You use module for apache created by InterSoft s.r.o ...and I think it's a mystake. Internet Servis, a.s. and Internet CZ (EUnet Czechia) use another module for apache, mod_charset. It was developped by Russian Apache group and with our patches it should be used for all czech codepages. We are just installing this module for Apache 1.2.4 on our web servers and we want to allow other users to use it on their servers. It should be also included in czech distribution of FreeBSD and Linux. If you'll be interesting in our version of charset module, drop me a line to tomas@eunet.cz or kratz@internet.cz and I belive we will find a solution. And you can have a look at http://infos.eunet.cz where is an old version (Apache 1.1.3+CZ) which does not work with Netscape 4 "feature" in Accept Charset. New version is set on our new WWW server infor.eunet.cz, but our clients still did not create new servers there. I'll reinstall Apache 1.2.4+CZ to infox & infos .eunet.cz next week and than I can prepare public distribution pack for you and other people. This version works good also with Netscape 4 when you do not use tables for iso-8859-1 encoding and Russian apache group is working on patch which will allow to override Accept Charset settings by another selection (apache sends always iso-5599-1,*,...). Note: iso-8859-1 codepage is not Eastern European so there's no need of use special tables for it. 7-bit ascii is enough. Codepage selection can be done by path prefix (ln -s ./ ascii in htdocs directory and http://server/ascii/...), by Accept Charset headders, differend ports, ... If it is the older card with jumpers on it, you just have to set them correctly. (port 0x300, usually, and irq from 5,9,10,11,12 - one which is not used on your system (check your PCI BIOS settings if you have PCI - remove the IRQ used from those available). If it is newer software configurable model, you _can_ run this program once to reconfigure the card to settings you like to use; very frequently the default is port 0x300 and irq 5 or 9. If it is ISA plug-and-pray card, it still can have compatibility mode... > My card did not come with aprogram for BSD. Is there such a > program out there? Is there a way to do it using only the BSD? try -c on boot prompt, and then set irq and port for ed0 device. (from visual mode, or from command-line mode). Then quit and see boot messages (use dmesg or scroll lock if you can't read them fast). you can wish to boot single-user (boot -cs) to make your probes faster; from there, type ifconfig -a to see if your ed0 device is there. The port 0x300 is likely to be the one used; otherwise, try 0x280. The card would be detected even if irq is wrong. If your card is detected, try ifconfig it to correct address and netmask and then ping your network broadcast address (or any other host on LAN). If this works, you are done; otherwise, if you see `ed0: timed out' or something like that, it means that you have wrong irq. Try other irq from the list above. Once you find the correct setting, boot multi-user so it is saved into your on-disk kernel image (using dset from /etc/rc script; newer FreeBSDs can use /boot.* files for that). Or you can compile your new kernel with new setting. Do not forget to edit /etc/sysconfig or /etc/rc.conf to set your IP address and default gateway. I followed from instructions from the DSSSL mailing list archives (URL: http://www.sil.org/sgml/jadeTexHints.html) which failed. The instructions were 1. get jadetex macros 2. tex jadetex.ins %writes jadetex.ltx) 3. tex -ini \&latex jadetex.ltx '\dump' 4. tex \&jadetex foo.tex % where jade wrote foo.tex 5. dvips foo -o foo.ps Step 3 fails because (according to Sebastian Rahtz) > your Web2c TeX is not the most recent. where i say `tex -ini' you > should say `initex' So replacing step 3 with 3. initex \&latex jadetex.ltx '\dump' works (modulo some problems with missing fonts). Step 4 now fails with the message % tex \&jadetex filename.tex This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (C version 6.1) (filename.tex LaTeX2e <1996/12/01> patch level 1 Babel and hyphenation patterns for american, german, loaded. !
