The driver code for FreeBSD 2.2-current is beta, and much of the support code is alpha. The Talisman Decoder decodes in hardware MPEG I System Streams. It also has a VGA Window capability and can display scaled video in a window on your VGA display, or unscaled via a NTSC video monitor. The code and sample X window application are far enough along that people could consider using the software to build into their applications. The VGA window feature will only work with VGA clocks 90MHz or less and your VGA card must have a working feature connector. To get started you need ftp://omt.com/pub/omt/tm0.04d.tar.gz ftp://omt.com/pub/omt/tm-easy-utils-v1.05.tgz If you want to play VideoCDs or CDI CDs you will need a Plextor 4plex CDROM drive. Library and source to the sample X application are in: ftp://omt.com/pub/omt/tm-easy-lib-v1.05.tgz More information on OmniMedia products can be had from: http://www.omt.com You can also find some information on my home page: http://www.mpress.com -- Brian Litzinger Powered by FreeBSD http[s]://www.mpress.com speakfree.mpress.com [use -t (GSM)] How to program in c++: // From owner-freebsd-announce Sun Feb 4 21:32:23 1996 Return-Path: owner-freebsd-announce Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id VAA03264 for freebsd-announce-outgoing; Sun, 4 Feb 1996 21:32:23 -0800 (PST) From: Brian Litzinger Message-Id: <199602020954.BAA29667@MediaCity.com> Subject: X support for Talisman MPEG I hardware decoder card To: freebsd-announce@FreeBSD.org Date: Fri, 2 Feb 1996 01:54:30 -0800 (PST) X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL24 ME8b] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-announce@FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk There is now X support for the OmniMedia Talisman MPEG I hardware decoder card. Unlike the current version distributed by Sun's Javasoft*, this system performs "on-the-fly" conversion of the Java virtual machine code into native machine code. This allows execution of Java code at speeds approaching standard compiled code but maintains Java machine code independence. *NOTE*, this is version 0.1. This should indicate something about the stability and completeness of this program to you (if it was finished it'd be called 1.0 wouldn't it). However even this version will run simple applications and compile programs using Javasoft's Javac. The current version is available at the following: ftp.sarc.city.ac.uk:/pub/kaffe/kaffe-0.1.tgz For the moment it only supports FreeBSD-2.1.0, although a Linux port is forth coming (just as soon as I can get hold of a Linux machine). Other ports will be added as and when I have time. Enjoy. * Java and Javasoft are registered trademark of Sun Microsystems, Inc. -- Tim Wilkinson Email: tim@sarc.city.ac.uk Systems Architecture Research Centre, Tel: +44 171 477 8551 City University, Northampton Sq., Fax: +44 171 477 8587 London EC1V 0HB, UK.
