I mentionned http://www.willows.com/ which is developing a portable library that really understands most MS WINDOWS C++ code, which is good for code that is already written. It is freely downloadable for non-commercial purposes, and has a VERY modest fee for using it for commercial purposes. Also looks like something that will be very well-supported. Jim from mirai.com also mentionned Fresco at: http://www.faslab.com/fresco/HomePage.html It looks very portable and very innovative. There is also wxWindows at: http://www.aiai.ed.ac.uk/~jacs/wxwin.html If others find other good GUI library sites, please report them. The original intention was that the boot block detects the absence of a keyboard itself, and automagically switches to a serial console if no keyboard is present. Due to the nature of PC hardware, the omission of a function to test the BIOS' keyboard check result, and the limited size of the bootblocks, this function tends to jam an alarming amount of PC keyboards, and has been disabled (for now :). You could re-enable it in /sys/i386/boot/biosboot/boot.c (it's #if 0'ed), and see if it works for you. Or you could uncomment the line with -DFORCE_COMCONSOLE in the Makefile, to always use a serial console. Either way, rebuild and reinstall the bootblocks, and then run disklabel -B in order to put them to your disk. (NB: this will destroy your fdisk table.) Finally, SGMLify this answer, and submit it for the handbook. :-) -- cheers, J"org joerg_wunsch@uriah.heep.sax.de -- http://www.sax.de/~joerg/ -- NIC: JW11-RIPE Never trust an operating system you don't have sources for. ;-) From owner-freebsd-chat Wed Jan 17 11:00:17 1996 Return-Path: owner-chat Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id LAA28323 for chat-outgoing; Wed, 17 Jan 1996 11:00:17 -0800 (PST) Received: from relay6.UU.NET (relay6.UU.NET [192.48.96.16]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with ESMTP id LAA28283 for ; Wed, 17 Jan 1996 11:00:11 -0800 (PST) Received: from vivid.autometric.com by relay6.UU.NET with SMTP id QQzyye07632; Wed, 17 Jan 1996 14:00:08 -0500 (EST) Received: from jester by vivid.autometric.com via ESMTP (950215.SGI.8.6.10/920502.SGI) for <@vivid.autometric.com:freebsd-chat@freebsd.org> id OAA14057; Wed, 17 Jan 1996 14:00:07 -0500 Received: by jester (940816.SGI.8.6.9/940406.SGI) for freebsd-chat@freebsd.org id OAA11524; Wed, 17 Jan 1996 14:00:06 -0500 From: "Brian J.
