I guess so. The port I did of 3.93 has been sitting in the incoming dir of wcarchive for a month or so. That I have noticed: - UI changes. (consistancy related things) - Extended header support - Pilot, a much nicer file browser, that is a standlaone program like pico. I integrated some PGP script files that Andreas emailed me and I made the changes to compile libpico and libc-client as shared libraries. I've been using it here with no problems. Well, I don't know about running the linux binaries under NetBSD, since you can't get precompiled binaries anyway, it would probably be easier to port Khoros to NetBSD, than to compile linux binaries and fight with the NetBSD linux emulator. I doubt a port to NetBSD will be very difficult, since khoros has already been ported to FreeBSD. I installed the latest netscape3 port (3.0b4), then the jdk-1.0.1 port, and then the javac_netscape port, but when I try to compile something with the javac script I always get a segmentation fault! I got the same results with the previous netscape3 port (3.0b3). Applets run fine inside Netscape, but when Netscape is invoked with the "-java" option, it always seg faults (except when I follow the "-java" with "-help"). I've tried to set the CLASSPATH environment variable to about every value I can think of. The "mkfontdir" fix for XFree86 got applets working inside Netscape but it doesn't seem to help in this case. Here's basically what I get: > javac HelloWorld.java May 23 19:39:35 iago /kernel: pid 27262 (netscape.bin), uid 1001: exited on signal 11 Segmentation fault > The same exact thing happens if I run Netscape directly with "/usr/local/lib/netscape/netscape.bin -java". Of course, if CLASSPATH doesn't point to either moz3_0.zip or classes.zip then I get the following message (as expected): Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread I've tried setting CLASSPATH to all imaginable combinations of "moz3_0.zip", "classes.zip", "src.zip", and "." -- I've seen all sorts of javac scripts written by different people -- all of them seem to set CLASSPATH to include at least "classes.zip". I've also tried setting CLASSPATH to include the directories containing the .zip files, but nothing worked. I'm running the March 23, 1996 snapshot of FreeBSD 2.2. Has anyone run into this problem by any chance? Any ideas about what I can do to fix it? Should this kind of question also be posted to freebsd-hackers? Oh, I also tried using the classes.zip file from the new JDK 1.0.2. Same result though. I have no idea what the problem is. I think the past two netscape3 betas were broken. Last it worked for me was 3.0b2, and I think Sujal can verify same. I think we need to whine a lot with bug submissions and hope it's fixed for 3.0b5. :-) jordan From owner-freebsd-ports Fri May 24 06:29:32 1996 Return-Path: owner-ports Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id GAA02440 for ports-outgoing; Fri, 24 May 1996 06:29:32 -0700 (PDT) Received: from unb15.campus.unal.edu.co ([200.21.26.240]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with SMTP id GAA02410 for ; Fri, 24 May 1996 06:29:21 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from pedro@localhost) by unb15.campus.unal.edu.co (8.6.12/8.6.12) id IAA02476; Fri, 24 May 1996 08:29:52 -0500 Date: Fri, 24 May 1996 08:29:51 -0500 (EST) From: "Pedro Giffuni S." Does it require ISO in the kernel ? You can get ISODE 8.0 from ftp://ftp.uu.net/networking/osi/isode/ (W. Richard Stevens mentions this in Appendix F (Source Code Availability) of his book _TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1_ since he uses the snmpi program in the chapter about SNMP -- snmpi is part of the ISODE 8.0 distribution) I downloaded it yesterday, but I haven't tried compiling it yet. ISODE implements 6 layers of the OSI model. A particular App service, FTAM (File Transfer Access Management) is also available publicly. I haven't tried to compile it either (archie gives a big list of sites), but the documentation says it runs under all BSD's, over X25 or TCPIP. I am very interested in hearing from any experiences with it! regards, Pedro. Probably some of you would like to check it out. regards, Pedro. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 24 May 96 16:32:01 -0700 From: mcjones@pa.dec.com Subject: Virtual Paper sources now available We're now able to distribute the Virtual Paper in source (Modula-3) form. I've revised the Virtual Paper web pages (http://www.research.digital.com/SRC/virtualpaper/) to make the sources for the Virtual Paper software (Lectern, BuildLectern, EditLectern, and LecternToHTML) available under the (quite liberal) terms of the SRC Modula-3 license (see http://www.research.digital.com:80/SRC/m3sources/html/COPYRIGHT.html). The sources will be packaged as part of the next SRC Modula-3 release (probably in a few months), but they are available now from the Software section of the Virtual Paper web pages cited above. I'd appreciate it if a few of you could try building and testing the sources. It's likely there are a few last site-dependencies in the code or building procedures. If people are willing to build and test the programs for various platforms, we'd be happy to add the executables to our Software web page. Let me or Andrew Birrell know of any problems. Thanks very much.
