Please feel to correct my impression if I'm wrong. You might look at our Host ATM Research Platform (HARP) software at http://www.msci.magic.net/harp. This software is running in production in a number of locations, including someone who is using it in a FreeBSD router to connect to MAE-East. We are also using it to provide ATMARP service for the MAGIC testbed (http://www.msci.magic.net/engineering/arpserver.html). By the way, if you use the Efficient card with HARP, you should probably get a couple of bug fixes from us, (that haven't made it to the release files yet). Let us know if you have any questions. -tjs To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-atm" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-atm Thu Mar 26 07:59:42 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id HAA02589 for freebsd-atm-outgoing; Thu, 26 Mar 1998 07:59:42 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from plains.NoDak.edu (tinguely@plains.NoDak.edu [134.129.111.64]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id HAA02516 for ; Thu, 26 Mar 1998 07:59:32 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from tinguely@plains.NoDak.edu) Received: (from tinguely@localhost) by plains.NoDak.edu (8.8.8/8.8.8) id JAA07813; Thu, 26 Mar 1998 09:59:32 -0600 (CST) Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 09:59:32 -0600 (CST) From: Mark Tinguely Message-Id: <199803261559.JAA07813@plains.NoDak.edu> To: freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG, reddawg@shellz.malicia.com Subject: Re: OC3 Sender: owner-freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org > How would i go about making a freebsd box into an oc3 router that would > take place of a cisco? what are you running on top of the OC3? Please feel to correct my impression if I'm wrong. I have a prodution ATM driver of Zeitnet NIC for FreeBSD and BSD/OS all releases. Since Cabletron bought Zeitnet, it stopped shipping Zeitnet NIC. So, I have suspend the public release for this driver. Cabletron is going to used FORE NIC, so I will support FORE card in next quarter, as well as Efficient thereafter. The currect performance is 130Mbps under BSD/OS 3.1 and 76Mbps under FreeBSD due to the bug of scaled window in FreeBSD. There is no interoperability issue by using different ATM equipment, say switch, NIC, etc. I have Interphase, Sun, Zeitnet, FORE, Efficient, SGI, otoo ATM NIC all connected to FORE, NewBridge and BayNET switchs running for many years. I did not see any critical problem. The issue may be some are easy to use, v.s. others are harder. -Jin To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-atm" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-atm Fri Mar 27 07:28:36 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id HAA13932 for freebsd-atm-outgoing; Fri, 27 Mar 1998 07:28:36 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from enterprise.cs.unm.edu (enterprise-atm.cs.unm.edu [198.83.90.20]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id HAA13925 for ; Fri, 27 Mar 1998 07:28:34 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from cfaehl@cs.unm.edu) Received: from avarice.cs.unm.edu [198.59.151.252] by enterprise.cs.unm.edu with esmtp (Exim 1.80 #2) id 0yIb3U-0004Im-00; Fri, 27 Mar 1998 08:28:28 -0700 X-Mailer: exmh version 2.0zeta 7/24/97 To: Jin Guojun (ITG staff) Cc: freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Any work being done on ATM NIC drivers? I suspected I was wrong, but we've had issues attaching certain equipment to our ATM boxes (specifically, our NetAPP fore card only supported SPANS, so we had to have some SPANS compatible equipment attached to it). If you have a FORE switch, it should support SPANS. Also, the UNI/ILMI/VLAN is supported by the driver, not the card. So, you may ask your vendor to upgrade the driver. I also would like to discuss if the SPANS needs to be supported in the future. Since many vendors are not support or continue to support SPANS, I intend to take SPANS out of the next release for Zeitnet/FORE/Efficient. -Jin To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-atm" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-atm Sat Mar 28 05:12:26 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id FAA15322 for freebsd-atm-outgoing; Sat, 28 Mar 1998 05:12:26 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from shellz.Malicia.com (reddawg@shellz.malicia.com [209.54.66.70]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id FAA15316 for ; Sat, 28 Mar 1998 05:12:23 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from reddawg@shellz.malicia.com) Received: from localhost (reddawg@localhost) by shellz.Malicia.com (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id IAA22254; Sat, 28 Mar 1998 08:10:32 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from reddawg@shellz.malicia.com) Date: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 08:10:31 -0500 (EST) From: Christopher X-Sender: reddawg@shellz To: Mark Tinguely cc: freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: OC3 In-Reply-To: Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Mark, I emailed the place thats going to be at the other end of the atm and they told me they will be doing ip over atm.
