In freefall I found out that this tool is part of a port called st-1.0.10. But this port exists only locally on freefall ! It's not part of our ports collection. It would be very nice if the author of this st port could commit the port officially to the ports collection... Ok, for now got a copy from freefall .... I tried to install from cd-rom without success. I got an error stating a file could not be found (XF86-CX.TGZ ??). I then attempted to install from a DOS partition. This seemed to work ok, until I got to the section about the boot manager. Looks like even though I selected Leave boot area alone, The install overwrote my Windows 95 boot stuff. I am able to "mount" my C drive, it looks like all windows directories and files are there and intact. My environment is like this: A 3.1 GB WD EIDE drive with a C partition (2GB) and a D partition (1GB). During the install, I deleted the D partition, and created a freebsd partition in its place. Could you give me some guidance as to how to get my Windows boot MGR back without having to re-install all of windows 95 and Apps ??? Did you ever think it might be better to ask something nicely, than to ask it sarcastically. You obviously didn't even try to read the statements about the handbook or you would have already answered your question filled with sarcasm. You must have lots of time on your hands to waste to be so incredibly arrogant. Mr. Kidz was unaware of the meaning of .latin1, and I think a reply simply reminding him to read README files would have been more useful. I don't think it hurts to give him the benefit of the doubt as far as wether or not he was unduly criticizing a volunteer FreeBSD project. I'm certainly open to other opinions, and I wouldn't want to deny someone who has spent years working on a project such as FreeBSD the leisure of verbally assaulting someone, but I think that otherwise it is (generally) best to treat all other comments such as Mr. Kidz's with respect (due or not). -- tIM...HOEk Who's been messing with my anti-paranoi shot?! If I'm wrong, please let me know where I should send it. After spending hours and hours sweating blood trying to get my dialup modems to work, I finally got it! I got pointers from several people here and there, from a few web pages and faq's, and from phone calls to hardware vendors. But nowhere could I find the complete answer. What was the question? How do you make dialup modems work? I would have thought this a pretty simple question which would be found in one of several faqs. Since nobody has put something like this into the handbook, I thought I'd toss something together. I'm sure it will have to be prettied up before it is acceptable as real documentation, but this is the raw information to start with. Anyway, here's what I had to do to make my dialup modems work. I am using a digiboard, so keep that in mind. However, one of the pointers I got which was most helpful came from someone using a boca 16 port board, so I assume the concepts are generic enough to be helpful no matter what kind of board you are using. * kernel configuration and MAKEDEV are assumed to have already been done. * change the /etc/rc.serial file to call modem() for each port you will be using. Here's my modem() and call: # =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= modem() { # Modem that supports CTS and perhaps RTS handshaking. ci=$1; shift # call-in device identifier co=$1; shift # call-out device identifier for i in $* do # may depend on modem comcontrol /dev/tty$ci$i dtrwait 100 drainwait 180 # Lock crtscts on. # Speed reasonable for V42bis. stty , is this already in some very nice format in the handbook and I was just too brain-dead to find it? Any hints or ideas are welcome. That way they get set apropriately for the program that's talking to the modem. I needed &C1. Some need &C3. Some use S-registers (S53=3 in Telebit Trailblazers). It's not standardized in any way shape or form. The rest of the options are the same way... the best place to get help with modem setup is the Hylafax modem list. Yeh, I know, *sigh*.
