They work fine on 2.1.5. You need: src/share/sgml src/usr.bin/sgmlfmt src/usr.bin/sgmls Build and install the latter two. Install the first after moving your existing /usr/share/sgml out of the way. You will need to create FreeBSD, ISO and transpec subdirectories in /usr/share/sgml for the install to work. You also need the groff mm macros from current. (Actually, groff from current builds fine on 2.1.5 as well.) -john == jfieber@indiana.edu =========================================== == http://fallout.campusview.indiana.edu/~jfieber ================ From owner-freebsd-doc Mon Nov 18 13:00:00 1996 Return-Path: owner-doc Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) id NAA11351 for doc-outgoing; Mon, 18 Nov 1996 13:00:00 -0800 (PST) Received: from ns1.arlut.utexas.edu (ns1.arlut.utexas.edu [129.116.212.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) with ESMTP id MAA11346 for ; Mon, 18 Nov 1996 12:59:58 -0800 (PST) Received: from mail-firewall.arlut.utexas.edu (ns1.arlut.utexas.edu [129.116.212.1]) by ns1.arlut.utexas.edu (8.7.5/8.7.3) with ESMTP id OAA25749; Mon, 18 Nov 1996 14:59:56 -0600 (CST) Received: from mamba.arlut.utexas.edu (mamba.arlut.utexas.edu [129.116.176.42]) by mail-firewall.arlut.utexas.edu (8.7.5/8.7.3) with SMTP id OAA25740; Mon, 18 Nov 1996 14:59:54 -0600 (CST) Received: from localhost by mamba.arlut.utexas.edu (SMI-8.6/SMI-SVR4) id OAA26627; Mon, 18 Nov 1996 14:59:52 -0600 Date: Mon, 18 Nov 1996 14:59:52 -0600 (CST) From: "Lee Crites (arl)" X-Sender: crites@mamba To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org cc: adonai Subject: FreeBSD Handbook in postscript format??? If you have a computer you can install from / build a boot floppy on, use the 'Upgrade' feature to bring yourself up to 2.1.6. Just install the same distributions as before, and don't forget to add src/ssys. Hope this helps. You do this yourself by addressing mail to majordomo@freebsd.org. The messages you give are one line commands, and majordomo ignores the subject lines. The command to subscribe to a list is: subscribe You can let the part default to your email return address. There are many freebsd lists, and you can get the full list of lists administered by the majordomo at freebsd.org by sending the command "lists". Why don't you send the command "help" to majordomo and get help message, to find out what else you can do? It's a good writeup. ===== Sorry for the spam, folks, but this is the (3rd? 4th?) mail message today needing majordomo help, I was getting bored of that, maybe this will help. > > thanks. > ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Chuck Robey | Interests include any kind of voice or data chuckr@eng.umd.edu | communications topic, C programming, and Unix. 9120 Edmonston Ct #302 | Greenbelt, MD 20770 | I run Journey2 and picnic, both FreeBSD (301) 220-2114 | version 3.0 current -- and great FUN! ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- From owner-freebsd-doc Thu Nov 21 14:38:47 1996 Return-Path: owner-doc Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) id OAA22292 for doc-outgoing; Thu, 21 Nov 1996 14:38:47 -0800 (PST) Received: from irz301.inf.tu-dresden.de (irz301.inf.tu-dresden.de [141.76.1.11]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) with SMTP id OAA22251; Thu, 21 Nov 1996 14:38:36 -0800 (PST) Received: from sax.sax.de (sax.sax.de [193.175.26.33]) by irz301.inf.tu-dresden.de (8.6.12/8.6.12-s1) with ESMTP id XAA22805; Thu, 21 Nov 1996 23:38:33 +0100 Received: (from uucp@localhost) by sax.sax.de (8.6.12/8.6.12-s1) with UUCP id XAA10633; Thu, 21 Nov 1996 23:38:32 +0100 Received: (from j@localhost) by uriah.heep.sax.de (8.8.2/8.6.9) id WAA22520; Thu, 21 Nov 1996 22:03:19 +0100 (MET) From: J Wunsch Message-Id: <199611212103.WAA22520@uriah.heep.sax.de> Subject: Re: my world build stucks - vi.ref To: freebsd-current@FreeBSD.org (FreeBSD-current users) Date: Thu, 21 Nov 1996 22:03:18 +0100 (MET) Cc: kuku@gilberto.physik.rwth-aachen.de (Christoph Kukulies), doc@FreeBSD.org Reply-To: joerg_wunsch@uriah.heep.sax.de (Joerg Wunsch) In-Reply-To: <199611211721.SAA05914@gilberto.physik.rwth-aachen.de> from Christoph Kukulies at "Nov 21, 96 06:21:56 pm" X-Phone: +49-351-2012 669 X-PGP-Fingerprint: DC 47 E6 E4 FF A6 E9 8F 93 21 E0 7D F9 12 D6 4E X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL17 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-doc@FreeBSD.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk As Christoph Kukulies wrote: > ontrib/nvi/docs/USD.doc/vi.ref/vi.ref | groff -Tlp -t -s -me -o1- > /dev/ > null > groff: can't find `DESC' file > groff:fatal error: invalid device `lp' > *** Error code 3 Welcome to the club. undef PRINTER. Do it *NOW*! *grin* Yes, please. Watch out though, some Makefiles in the doc tree fiddle directly with the PRINTER variable so just changing it in bsd.doc.mk may break some things. I looked at changing it once, but never got around to it. I might also suggest FORMATS rather than the singular form. The way bsd.sgml.mk works is that all specified formats (eg FORMATS="html ps") get built and/or installed in one pass. Since you can get ascii, latin1, postscript, and others out of groff, it may be applicable for other docs as well. At one point in history, Makefile at the top of the doc tree made two passes over the subdirectories, once with PRINTER=ascii and once with PRINTER=ps. Needless to say, this wasn't very flexible, but removing the explicit setting of PRINTER (which overrides the environment variable) has caused some grief. -john == jfieber@indiana.edu =========================================== == http://fallout.campusview.indiana.edu/~jfieber ================ From owner-freebsd-doc Thu Nov 21 23:34:11 1996 Return-Path: owner-doc Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) id XAA01022 for doc-outgoing; Thu, 21 Nov 1996 23:34:11 -0800 (PST) Received: from critter.tfs.com ([140.145.230.177]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) with ESMTP id XAA00981; Thu, 21 Nov 1996 23:34:00 -0800 (PST) Received: from critter.tfs.com (localhost.dk.tfs.com [127.0.0.1]) by critter.tfs.com (8.8.2/8.8.2) with ESMTP id IAA08356; Fri, 22 Nov 1996 08:34:19 +0100 (MET) To: Nate Williams cc: joerg_wunsch@uriah.heep.sax.de (Joerg Wunsch), freebsd-current@FreeBSD.org (FreeBSD-current users), kuku@gilberto.physik.rwth-aachen.de (Christoph Kukulies), doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: my world build stucks - vi.ref In-reply-to: Your message of "Thu, 21 Nov 1996 15:58:28 MST." <199611212258.PAA12510@rocky.mt.sri.com> Date: Fri, 22 Nov 1996 08:34:18 +0100 Message-ID: <8354.848648058@critter.tfs.com> From: Poul-Henning Kamp Sender: owner-doc@FreeBSD.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk In message <199611212258.PAA12510@rocky.mt.sri.com>, Nate Williams writes: >> >> Welcome to the club. undef PRINTER. >> >> If nobody objects (and suggests something better), and it bites me >> again, i'll rename the usage of $(PRINTER) to $(FORMAT) in bsd.doc.mk. > >Please!
