At Ollivier's suggestion, I wanted to get FreeBSD-current/src/gnu/usr.bin/cvs/contrib/* No problem I think -- just ftp it from wcarchive. But it was refusing incoming connections (421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection) (seems to be doing this a lot lately). So I figure I'll just get it from a mirror site. Using ncftp ftpX.freebsd.org:/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-current/src/gnu/usr.bin/cvs, where X={1,2,3,4,5,6} (the USA mirrors) this is what I found: ftp2 (phoenix) -- doesn't allow get foo.tar.gz AND has all empty directories ftp3 (neosoft) -- has all empty directories ftp4 (kryten.atinc.com) -- no such file ftp5 (uncc) -- no such file ftp6 (vt.edu) -- perfect!!! This is/was caused by a failing disk causing processes to deadlock until enough of them pile up that the system runs out of swap space. I have a mirror at ftp.io.org:/pub/mirrors/freebsd, if anyone wants to use it. I don't make any guarantees on its completeness or timeliness, but it works well enough for me to use whenever an install is needed. Brian, i use this archive at IO almost exclusively as a mirror except for {sup,www}.freebsd.org, and i haven't had a prob yet. If you want me too, i may be willing to keep it up-to-date as i do with the linux site... and given my preference, perhaps better. :) I still think ftp.io.org should become ftp.ca.freebsd.org *poke* *poke* .... you've got the bandwith, you already have the space allocated, it would be another conntribution to the internet community to add to IO's long history, and, and, and... i know i've said this before; shut me up if you get sick of hearing it. But anyway, YES, ftp.io.org is a great alternative ftp site for freebsd. And, slackware, too. *grin* -Mit Will Mitayai Keeso Rowe The DreamLabs Network http://www.dreaming.org (905)725-9139
