmex.gatech.edu (8.6.12/8.6.12) id AAA28474 for multimedia@freebsd.org; Thu, 19 Oct 1995 00:34:00 -0400 Message-Id: <199510190434.AAA28474@acmex.gatech.edu> Subject: Re: CD-ROM drive recommendatio To: multimedia@freebsd.org Date: Thu, 19 Oct 1995 00:34:00 -0400 (EDT) X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL24] Content-Type: text Content-Length: 533 Sender: owner-multimedia@freebsd.org Precedence: bulk I might as well chime in here too since I am also going to be ordering one in a few days: how about the Pioneer DR-U124X? It's 4.4x with very fast seek of around 150ms. Claims to handle CD-DA and all that good stuff, and there is a Win95 driver. I have heard good reports of this drive in the scsi/storage groups and it can be had for around $225 from Insight I think. Anyone had any experience with it under FreeBSD though? I was considering the Toshiba 4speed, but it uses caddies and costs a bit more for the same performance...
