For those of you in the market for a Gravis Ultrasound (which I was until five minutes ago :-) ), here are the goodies you should know about. 1) All the GUSes made nowadays are Plug & Pray. 2) There are two versions: The PnP and the PnP Pro. The Pro buys you 512k of RAM onboard. ** Both work equally well with FreeBSD. ** (well, I'll test that when it gets here) The part numbers for these are: PnP 3200-1 PnP Pro 3300-1 3) The PnP runs between $150-180 US, depending on where you get it. 4) You can order it from these two places. There may be more. Directly from Gravis: 1-800-257-0061 $179.99 Insight Direct : 1-800-491-5555 $149.99 Product code: MMGVSWAVE Shipping ran $6.50 for me. Gravis has the PnP Pro for $229.95. 5) On last check, Gravis has plenty of PnPs and Insight is out according to their web page. Don't know about stock on the Pro. 6) You'll need to upgrade your audio drivers. From what it sounds it's untar-and-recompile the snd*.tar.gz archive from rah.star-gate.com to install the new support. (?) Hope this helps. I think we really need a tutorial on the GUS and FreeBSD, which I just might do. :-) Doug White | University of Oregon Internet: dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu | Residence Networking Assistant http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~dwhite | Computer Science Major PS: In case you're wondering, when I'm ready to buy, I'm ready to _BUY_, so you'd better have it or I'll pay more to get it sooner. Briefly, tcl was compiled to support loadable modules which means that you need dl??? functions. These functions are loaded at link time and are not part of any library. So try to compile vic as a shareable module and you will not get the undefined functions. The compile time option which tells gcc to build a static binary is "-static".
